The Indian National anthem, composed originally in Bengali by Rabindranath Tagore, was adoptedin its Hindi version by the Constituent Assembly as the National Anthem of India on 24 January

The name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sind, Gujurat and Maratha. Of the Dravid and Orissaand Bengal.
It Echoes in the hills of Vindhyas and Himalayas, mingles in the music of Yamuna andGanga and is chanted by the waves of the Indian Sea.
They pray for your blessing and sing thy praise. The salvation of all peaople is thy hand,thou dispenser of India's destiny. Victory, Victory, Victory to thee.
The Jana Gana Mana was composed by Shri Rabindranath Tagore and first sung at the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress on December 27th, 1911. It wasadopted as the National Anthem of India on 24th January, 1950 by the ConstituentAssembly. The first stanza( out of five stanzas) of the song forms the National Anthem.

THE NATIONAL FLAG OF INDIA is in tricolour of deep saffron(Kesari) at the top, white in themiddle and dark green at the bottom in equal propotions.The flag is a horizontal tricolour in

In the centre of thewhite band, there is a wheel in navy blue to indicate the Dharma Chakra, the wheel of law inthe Sarnath Lion Capital. Our national flag was hoisted on Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world, on May 29 1953,along with the Union Jack and the Nepalese National flag. In 1971, the Indian flag, went intospace on board Apollo-15. It flew into space as a medallion on the spacesuit worn byCosmonaut Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, during the Indo-Soviet joint space flight inApril 1984. On January 9 1982, the first Indian Antarctica Expedition planted the first Indianflag over Dakshin Gangotri. It was hoisted for the first time on the South Pole on January 17,1989, by Colonel J.K. Bajaj. On April 21, 1996, at 0352 hrs (IST), the first Indian and perhapsthe first in Asia, Sqdn. Ldr. Sanjay Thapar, holder of many national and international recordsin parajumping and skydiving, jumped from an altitude of 10,000 ft from an MI - 8 helicopterand hoisted the Indian tricolour on the North Pole. On Sept 28, 1985, the Tiranga set out onan around the world sailing expedition on board Trishna under Colonel T.P.S. Chowdhry andsuccessfully returned home on January 10, 1987, cruising the high seas of the world andcovering over 30,000 nautical miles in 470 days.

Carved out of a single block of polished sandstone, the capital iscrowned by the Wheel of the Law (Dharma Chakra).
In the state emblem adopted by the Government of India on 26 January 1950, only three lionsare visible, the fourth being hidden from view. The wheel appears in relief in the center of the abacuswith a bull on the right and a horse on the left and the outlines of the other wheels on extreme rightand left. The bell-shaped lotus has been omitted.
The four lions (one hidden from view) - symbolising power, courage and confidence - rest on acircular abacus. The abacus is girded by four smaller animals - guardians of the four directions: thelion of the north, the elephant of the east, the horse of the south and the bull of the west.The abacusrests on a lotus in full bloom, exemplifying the fountainhead of life and creative inspiration. The motto'Satyameva Jayate' inscribed below the emblem in Devanagari script means 'truth alone triumphs'

National Animal of India-THE TIGER.
The magnificent Tiger Panthera tigris (linnaeus), the national animal of India, is arich-colored well-striped animal with a short coat. The combination of grace, strength, power hasearned the tiger great respect and high esteem. Indian tigers are famous all over the world and oneof the main attractions for the lovers of wild life. They are the crowning glory and the light of theIndian wild life.
Tough, muscular, majestic tigers roam about the Sunderbans of Bengal "burning bright in thedarkness of the night." The natives of the forest worship the tiger as the deity that gives them honeyand wax. The Sunderbans are their main habitat for their thick forests of Sunder trees. They feed onfish, cattle and sometimes human beings. The man-eaters are the most dreaded of all wild beasts. Itis a common belief that a tiger does not harm anyone who has offered prayers to him. Tigers are fastrunners, excellent swimmers and their eyesight is strong.
To check the dwindling population of tigers in India, which came down to just 1,827 in 1972,massive conservation program was initiated in April 1973, known as the 'Project Tiger'. This projectaims to maintain a viable population of tigers in India for scientific, economic, aesthetic, cultural andecological values. Since then, the tiger population has shown a gradual increase and the census of1989 puts the tiger population of the country at 4,334. So far, 19 tiger reserves have beenestablished in the country under this project, covering over 29, 716 sq. km. forest area
National Bird of India-THE PEACOCK
Peacock is a large and majestic bird. It has got a long and beautiful tail. Both the peacock and thehen have crest. But the crest of hen is smaller in size. The main body of the cock is mottled brown incolor. Especially, the metallic green color found on the lower neck is very attractive. Thoughpeacocks are beautiful looking birds their calls are loud and coarse.
They move in-groups and they are normally spotted in the forests, villages and nearby fields.They are shy in nature. It feeds on lizards, snakes, grains and insects. The hen lays a maximum offive eggs, which are in pale cream color.
The significance of peacock is attached to cultures of India, Far East, Ancient Persia, Greek andChristian. In Hinduism, the image of the god of thunder, rains and war, Indra, was depicted in theform of a peacock. In south India, peacock is considered as a 'vahana' or vehilce of lord Muruga. Thefigure of peacock is painted in various Islamic religious buildings. In Christianity, the peacock wasalso known as the symbol of the 'Resurrection'.
In India people believe that whenever the cock spread its tails in an ornamental fashion, itindicates that rain is imminent. In a way it is partly true. At the sight of dark clouds the birdoutspreads its tail and starts dancing in rhythmic fashion. Most of the folklore including BharathaNatyam has got special dancing poses for the peacock dance.

