Assembling Vendome’s program is akin to planning a dinner party. Any top plan-ner – and we have published many in our 39 years – would advise a diverse guest list of new and old friends, a delicious meal served with Vendome’s wonted panache, inspiring entertainment, plus a mystery element.

Our delightful and flamboyant dinner companions would include Lisa Fine and Miguel Flores-Vianna, the author and photographer of Vendome’s beautiful Near & Far: Interiors I Love, or the exuberant Carlos Mota, author of the long-awaited compedium of colour, Beige is Not a Color.

Essential for our party is a spectacular setting: either the Albany set or the Valletta palace of Francis Sultana: Design & Interiors would be appropriate for the evening’s revels. Old friends such as Tom Scheerer have a well-deserved place at Vendome’s soirée; in the ten years since the publication of Tom Scheerer Decorates, design enthusiasts have clamoured for more of the master’s work. In partnership with photographer Francesco Lagnese once again, Tom is publish-ing More Decorating in September.

Miguel Flores-Vianna’s Haute Bohemians, now in its fifth printing, was named the design book of the year by T: The New York Times Style Magazine. Now, Miguel’s 75,000 plus Instagram followers will be thrilled by A Wandering Eye, featuring 250 of his favourite images taken with his camera phone in fourteen countries on five continents. Miguel’s travels took him repeatedly to legendary Tangier, which is the inspired subject of Nicolò Castellini Baldissera’s Inside Tangier: Houses & Gardens, with a Foreword by Hamish Bowles and an Introduction by fellow Tangerine Umberto Pasti. For the evening’s entertainment, we present a perfor-mance of Ballerina, a celebration of the enduring influence of that exquisite art on the world of high fashion.

Our dinner would not be complete without a plate of icy oysters opened by Robert Stilin, a master of idiosyncratic, tailored interiors, Champagne offered by Rush Jenkins and Klaus Baer, experts in conjuring Natural Elegance: Luxurious Mountain Living, and for dessert, Celia Forner’s delicious confection, Bedtime.

The table is set, the candles are lit, the music is cued, and you, dear readers, stand knocking at the door. Come in, a feast awaits: Vendome’s Fall 2019 pro-gram prepared for your enjoyment.

Miguel Flores-Vianna’s childhood in Argentina was marked by two constants that he believes shaped the life he chose to lead: travel and books. Perhaps because the country feels like it is located at the end of the world, most Argentines are born with a good dose of wander-lust, and Flores-Vianna had a higher dose than normal.

Books helped him discover places both literally and figuratively, creating romantic visions of lands he wanted to visit, and he has gone on to document his peripatetic life with his camera, recording places as he feels they should be rather than as they are. In this irresistible volume, Flores-Vianna shares some 250 of his favourite images taken all over Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas – captured only with his phone – in the hope that viewers, seeing the world through his eyes, will learn to love these most wondrous of places as much as he does.

Miguel Flores-Vianna has been a photographer, writer and editor for more than

twenty years. His first book, Haute Bohemians (Vendome, 2017) was selected

as the design book of the year by T Magazine. His photography is regularly

published in AD and Cabana. He lives in London.

Ballerina: Fashion’s Modern Muse is a revelatory, irresistible treat for dance aficionados and fashionistas alike. Couturiers such as Balmain, Balenciaga, Chanel, Schiaparelli, Charles James, Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent designed ballet-inspired dresses and gowns, many featur-ing the boned bodices and voluminous tulle skirts of classical tutus. American ready-to-wear designers such as Claire McCardell found inspiration in ballet leotards and other practice clothing, creating knit-ted separates, bathing suits, and wrap dresses. Written by fashion and ballet experts, the book is illustrated with archival photography by such masters as Richard Avedon, Edward Steichen, Irving Penn, Man Ray, and Cecil Beaton, along with newly commissioned photography of contemporary ballerinas wearing ballet-influenced couture.

Patricia Mears is deputy director of The Museum at FIT. Laura Jacobs is a dance

critic, fashion writer, and novelist. Jane Pritchard is curator of Dance, Theatre and

Performance at the Victoria and Albert Museum, in London. Rosemary Harden

is manager of the Fashion Museum in Bath, England. Joel Lobenthal is a dance

critic. Hamish Bowles is the international editor at large for Vogue.

In our bedrooms, we take leave of our daily woes. Far from the bus-tle of the kitchen, the sociability of the living room or the indulgence of the dining room, this part of the home is reserved for intimacy, romance, and dreaming.

Bedtime: Inspirational Beds, Bedrooms and Boudoirs is an inspir-ing, visual journey into the sleepiest, yet most salacious, room of the house. Celia Forner whisks you through the bedrooms of queens and emperors, designers and decorators, today’s most exclusive homes, and even the most evocative fictional boudoirs from stage and screen.

