1. GENERAL NOTES

WORK INDICATED ON THESE DRAWINGS IS DIAGRAMMATIC AND SHOULD NOT BE SCALED TO ESTABLISH LOCATION OF WORK.THE DRAWINGS ARE INTENDED TO CONVEY THE SCOPE OF WORK AND INDICATE GENERAL ARRANGEMENTS OF ENGINEEREDSYSTEMS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL EXISTING CONDITIONS IN THE FIELD AND MAKE ADJUSTMENTS AS NECESSARYTO COMPLETE THE WORK.

1.5. CLEAN UP ALL WASTE AND DEBRIS AT THE END OF EACH WORKING DAY AND AS REQUIRED TO KEEP ALL BUILDING AREASCLEAN, CLEAR AND UNOBSTRUCTED. AT THE COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE ALL TOOLS,APPLIANCES, SURPLUS MATERIAL AND SCRAP FROM THE JOB SITE. SEE ARCH. DWGS. FOR WASTE DISPOSAL REQUIREMENTS.

1.6. AT THE COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CLEAN THE ENTIRE JOB SITE, INCLUDING ALL NEW AND EXISTINGSURFACES OF BUILDING, EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS, LEAVING THE AREA THOROUGHLY CLEAN, CLEAR AND READY FOR OCCUPANCY.

1.7. ALL SPECIFIED EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURER'SRECOMMENDATIONS.

1.8. IN ADHERENCE WITH THE INTENT OF THESE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, PROVIDE FINISHED WORK, TESTED AND READY FOROPERATION. WHEREVER THE WORD "PROVIDE" IS USED, IT SHALL MEAN "FURNISHED, INSTALL, BALANCE, ADJUST AND TEST,COMPLETE AND READY FOR USE".

1.9. CONTRACTOR SHALL VISIT SITE TO VERIFY EXISTING CONDITIONS AND COORDINATE WITH NEW PIPING, DUCTWORK, LIGHTINGAND PROPOSED CEILING HEIGHTS.

2. COORDINATION AND SCHEDULING

2.1. COMPLETELY COORDINATE AND SCHEDULE WORK OF ALL TRADES. CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPENSATE FOR EXISTINGCONDITIONS SO THAT CONFLICTS IN SCHEDULING AND LOCATION WILL NOT OCCUR.

2.2. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPLETE COORDINATION BETWEEN ALL SUB-CONTRACTORS, SUPPLIERS, GOVERNMENTAUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION, BUILDING PERSONNEL, CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS, ARCHITECT/ENGINEER ANDBUILDING OWNER.

2.3. CONTRACTOR SHALL REVIEW AND COORDINATE THE INSTALLATION OF NEW SYSTEM(S) AND EQUIPMENT. NO WORK SHALL BEPERFORMED PRIOR TO THE CONTRACTOR OBTAINING EXACT FIELD DIMENSIONS OF EXISTING BUILDINGS, EXISTING CEILINGS,STRUCTURAL OBSTRUCTIONS, EXISTING BUILDING SYSTEMS TO REMAIN, EXISTING FURNITURE TO REMAIN, ETC., WHICH, MAYAFFECT INSTALLATION OF NEW EQUIPMENT OR SYSTEMS.

2.4. CONTRACTOR'S ATTENTION IS DIRECTED TO THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPER SCHEDULING AND PHASING OF WORK SO AS TOCAUSE MINIMUM DISTURBANCE TO ACTIVITIES IN OTHER AREAS OF THE BUILDING, WHICH WILL REMAIN OCCUPIEDTHROUGHOUT THE DURATION OF THE CONTRACT. CONTRACTOR'S WORK SCHEDULE SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO AND APPROVEDBY THE OWNER.

2.5. NOTIFY THE OWNER, IN WRITING, AT LEAST SEVEN DAYS IN ADVANCE OF ANY REQUIRED SHUTDOWN OF ANY UTILITY. OBTAINOWNER'S WRITTEN APPROVAL PRIOR TO SHUTDOWN.