National Flower of India- THE LOTUS
Among the various flowers of Indian sub-continent, the flower Lotus is regarded with divinity andgrace. Often, Goddesses Lakshmi and Saraswathi are associated with the flower lotus. Even LordSiva, who wanted to escape the wrath of the Lord Saneeswaran, morphed himself into the shape ofa bee and took asylum inside a lotus. Buddhists regard this flower as a sacred one.
Lotus symbolizes purity, beauty, majesty, grace, fertility, wealth, richness, knowledge andserenity. They are found in white and pink colors in general and they grow in shallow and murkywaters. Some blue colored flowers are also sighted. These flowers enjoy a warm sunlight andintolerant to cold weather. Hence they cannot be seen blossoming in the winter. The floating leavesand flowers have long stems, which contains air spaces to maintain buoyancy.
The plant is having various uniqueness attached to it. Though the large leaves of the plant arefloating on the surface of the water, even a drop of water is not accommodated on top of the leaves.Perhaps, they are teaching the human beings, to lead a life of non-attachment and avoid the worldlypleasures.
Depending upon the level of water in the tank, the stems will rise. In this fashion, it is guiding thehuman beings to rise upto the situation leading to a genuine elevation in their lives. As the worldfamous 'Thirukural' says,
signifying, in relation with the water level of a tank, the stem will rise. In the same way, dependingupon their ambitions and thoughts, human beings can elevate themselves in their life.
In Indian religious epics, references of lotus are made, in relation with eyes and feet of divinepersona. For instance "Kamala Kannan" referring Lord Krishna with the contextual meaning, aperson having eyes with the color of the pink lotus. Also, it is coupled with the feet of deities."Kamala Patham" means lotus feet implying the feet of the god. "Charan Kamala Patham" implying,submit oneself in totality, at the lotus feet of the god.

THE BANYAN TREE-Called the Indian fig tree( Ficus bengalensis) grow over a large area. The rootsthen give rise to more trunks and branches. Because of this characteristic & longevity, the Banyantree is considered immortal & sacred and is an integral part of the myths and legends in India. Eventoday, the banyan tree is the focal point of village life and the village council meetings under theshade of this huge shade-giving tree.

Our National Anthem "Jana Gana Mana" is sung throughout the country.Did youknow the following about our national anthem? I didn't. I havealways wondered who is the "adhinayak" and "bharatbhagyavidhata",whose praise we are singing. I thought it might be God!
To begin with, India's national anthem, Jana Gana Mana adhinayaka, waswritten by Rabindranath Tagore in honor of King George V and theQueen of England when they visited India in 1919. To honor their visitPundit Motilal Nehru had the five stanzas included,which are in praise ofthe King and Queen. (And most of us think it is in the praise of our greatmotherland!!!)
In the original Bengali verses only those provinces that were underBritish rule, i.e. Punjab, Sindh,Gujarat,Maratha.. etc. were mentioned.None of the princely states were recognized which are integral parts ofIndia now - Kashmir,Rajasthan,Andhra, Mysore or Kerala. Neither theIndian Ocean nor the Arabian Sea was included, since they were directlyunder Portuguese rule at that time.
The Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka implies that King George V is the lordof the masses and Bharata Bhagya Vidhata is "the bestower of goodfortune". Following is a translation of the five stanzas which glorify theKing:
1st stanza - (Indian) People wake up remembering your good name andask for your blessings and they sing your glories.
2nd stanza - around your throne people of all religions come and givetheir love and anxiously wait to hear your kind words.
3rd stanza - Praise to the King for being the charioteer, for leading theancient travellers beyond misery.
4th stanza - Drowned in the deep ignorance and suffering, povertystricken,unconscious country? Waiting for the wink of your eye and yourmother's (the Queen's) true protection.
5th stanza - in your compassionate plans, the sleeping Bharat (India)willwake up. We bow down to your feet O' Queen, and glory to Rajeshwara(the King). This whole poem does not indicate any love for theMotherland but depicts a bleak picture. When you sing Jana Gana Mana

Adhinayaka, whom are you glorifying? Certainly not the Motherland. Is itGod? The poem does not indicate that. It is time now to understand theoriginal purpose and the implication of this, rather than blindly sing as has been done the past fifty years.
Nehru chose the present national anthem as opposed to Vande Matarambecause he thought that it would be easier for the band to play. It was anabsurd reason but today for that matter bands have advanced and theycan very well play any music. So they can as well play Vande Mataram,which is a far better composition in praise of our dear Motherland -India.
Wake up, it's high time! Vande Mataram should be our National Anthem.

