    the citadel of Machu Picchu. Explore the delights of Peru’s Andean mountain

    landscapes, Inca culture, and colonial heritage, passing remote villages and

    Pumamarca Hike ExcursionWe start in Ollantaytambo walkingslowly uphill to the quarry ofKachiqhata. Gigantic stones of pinkgranite were partially shaped in thequarry and then slid down the hill,before being dragged across the riverand over the fields. Once across thefield, the stones were dragged up a1,200 ft ramp to the Sun Temple site atOllantaytambo. Along the route wewill admire the magnificent landscapeof the Urubamba Valley below. We willsee many enormous unfinished stonesfrom the quarry, left behind in thefields, before returning along the trailback down to the valley. (L)

    Willoq & Patacancha ExcursionA visit to the village of Willoq, high in thePatacancha Valley, is a journey into thepast, a visit to the descendants of theIncas. According to historians, the peopleof Willoq with their traditional redponchos and shawls are the directdescendants of the last rulers of imperialCusco, and remain today one of theAndean communities least affected byWestern influence. The Willoqcommunity is also well known for itsweavers and the quality of the textiles;still a product of patience, knowledge andthe skilled weaver.   • Days 1-2 Depart Saturday on theflight to Lima arriving in the evening.The following morning you take a guidedtour of Lima, including the grand colonialsquares in the centre, the PresidentialPalace and Larco Herrera Museum. (B)

    Days 3-5 Flight to La Paz and spend theafternoon resting to acclimatise to the highaltitude. Next day take a guided tour of thecity in the afternoon exploring the maze ofbustling streets, visit the colourful witches’market and the Moon Valley.     Day 10 Early flight to La Paz and driveto the charming village of Copacabana,overlooking Lake Titicaca, framed bysnow covered peaks. We take a boat toSun Island, and walk along trails andterraces to the Ecolodge, staying overnight.Explore the trails with majestic views. (B)

    Day 11 Our day begins with a journey toPotosí. Towering over the city, Cerro Ricois an imposing mountain whose wealth ofprecious metals, have been mined in poorconditions since colonial times, leading to a“devil worhip”. Afternoon visit of the city,old Spanish Mint and return to Sucre. (B)

    Days 12-13 Transfer to Sucre airportand fly to La Paz, the world’s highestcapital city (3,636m). Stay for 2 nights. Abustling city settled in a large basin, whereadobe houses cling precariously to the sheersides. Our tour of the city follows a maze ofstreets and alleyways, leading us to thewitches’ market, where indigenous ladiessell colourful potions to cure all ills. (B)

    Day 4 Fly to Foz do Iguassu to visit thespectacularwaterfallswhich are made ofnumerous smaller falls along a span of2,470m. We visit the Brazilian side for apanoramic view, then we transfer to theArgentinian side, for a perpective fromabove and walks along the trails. Spend onenight at our hotel overlooking the falls.     Days 5-7 Fly to Buenos Aires and wevisit this city, dubbed the ‘Paris of SouthAmerica’. We pass through the colourfulquarter of La Boca, birthplace of the tango,and the main square with the PresidentialPalace, finishing at the elegant Parque deRecoleta with its smart bars and streetcafés. Time at leisure to explore or watch atango show in bohemian San Telmo. (B)
