April, 2011 Beth L. Mitchell, Executive Director

Easter holiday ends the month of April giving us an additional month of “high season in Sebastian”. The extra month of visitors and tourists are greatly appreciated by our businesses, and the glorious weather helps to show the Sebastian River area in its best pose. As usual, we have many activities this month, and plans for the summer! Yes, we are thinking about the summer already! The Chamber Golf Tournament is shaping up nicely, we are very greatful for three gold sponsors this year, Sebastian River Medical Center, Waste Management and Indian River Medical Center. Feels like a show-down with the hospitals, the sponsor category could be really interesting! There might be a lot of Criers & Whiners out on the course! We are really looking forward to the monthly Business & Pleasure this month, with a ribbon cutting and re-Grand Opening of the Best Western Sebastian. Under new ownership and management, the Best West-ern team is eager to show off the rooms and grounds, and they promise door prizes and goodies for every-body who attends. We hope you will join us! We have seen a nice uptick on attendance at our monthly networking events, members are actively work-ing the events to meet new people, gain contacts and find new opportunities for business. Two of our three monthly events are free, and our luncheon are still very affordable. We would ask that if you are planning on attending that you give us a shout, either by phone, fax or email, and let us know you are coming. We love surprises, but also like to make sure we have enough of whatever is being offered to satisfy every-body. The definition of RSVP is repondez sil vous plait! Simply, reservations would be helpful! Inside this newsletter is our Business 2 Business Discount booklet, in a new, easier to use format. It’s also easier on my tired eyes! If you haven’t considered offering a special discount for services and products to Chamber members before, maybe you will like the new format and reconsider. Just give us a call and we will explain how this program works, and sign you up. Its absolutely free! We launched the new “Greater Fellsmere Destination Video” last month, its now on you Tube, soon to be on a number of websites, and copies will be available soon. This was a great project with Bob Barbour, and the City of Fellsmere, along with financial support from the Indian River county Tourism Council, and County Commissioners. We think we captured the whole Fellsmere lifestyle thing, and made the case for folks to consider a visit, or relocation or business start up. You will have to make up your own mind! We may show this at our next lunch too! The timing was right for this project, as Fellsmere celebrates one hundred years of being a City, and they have plans to do it right. April 1 and 2 will be dedicated to the Fellsmere Days celebration, including a hometown parade, and extraordinary light show, with entertainment by the Nouveau Honkies, and a special dedication of the Old Fellsmere School, newly restored and renovated. We hope to see you there!

Happy 100 Birthdays to the City of Fellsmere!