How well do you know about it?
Many of us always wondered who is the ” adhinayak” and “bharat bhagya vidhata”,whose praise we are singing. I thought might beMotherland India !Did you know the following about our national anthem???I didn’t.

whatever it is jana gana mana has got in to heart and soul of every indian and it makes currents pass through ones spine andemotionally influences us……..even if the literal meaning goes differently i think our act will be equal to an innocent devoteepraising the god whome he does not completely understands……eventhough he gets the complete fruit of devotion…..when vhave lots of things to b sought for developments protesting against this will only lead to unwanted situations………..

I disagree completely. We can afford to be so dispassionate because we don’t understand the meaning of the words as we singthem. Of what good is a song that we don’t even understand? Make no mistake, I sing the national anthem with pride every timeI hear it. But now that I know the real meaning of the lyrics, I wonder….Maybe, the coming generation needs to be steered in a new direction. Vande Mataram, is what a National anthem is all about.

i have a different opinion abt the issue. it is not true that tagore had in his mind, the glory of the king and the queen, and that he wrote it to praise them. ofcourse it is correct that he was asked to do so. but he was furious about the fact that the kings men presumed that he is loyal to the british dynasty. so kept in his mind, the eternal GOD, to whome he wrote the praises. and always when i sang it, i had the real GOD and not the brotsh in my mind. so i think there is nothing wrong in singing it with pride.

Bake’s ‘Twenty Six Songs of Rabindranath Tagore’ (Paris, 1935), in German, byHelmut Von Glasenapp andincluded in ‘Die National hymnen dey erde’ (Munich, 1958), in Italian by Rabiouddin Ahmed and included in ‘Centenario DiTagore’ (Rome, 1962).The original poem had five verses in praise of our geography, unity amidst religious diversity, bond between the east and thewest, benevolent Lord, and the last one is a vision of dawn — out of which the first was selected as the national anthem. That ofcourse would remove any doubt as to who it was written for, as King George or Queen Elizabeth, being human beings, couldn’tbe praised for their geography, or unity, or bonds or whatever. Human beings don’t have a geography, right?
If you go through all these links you will surely be disabused of all the follies that you might have learnt through those maligningpreposterous emails.
Those of you who have read Tagore’s poetry and lyrics on “devotion” (Gitanjali for example) will know that if there was adivine entity to whom Tagore addressed many of his heartfelt yearnings for communion, it was a “Monarch” infinitely greaterthan any mortal King Emperor could ever aspire to be.
The Lord of India’s Destiny, to whom Jana Gana Mana is officially addressed, is in Tagore’s conception the perennial BhagyaVidhata of India who has, from the very dawn of civilization, guided India through great triumphs and tragedies. The charge that Jana Gana Mana was composed for George V actually rests on false evidence given by the pro-British press. Thesong was first sung in a session of the Congress in 1911. This session had decided to felicitate George V since he had announcedthe abrogation of the partition of Bengal, thereby conceding the success of the Swadeshi agitation, the first modern anti-colonialmovement that had started in 1905. The day after the session the nationalist Indian papers normally — and accurately —reported that a Tagore composition had been sung. The Bengalee — along with other Indian newspapers as well as the report ofthe Indian National Congress - reported that it was a “patriotic song”. The following year the song was published as “Bharat —Vidatha”. A contemporary commentator in the vernacular Bharati described the song as one in “Praise of the Dispenser ofhuman Destiny, who appears in every age.” He probably came closest to capturing its spirit. This song was to later becomeknown as Jana Gana Mana.

I dont know for what reason Tagore wrote this. Neither I want to know. I know the only fact that its our national anthem andproud of the nation. Each time I hear it I feel myself close to the country and people of my country. At this stage it becomespointless to discuss origine and all this crap. Doesn’t make any difference to me. I feel the same passion even after reading allthe stuff.

I never had a thought so far about this but when i read this issue i bound myself it is a stupid decision by Nehru. It is very funnything that he choosen the this song for national anthem because it is easy to play for the band. I m not accepting this ..If there islot of mistakes in that Why is the Indian people are still accepting and singing this song. for general public it seems rediculusbut how many people in us r opposing this decision..bcz morning when u wake up ..u could think only about u and ur family..but how many people r thinking about the Nation and its glory to keep well. nobody infact i also never think….so it is a matterof wasting time to realize and boiled ur blood and get tensioned….so keep this stories away from people atleast…so that theycan live happy…

The song was written by tagore to the glory of the ONE TRUE GOD, not any george.
The congress wanted a song for the welcome of the king and this one matched pretty well so tagore let them use it.
His students knew who the song was written to but all the others didn’t. so they sang like fools to the king and the king heardthem like a fool while God laughed on his throne in heaven…

God of Destiny] of India who has from age after ageheld steadfast the reins of India’s chariot through rise and fall, through the straight path and the curved. That Lord of Destiny,that Reader of the Collective Mind of India, that Perennial Guide, could never be George V, George VI, or any other George.Even my official friend understood this about the song. After all, even if his admiration for the crown was excessive, he was notlacking in simple common sense.”