2.6. CONTRACTOR SHALL THOROUGHLY EXAMINE PREMISES AND OBSERVE ALL CONDITIONS AND CIRCUMSTANCES UNDER WHICHTHE WORK SHALL BE PERFORMED. NO ALLOWANCES WILL BE MADE FOR ERRORS OR NEGLIGENCE IN THIS RESPECT.

2.7. CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE BUILDING LANDLORD AND PROPERTY MANAGER.

3. CODE, PERMITS AND INSPECTIONS

3.1. ALL WORK SHALL BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH LATEST APPLICABLE CODES, REGULATIONS AND STANDARDS. CONTRACTORSHALL OBTAIN AND PAY FOR ALL NECESSARY PERMITS AND SHALL ARRANGE FOR ALL INSPECTIONS BY AUTHORITIES HAVINGJURISDICTION.

3.2. APPROVAL AND SIGN-OFF BY ALL AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION IS REQUIRED AT THE COMPLETION OF PROJECT. SECUREPERMIT AND INSPECTION CERTIFICATES AND TRANSMIT SAME TO THE OWNER AT THE COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT.

3.3. PERFORM ALL WORK IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING CODES AND STANDARDS:3.3.A. DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA MECHANICAL CODE: 20123.3.B. DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE: 2012

3.4. CODES AND STANDARDS LISTED ARE MINIMUM STANDARDS. WHERE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS CALL FOR A HIGHER STANDARD,CONTRACT DOCUMENTS WILL TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER ALL REFERENCED CODES AND STANDARDS. IF CONTRACTDOCUMENTS CONFLICT WITH CODES OR STANDARDS, CONTRACTOR SHALL INFORM ARCHITECT/ENGINEER, IN WRITING, PRIORTO QUOTE.

3.5. CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH ALL OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (OSHA) AND ENVIRONMENTALPROTECTION AGENCY (EPA) REQUIREMENTS.

3.6. CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH RULES AND REGULATIONS OF ALL AFFECTED UTILITY COMPANIES.

3.7. CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH RULES AND REGULATIONS OF ALL AFFECTED UTILITY COMPANIES.

4. WARRANTY:

4.1. ALL WORK SHALL BE FREE OF DEFECTS IN WORKMANSHIP AND MATERIALS FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR FROM DATE OF FINALACCEPTANCE. ALL DEFECTS THAT DEVELOP OR ARE DISCOVERED WITHIN THIS PERIOD WILL BE REPAIRED BY THECONTRACTOR, TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER AND AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER.

5. SUBMITTALS

5.1. SUBMIT FOUR SETS OF SHOP DRAWINGS, TO ARCHITECT/ENGINEER AND OBTAIN APPROVAL, PRIOR TO ORDERING OFEQUIPMENT OR MATERIAL AND BEFORE FABRICATION OF COMPONENTS. SUBMITTALS TO BE REVIEWED IN (5) BUSINESS DAYS.SUBMIT SHOP DRAWINGS FOR THE FOLLOWING:

5.1.A. DUCT, DUCT INSULATION AND ASSOCIATED ACCESSORIES

5.1.B. AIR DISTRIBUTION DEVICE.

6. RECORD (AS BUILT) DRAWINGS

6.1. REPRODUCIBLE RECORD DRAWINGS SHALL BE SUPPLIED BY CONTRACTOR, UPON WHICH CORRECTIONS SHALL BE MADE, TOPROVIDE AN ACCURATE AND COMPLETE RECORD OF THE WORK, AS INSTALLED. ALL DUCTWORK, EQUIPMENT, PIPING AND AIRDISTRIBUTION DEVICES SHALL BE SHOWN AND DIMENSIONED ON THE RECORD DRAWINGS. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDELASTEST AUTOCAD VERSION AS-BUILT DRAWINGS AT THE COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT.

6.2. FULL SIZE AS-BUILT DRAWINGS SHALL BE SUPPLIED AT THE COMPLETION OF THE JOB.

6.3. PROVIDE A COMPLETE SET OF DRAWINGS ON A CD WHEN THE JOB IS COMPLETE.

7. MECHANICAL GENERAL NOTES

7.1. ALL EQUIPMENT TO BE LOCATED IN THE CEILING PLENUM SHALL BE SUITABLE FOR INSTALLATION IN ACCORDANCE WITHAPPLICABLE CODES AND REGULATIONS.