Designers and clients alike will find fresh inspiration in this king-size source book, which shows astonishing breadth of vision in collat-ing more beds and bedrooms than one could possibly dream of, and is an invaluable addition to any design collection.

Celia Forner, former Ford’s Supermodel of the Year, is an art collector, jewellery

designer, curator of the Portable Art exhibition at Hauser & Wirth, and CEO of

ALLEVEN, a luxury beauty brand. Married with two children, she divides her time

between London, New York, and Mallorca – much of it in bed. Gianluca Longo

is Contributing European Editor for W magazine, a British Vogue Contributing

Editor and Cabana’s Style Editor at Large.

Bland is anathema to Carlos Mota. As he travels the world – from Lisbon to Tangier, India to Santo Domingo, New York to Paris – pro-ducing feature stories and ad campaigns for countless publications and companies, he exults in every spark of originality and creativity he sees. Fortunately for us, he not only documents his sightings with his camera but also collects images by a Who's Who of interiors and architectural photographers. And in this volume, he has culled some 280 of his favourite images, all wholly different but all sharing one quality: the beauty of colour, both literally and figuratively. There are interiors, table settings, fabric swatches, tiles, spices, floral arrange-ments, sculptures, architectural ornamentation – whatever captures his discerning eye. Peppered with quotes about colour and beauty by a host of designers, Beige Is Not a Color is the antithesis of bland and as aspirational as it is inspirational.

Carlos Mota is a creative consultant with extensive experience in styling, interior

design, product design, and advertising campaigns. Formerly international style

editor for AD and editor at large for Elle Decor, he is the author of A Touch of

Style. He lives in New York.

A white-walled city perched between Morocco and Europe, Tangier was long a haven for the literary and artistic avant-garde – and black sheep – of Europe and America. Now a new generation of residents are blending colour, pattern, and taste to create an interior aesthetic all their own. Inside Tangier explores a selection of these exceptional properties and their eccentric inhabitants – from antiques dealer and collector Gordon Watson and interior designer Frank de Biasi to the late fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and antiques dealer Christopher Gibbs – providing rare insights into the sometimes bohe-mian, sometimes extravagant, but always stylish 'Tangerine' lifestyle

In Near & Far, Fine invites us into her homes in Dallas, New York, and Paris and takes us along as she visits the places and people who have been her greatest sources of inspiration. Among her favored treasures are the Mughal palaces and gardens of India, the eighteenth century home of Carl Linnaeus in Sweden, the whitewashed retreat of interior designer John Stefanidis on Patmos, and the idyllic country house and garden of London-based designer Penny Morrison. Other aesthetic sparks to Fine’s imagination include the oversize flower paintings and drawings of Scottish born artist Sarah Graham, the bohemian flair of Charlotte and Alex di Carcaci’s London home, and the extraordinary natural history collection of Jamie Creel and Marco Scarani’s New York shop, as well as their storied house in the Tangier casbah. Evocatively photographed by Miguel Flores Vianna, Near & Far not only provides a trove of design ideas but offers advice for anyone interested in giv-ing full expression to their personal style.

Mississippi-born Lisa Fine is the founder of Lisa Fine Textiles, a line of hand-

The founder of a successful children’s clothing line, author of an influ-ential parenting blog, and mother of five children, Marie-Chantal of Greece is constantly asked how she manages to do it all – raise her kids and run her business while leading an active social life. So many of these queries – about proper etiquette for children in our fast paced, technology centered world – led her to recognize the need for a mod-ern handbook on children’s manners.

Manners Begin at Breakfast addresses rules of etiquette, includ-ing basic table manners, social media, fashion dos and don’ts, and party conversation. Covering children from infants to teens, Manners Begin at Breakfast is an essential guide for all parents concerned about raising self-assured, well-adjusted children who are equipped to thrive in society and develop into confident, successful adults. Illustrated with charming, specially commissioned watercolours and written in a lively, conversational style, it is certain to become a peren-nial and parental must have resource.

Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece was born in London, one of three sisters,

and spent her early years in Hong Kong. Schooled in Switzerland, Paris, and

New York. She married Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece in 1995. One year later

she became pregnant with her first child, Maria Olympia, who was followed by

Constantine Alexios (1998), Achileas Andreas (2000), and Odysseas Kimon (2004).

In June 2008 they welcomed another new addition to their lives, a beautiful

baby boy named Aristide. Perri Klass M.D. is a leading American pediatrician

and writer, and Professor of Journalism and Pediatrics at New York University.

