IN SUPPORT of COUNCIL FilE 14-0518- Wildlife Habitat linkage Zones
Dear Chairman Huizar and Honorable Members of the PLUM Committee
As President of Laurel Canyon Association and native to Los Angeles, I write insupport of a Wildlife Habitat Linkage Zone ordinance.
Understand this is a unique city in that it has a wilderness mountain rangerunning through its center stretching from East LA to Griffith Park to the PacificOcean; our Central Park in Los Angeles.
For thousands of years wildlife have been traveling in regular migratory patternsand ranges to hunt and breed within these Santa Monica Mountains
The timing for this motion for a wildlife habitat linkage ordinance is criticalbecause an ever increasing population and building density in the hillsides arechanging entire species and endangered their viability.
A dedicated ordinance will prevent further injuries and deaths to wildlife, and willfurther protect the remaining open spaces, ecosystems and wildlife linkages that .exist.
This needs to be passed at once.
Sincerely,
Cassandra Barrere, on behalf of the Luarel Canyon Association

Dear Chairman Huizar and Honorable Members of the PLUM Committee,
I support a Wildlife Habitat Linkage Zone ordinance. Los Angeles is not a 450 sq mile homogenousURBAN development. It has a wilderness mountain range dividing the San Fernando Valley thatstretches from East LA to Griffith Park to the Pacific Ocean. It includes 5200 ft Mt Lukins in theAngeles National Forest, threatened species habitats protected by the Federal Register and aCoastal Zone protected through the California Coastal Commission.
Birds and insects fly into these area through the open air and for thousands of years wildlife havebeen traveling in regular migratory patterns and ranges to hunt and breed between the Santa Monica,Verdugo and San Gabriel Mountains, but ever increasing population and building density in thehillsides are changing entire species and endangered their viability.
River restoration and habitat islands will never be the answer to our earth bound wildlife. No regard iscurrently considered when those animals' terrestrial migrations are blocked. Entire food chainsincluding top predators such as our Griffith Park mountain lion P22, are being forced down into theurban zones to find food and are increasingly encountering humans. The timing for this motion for awildlife habitat linkage ordinance is critical.
Such an action will prevent further injuries and deaths to wildlife, and protect the remaining openspaces, ecosystems and wildlife linkages that exist. Incursions into the habitat of wildlife in the city iscounter to the intent and protections offered under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
It needs to be passed now.
Sincerely,

Dear Chairman Huizar and Honorable Members of the PLUM Committee,
I am a Citizen for Los Angeles Wildlife and I support a Wildlife Habitat Linkage Zone ordinance.
Los Angeles is a unique city in that it has a wilderness mountain range running through its centerstretching from East LA to Griffith Park to the Pacific Ocean. For thousands of years wildlifehave been traveling in regular migratory patterns and ranges to hunt and breed within thoseSanta Monica Mountains but ever increasing population and building density in the hillsides arechanging entire species and endangered their viability.
As wildlife habitats are blocked those animals that survive (such as our Griffith Park mountainlion P22) are being forced down into the urban zones to find food and are increasinglyencountering humans. The timing for this motion for a wildlife habitat linkage ordinance is critical.
Such an action will prevent further injuries and deaths to wildlife, and protect the remaining openspaces, ecosystems and wildlife linkages that exist.