7.2. ALL EQUIPMENT (INCLUDING DUCTWORK AND PIPING) SHALL BE SECURELY SUPPORTED FROM THE BUILDING STRUCTURE IN ANAPPROVED MANNER. EQUIPMENT SHALL NOT GENERATE NOISE GREATER THAN CATALOG RATINGS. ALL EQUIPMENT ANDAPPURTENANCES SHALL NOT TRANSMIT NOISE OR VIBRATION TO THE OCCUPIABLE SPACES.

7.3. DUCTWORK SHALL BE INSTALLED TIGHT TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE SLAB/DECK UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

7.4. PROVIDE FIRE SAFING APPROVED BY THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION, AROUND ALL PIPING AND DUCTWORKPENETRATIONS THROUGH BUILDING CONSTRUCTION TO MAINTAIN FIRE, SMOKE, AND SOUND RATINGS.

7.5. MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT, DUCTWORK, SUPPORTS, AND MATERIALS SHALL BE RELOCATED AS NECESSARY TO ACCOMMODATEINSTALLATION OF LIGHT FIXTURES AND SPRINKLER SYSTEM/PLUMBING PIPING.

7.6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH AND INSTALL ACCESS PANELS WHERE REQUIRED FOR ACCESS TO EQUIPMENT, VALVES,DAMPERS, CONTROLS, ETC. IN DUCTWORK AND/OR CONCEALED BEHIND FINISHES NOT INTENDED TO BE REMOVED;COORDINATE WITH THE ARCHITECT PRIOR TO ANY INSTALLATION.

7.7. MECHANICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL MOTOR STARTERS, DISCONNECTS ETC. AS REQUIRED BY THE MECHANICALEQUIPMENT; THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL AND PROVIDE FINAL CONNECTIONS. WHERE THE MECHANICALSYSTEMS COME WITH INTEGRAL STARTERS, DISCONNECTS, ETC., THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE FINALCONNECTIONS.

7.8. 8. TESTING AND BALANCING

8.1. PROVIDE ALL NECESSARY ACCESSORIES TO ALLOW FOR PROPER AIR AND WATER BALANCE. UPON COMPLETIONOF THE INSTALLATION, ALL AIR AND WATER SYSTEMS SHALL BE ADJUSTED AND BALANCED TO PROVIDE THE AIRAND WATER FLOW RATE INDICATED. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE VOLUME DAMPERS, SPLITTER DAMPERS AND/OR

VOLUME EXTRACTORS AS INDICATED OR REQUIRED FOR BALANCING. BALANCING WORK SHALL BE PERFORMED BY A CERTIFIEDBALANCING CONTRACTOR WHO IS A MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING OF AABC, NEBB OR SMACNA. BALANCING WORK SHALL BE INCOMPLIANCE WITH THE STANDARD PROCEDURE MANUAL PUBLISHED BY THE TESTING AND BALANCING ORGANIZATIONAFFILIATED WITH THE BALANCING CONTRACTOR. 9.3. ALL NEW DUCTWORK DIMENSIONS SHOWN ARE INSIDE CLEAR DIMENSIONS. DUCTWORK SIZES SHALL BE INCREASEDTO ACCOMMODATE 1" INTERNAL LINING WHERE INDICATED ON PLANS.

9.4. THE DRAWINGS ARE SCHEMATIC IN SCOPE AND DO NOT NECESSARILY SHOW THE OFFSETS REQUIRED TO AVOIDSUCH THINGS AS NEW PIPES, CONDUITS, STRUCTURAL MEMBERS, ETC. INTERFERENCE WITH THE HERETOFOREMENTIONED SHALL BE CORRECTED AT NO EXTRA COST TO THE OWNER.

9.5. FLEXIBLE CONNECTIONS SHALL BE PROVIDED BETWEEN THE AIR CONDITIONING UNITS AND THE DUCTS WITH WHICHTHEY ARE CONNECTED.

