We have a special gift coming up on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 7-8, when Carmen Ro-sa will assist us in religious song during Communion at all the Masses (singing in Spanish). She and her husband are based near Dallas, Texas, and over the last 10 years Carmen Rosa has sung in more than 600 parishes worldwide, as part of their ministry Para la Gloria de Dios (For the Glory of God). All they hope for is that we be inspired, and that we consider purchasing CDs of Carmen Rosa's music after Mass. The proceeds are partly given to the hosting parish (St Joseph), as a donation; partly used to fund a few expenses, like car rental or motel if no housing is available; their air travel is free (her husband works for an airline); and the rest supports the work of their non-profit Fundación Sueños de Barrio (Dreams of the Barrio Foundation) to help poor families and children, who are among the poorest of the poor, and live at the edges of garbage dumps, and scramble for shreds of cast-away food, clothing, and such, even as the garbage trucks unload their cargo. Besides providing food, they also raise money to provide 1st Communion white dresses and suits for the children, and provide music, so they can have a beautiful celebration of 1st Communion, even though liv-ing in the midst of squalor. Carmen Rosa has been asked three times in the last 7 years to sing in the Mañanitas for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Basilica of OLG in Mexico City, serenading the true tilma image of Our Lady (of which we have a life-sized image near the pulpit in church at St Joseph). St. Joseph Parish Religious Education The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A) is the process for individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacra-ments of initiation - Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. The parish community is encouraged to invite those interested to explore this process, and also to support them in prayer as they continue in this spiritual journey with Jesus Christ and His Church. Anyone interested in becoming Catholic may attend these meetings during the year to learn more information about the RCIA process and the Catholic faith. Salem Catholic Schools Foundation has been providing support to Catholic schools in the Salem area since 1978 in way of scholarships and grants. Their grants support special projects, as well as tuition as-sistance and emergency financial aid.
St. Joseph Catholic School has been blessed with numerous grant awards from the Founda-tion. This year we will receive over $113,000 in grant funds to replace the current antiquated fire alarm system, data wiring in the our media center and a new roof on the south side of the school building. El domingo, 8 de abril que es el domingo de la Divina Misericordia, estará cantan-do Carmen Rosa en todas las misas de español y de ingles. Al final de todas las misas Carmen Rosa estará vendiendo cd’s de su música con el fin de ayudar a las familias y niños de bajos recursos que buscan su sustento en los basure-ros de nuestros países latinos. Este do-mingo de la Misericordia mostremos nuestra misericordia por nuestros niños y familias en necesidad. Pueden ustedes leer un poco mas acerca de Carmen Ro-sa en el mensaje de Msgr.
