From the Headmaster MR P VILJOEN
The term is in full swing with a number of activities and events taking place in and around the school. Along with the various soccer, softball and seven’s rugby fixtures, who also have the final round of the South African Olympiad taking place this afternoon. After the initial two rounds, only the top 100 senior and junior participants, throughout the country, are selected to participate in this last stage. Northwood is honoured to have three boys represent the school at this stage – Sachin Reddy and Mohammed Arbee in the seniors and Rai Reddy in the juniors. We are very proud of these boys and wish them well. An exciting addition to our calendar is the night market, taking place tomorrow evening from 5pm to 9pm. A number of vendors will be selling a variety of goods, food and drink, so a trip down to school on Friday evening will certainly be worthwhile. A big thank you to our marketing department for putting this event together. This week also sees an end of an era – Mr Russell Scott, a Northwood Old Boy, and our music teacher, producer, band coordinator and all around creative genius has decided that the time is right for a new challenge and hence will be leaving the school at the end of the month. Mr Scott has touched many of the boys’ lives, has produced many outstanding productions, plays and most recently the “So you think you can sing competition” and as such he will be sorely missed. We wish Mr Scott well and thank him for his tremendous contribution over the years. Mrs Bonsignore currently the senior music teacher at Northlands Girls, will be taking over the teaching of our music students. We want to thank Mrs Bonsignore for her willingness to add the teaching of our boys to her schedule, and also want to thank the management of Northlands Girls for accommodating us in this regard. We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of 2004 Northwood Old Boy Darren Morasutti who tragically passed away last week Sunday. We offer our sincere condolences to his family during this incredibly difficult time. May he rest in peace.

Thought for the Week “Life doesn’t always get better. But you do. You get stronger. You get wiser. You get softer. With tattered wings. You rise. And the world watches in wonder at the breathless beauty of a human who survives life.”

Nine pupils took up the challenge and were successful in, not only passing but also, qualifying to proceed to the second round to be held tomorrow.
The successful matrics are: CALEB CHINNU (top mark!) TAHLA PATEL SAYEN MIRZA RIYADH LAKHI AUGUSTIN LIU KESHAV PILLAY NICHOLAS DEEB SOHEEL NUNDRAJ WANDILE MKHIZE
Well done and good luck for Round 2!
Junior Achievement (JA) Late last year, Northwood, Danville and Northlands Girls joined forces to establish two teams. One of these teams ‘’O my Garden!!’’ made up succulents in a jar.
They were the winning team in KZN in 2017 and this year were selected to represent KZN in the JASA Nationals held in Johannesburg over the holidays. Their presentation had to be refined - Jaden Naidoo and Hrisham Singh played a pivotal role in this venture. Thanks to this team, KZN came third!
Well done to Miguel dos Reis, Lungelo Zulu, Ngcebo Langa and of course to Jaden Naidoo and Hrisham Singh!

From the Head of Extramurals Mr G. Le Roux [email protected]
Deputy Headmaster – Extramurals
There have been a few small changes to our soccer fixture list so please could parents view the changes under the Resources Tab on our Sport’s Website for the full fixture list. There may be one or two further changes around the St Charles fixture but for now it will remain as is. This weekend we will host internal matches at Northwood. All boys are expected to be there as they would a normal fixture. A massive congratulations to our 1st team Soccer who beat Glenwood 1st team 1-0 in a very competitive match on Wednesday at Northwood. The Glenwood side is made up almost entirely of Amazulu FC players so it was an exceptional performance and we can be extremely proud of our boys. Taine Bird, who is currently representing the South Africa Hockey team at the African Youth Games in Algeria, will play Zambia in the final today after defeating Nigeria 5-2 in the semi-final. Taine, we wish you and your team luck as you go for gold. Please note that no parents are allowed to drive into the school at the lower campus gate to collect their son’s between 07:00-16:30. Parents are to drop/collect from outside of the school gate during these times. Please could this be adhered to as we are having major congestion issues in that area. A reminder to find all extra mural details with regards to fixtures, notices, practice times and transport arrangements at www.northwoodschoolsport.com.
