International Conference
Linking Culture, Nature, andCommunity Through Ecotourism
Ecotourism is often viewed as an 'alternative' form of tourism ascompared to mass tourism. According to the Quebec Declaration onEcotourism, it embraces the principles of sustainable tourism butdistinguishes itself from the wider concept of sustainable tourism throughthe following principles:

destination to the visitor; andLends itself better to independent travellers, as well asorganises tours for small sized groups.
As ecotourism is introduced and embraced by most government in thirdworld and developing countries, there is a need to revisit and review itsbasic fundamentals and concept. Curtin Sarawak was established in 1999 as the first offshore campus of Western Australia's Curtin University of Technology at the invitation of the
Sarawak State Government, which recognised the need for a tertiary institution of international calibre to match the city's tremendous growth, as well
as Curtin's reputation for excellence in the region. In a matter of just ten years, Curtin Sarawak has established itself as a world-renowned
international university in East Malaysia, attracting students from all over the world to our state-of-the-art campus amidst a beautiful garden setting inSenadin, about 20 kilometres from the centre of Miri City.
We are a popular choice for our international outlook, innovative courses, world-class teaching facilities, flexible study options, applied and practical
subjects, use of advanced technology, partnerships with industry and government, ideal campus location, experienced academics and staff, and
active community engagement.
However, with the current turn of economic events worldwide, seeking the best education option now needs to take into serious consideration the
cost factor. This has led many parents and students in the region to consider Curtin Sarawak, which offers the best of all worlds.