Her work on medical training, paediatric practice and parenting issues has been

featured in a variety of publications, including The New York Times, The New

Who, exactly, is a haute bohemian? Leave it to the discriminating eye of photographer Miguel Flores-Vianna, who enjoys an international, cult-like following. He has journeyed through four continents to cap-ture an extraordinary group of fashion designers, landscape architects, artists and art historians, potters, and interior designers, wherever they live – in country cottages, beach bungalows, canal-side lofts, and East Village apartments, as well as assorted estancias, chateaux, and palazzi. Some spaces are grand, others are modest, but all are origi-nal, stylish, charming, and above all authentic, in the sense that they reflect their owners’ cares and tastes. As the readers of his column in Architectural Digest know, Flores-Vianna is as gifted a writer as he is an observant photographer.

Here, Flores-Vianna’s work is introduced by Amy Astley, editor of Architectural Digest and a longtime friend.

Miguel Flores-Vianna has been a photographer, writer and editor for more than

twenty years. His first book, Haute Bohemians (Vendome, 2017) was selected

as the design book of the year by T Magazine. His photography is regularly

published in AD and Cabana. He lives in London. Amy Astley is the editor of

Dior and His Decorators is the first work on the two interior design-ers most closely associated with Christian Dior. Like the unabash-edly luxurious fashions of Dior’s New Look, which debuted in 1947, the interior designs of Victor Grandpierre and Georges Geffroy infused a war-weary world with a sumptuous new aesthetic – a meld-ing of the refined traditions of the past with a wholly modern sense of elegance. Author Maureen Footer recounts the lives and work of this influential trio, illustrated with a trove of evocative vintage pho-tographs. Grandpierre designed Dior’s first couture house, creating not only the elegantly restrained look of the salons but also the tem-plate for the Dior brand, including typeface, logo, and packaging. Both Grandpierre and Geffroy (who worked independently) designed the interior of Dior’s townhouse. After the couturier’s untimely death in 1957, Grandpierre and Geffroy went on to design salons for other couturiers, as well as homes for the likes of Yves Saint Laurent, Marcel Rochas, Gloria Guinness, Daisy Fellowes, and Maria Callas.

Maureen Footer is an interior designer and the author of George Stacey and the

Creation of American Chic. Hamish Bowles is the European editor at large for

American Vogue.

Throughout her long and storied life, Rachel 'Bunny' Mellon’s greatest passion was garden design. She and her husband Paul Mellon, one of the wealthiest men in America, maintained homes in New York, Cape Cod, Nantucket, Antigua, and Upperville, Virginia, and she designed the gardens at all of them. She also designed gardens for some of her dearest friends, including the Rose Garden and the East Garden at the White House, at the request of President Kennedy, and the gardens at both the Paris home and the château of couturier Hubert de Givenchy. All of these gardens are featured in The Gardens of Bunny Mellon, illustrated with Mellon’s own garden plans, sketches, and watercol-ours, as well as with archival photographs and specially commissioned photographs of Oak Spring, the Mellon estate in Upperville. Author Linda Holden’s text is based on extensive interviews with Mellon before her death in 2014.

Linda Jane Holden is a garden historian and the author of Presidents’ Gardens.

She first became aware of Mrs. Mellon’s contributions to landscape design while

working in the White House during the Reagan administration. Roger Foley is

an award-winning garden and landscape photographer. Sir Peter Crane is the

inaugural president of the Oak Spring Garden Foundation and former director of

the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

Most decorating books focus on one designer; the rest focus on one period, one trend, one room. This book, for the first time, has the big picture: ALL the names everybody must know from the entire 100-year history of interior design. Each designer is pro-filed and illustrated with three to four photographs of their best work; what we can learn from them – and how they changed decorating forever – is clearly highlighted to catch the eye. White duck, boldly coloured fabrics in solids, stripes, and jaunty prints, rattan and cane seating,, canopied beds, straw matting – these are but some of the sig-nature ingredients of an Amanda Lindroth interior. Since the Florida-born designer founded her firm in 2010, she has become the go-to designer of island dwellers from Lyford Cay to Antigua, Abaco to Belize, Harbour Island to Palm Beach, and Southampton to Great Cranberry Island in Maine. In every one of the more than 250 photographs, Abranowicz’s classical sensibility for light, form, and composi-tion mingles with his innate curiosity and sense of humour, producing stunning, unconventional por-traits of these living spaces and workplaces. Innovatively combining period and contemporary furniture and art in a sophisticated mix, the homes of Isabel López-Quesada are inspirational and unforget-table. In At Home, López-Quesada introduces her family and their traditions, and reveals her sources of inspiration – such as the work of earlier designers like Renzo Mongiardino and John Stefanidis. She relates how she transformed an abandoned wax factory in a leafy district of Madrid into her family home and atelier, and then recounts how she created a country home out of a run-down Basque farm in the hills out-side of Biarritz, France. Both the properties have been affectionately documented by Miguel Flores-Vianna.
