Check-in slows you down. Need to go earlier, get out later And
baggage gets lost / held/stolen etc. Or charged for. Only do it
post-shopping on way back. With your carry-on bag. Never on way
out. You really need much less than you think.

x 16 x 8) Smaller than allowed by regular carrier. Get used to this

Cheat by getting an expandable one. 1 pair of denim jeans = 0.5 kg!