9.6. PROVIDE DOUBLE THICKNESS TURNING VANES IN ALL DUCTWORK ELBOWS (45° & 90°). TURNING VANES SHALL COMPLYWITH SMACNA STANDARDS, 2005 EDITION.

9.7. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, DUCTS SHALL BE SUPPORTED WITH STRAP IRON NOT LESS THAN ONE INCH (1") IN WIDTHON MAXIMUM OF FOUR FOOT (4'-0") CENTERS.

9.8. WHERE TOP OF DUCT IS MORE THAN SIXTEEN INCHES (16") FROM POINT OF SUPPORT, ANGLE IRON SUPPORTS SHALL BEUSED WITH ALL-THREAD RODS.

9.9. ANGLE IRON SUPPORTS SHALL BE AT EACH PERIMETER JOINT AND AT NOT GREATER THAN SEVEN FOOT SIX INCH(7'-6") CENTERS. DUCTS SHALL BE SUPPORTED TO PREVENT SWAYING.

9.10. SUPPORTS SHALL BE FASTENED TO THE BUILDING STRUCTURE IN AN APPROVED MANNER.

11. CONTROLS

11.1. THERMOSTAT SHALL BE INSTALLED 4'-0" ABOVE FINISHED FLOOR WHERE SHOWN ON PLANS UNLESS NOTEDOTHERWISE.

12. INSTRUCTION AND IDENTIFICATION

12.1. WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS IN A SINGLE BINDER DESCRIBING THE PROPER OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OFEQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS SHALL BE PROVIDED TO THE OWNER AT THE COMPLETION OF THE WORK. THECONTRACTOR SHALL DEMONSTRATE AND INSTRUCT THE OPERATION OF SYSTEMS TO THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE.

ALL VALVES, CONTROLS, ETC., SHALL BE PERMANENTLY IDENTIFIED AND LABELED WITH METAL TAGS OR ENGRAVEDNAMEPLATES AS APPLICABLE. COORDINATE WITH HVAC ZONE SCHEDULE.

13. GUARANTEE

13.1. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL GUARANTEE ALL MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP FOR A PERIOD OF ONE (1) YEAR FROM THEDATE OF ACCEPTANCE BY THE OWNER AND SHALL REPAIR OR REPLACE AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER ANY PARTTHEREOF WHICH MAY BECOME DEFECTIVE DURING THE PERIOD OF GUARANTEE, ORDINARY WEAR AND TEAR EXCEPTED.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR AND PAY FOR ANY DAMAGES RESULTING FROM OR CAUSED BY DEFECTS INHIS/HER WORK.

14. PIPING

11. MAKE FINAL CONNECTIONS AFTER FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT ARE SET IN PLACE. ALL REQUIRED TRIM, FAUCETS AND MINOR ITEMS NECESSARY FOR A

COMPLETE FUNCTIONING INSTALLATION, SUCH AS STRAINERS, TRAPS, TAILPIECES, ESCUTCHEONS, ETC., SHALL BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED BY THE

CONTRACTOR IN ACCORDANCE WITH EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS. ALL FAUCETS TO BE HEAVILY CHROME-PLATED..

12. TEST PIPING PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF PIPE INSTALLATION. REMAKE ANY LEAKING JOINTS AND RETEST. "STOP LEAK" ADDITIVES SHALL NOT BE PERMITTED.

13. AFTER FINAL TESTING FOR LEAKS, ALL NEW POTABLE WATER LINES SHALL BE THOROUGHLY FLUSHED BY THE PLUMBING CONTRACTOR TO REMOVE FOREIGN

MATERIAL. BEFORE PLACING THE SYSTEM IN SERVICE, CONTRACTOR SHALL ENGAGE A QUALIFIED SERVICE ORGANIZATION TO STERILIZE THE NEW WATER

LINES IN ACCORDANCE WITH APPLICABLE REGULATIONS. A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE SHALL BE PROVIDED TO THE OWNER.

ELECTRICAL GENERAL NOTES

INSTALLATION OF ALL WORK SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWINGREGULATIONS, CODES, ETC.

LOCAL CODES AND ORDINANCESTHE EDITION OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE NFPA 70 (NEC) IN EFFECT.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS SHALL BE GROUNDED PER ARTICLE 250 OF THE NATIONALELECTRICAL CODE.

CONTRACTOR SHALL INFORM THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE PRIOR TO BEGINNINGCONSTRUCTION AND PRIOR TO COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION TO ALLOW SUFFICIENTTIME FOR COORDINATION OF EXISTING BUILDING ACTIVITIES WITH THE CONSTRUCTIONWORK.

IF MATERIAL OR EQUIPMENT IS INSTALLED BEFORE IT IS APPROVED, THE CONTRACTORSHALL BE LIABLE FOR ITS REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE IF INTHE OPINION OF THE ARCHITECT OR ENGINEER, THE MATERIAL OR EQUIPMENT DOES NOTMEET THE INTENT OF THE DRAWINGS AND/OR SPECIFICATIONS.

CONTRACTOR TO COORDINATE ELECTRICAL WORK TO AVOID INTERFERENCE BETWEEN ALLTRADES.

DETERMINE INTERFERENCE BEFORE WORK IS FABRICATED OR INSTALLED. THECONTRACTOR SHALL BE THOROUGHLY FAMILIAR WITH ALL DETAILS OF WORK AND WORKINGCONDITIONS AND COORDINATE WORK DURING PRELIMINARY STAGES TO ENSURE ACTUALERECTION WILL PROCEED WITHOUT INTERFERENCE. PROVIDE MAXIMUM PRACTICAL SPACE FOR OPERATION, REPAIR, REMOVAL, ANDTESTING OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT. DEVIATIONS MAY BE MADE TO PROVIDE REQUIREDACCESSIBILITY PROVIDED THEY ARE APPROVED BY THE OWNERS OR THE ARCHITECTS.

KEEP CONDUITS, WIRE WAYS AND SIMILAR ITEMS AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO CEILING,WALLS AND COLUMNS IN ORDER TO TAKE UP MINIMUM AMOUNT OF SPACE. ALL WORK TO BEIN STALLED IN A NEAT AND WORK MAN LIKEMANNER.

THE CONTRACTOR SHALL INCLUDE IN THE WORK, WITHOUT EXTRA COST, ANY LABOR,MATERIALS, SERVICES, APPARATUS, AND DRAWINGS IN ADDITION TO CONTRACTDOCUMENTS, IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH ALL APPLICABLE LAWS, INDICATED AND/ORSPECIFIED. AFTER INSPECTING FROM THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE ALL UNUSED MATERIALS SHALL BE REMOVED FROM THE JOB SITE WITH DISPOSAL IN ACCORDANCE WITH APPLICABLE SPECIFICATIONS AND REGULATIONS.III. PROTECTION:

A. PROTECT FROM DAMAGE ALL EXISTING WORK TO REMAIN. ANY EXISTING TO REMAIN OR EXISTING TO BE RELOCATED MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DAMAGED DURING THE COURSE OF THE WORK SHALL BE REPLACED WITH MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT CONFORMING TO THESE SPECIFICATIONS AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER. CARE MUST TAKEN IN REMOVING ALL EXISTING MATERIALS.

IV. TERMINATION AND PATCHING:

A. DISCONNECT EXISTING TO BE REMOVED OR EXISTING TO BE RELOCATED CONDUIT, WIRING, CABLING, AND EQUIPMENT FROM EXISTING TO REMAIN POINT INDICATED. IF NOT INDICATED ON THE PLANS, VERIFY WITH THE DESIGN ENGINEERS OR BUILDING OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE PRIOR TO DISCONNECTION.

B. WHERE EXISTING FLOORS, WALLS AND ROOFS MUST BE CUT OR ARE DAMAGED DURING REMOVAL OR RELOCATION OF ELECTRICAL WORK, PATCH THE CUT OR DAMAGED AREAS TO MATCH ADJACENT CONSTRUCTION.

C. THE CONTINUITY OF ALL EXISTING CONDUITS AND FEEDERS SERVICING AREAS TO REMAIN SHALL BE MAINTAINED. MODIFY THE EXISTING CIRCUITS IF REQUIRED IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE EXISTING CIRCUITRY.
