A New Way to Give! We want to thank all of you who
have embraced this new way of giving. The response has
been exceptional. We had a great rollout plan for
Pushpay which would have slowly introduced it and
explained in detail the whys and hows until the
implementation. Unfortunately with the unexpected Covid
19 pandemic, we were forced to scrap our rollout plan/
schedule and just make it available. Pushpay is a great
and innovative company. They are also very supportive
to the parishes they serve. Overall it has gone great,
thanks to all of you. There are some features we would
like to have that are currently not available. JoEllen and
Rhonda are continually working with the Pushpay team to
request changes/updates that will meet the needs of the
Mary Queen Community. Please see the new Giving
Options Tab on the website homepage. It has some new
features for giving.

The texttogive and online giving are available for
you to use. We would love for you to try it and let us know
what you think. For online giving go to pushpay.com/
g/maryqueencatholicchurch or you can text the words
Mary Queen to 77977 and follow the prompts to pay
through your smartphone! Pushpay currently accepts
Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, as
well as ACH (bank account) payments!

account, go to https://membership.faithdirect.net/

bottom right corner, you will see “Cancel My eGiving
Account”. If it does not allow you to cancel online, you
can call them at 18665078757. You will not lose any of
your giving history at Mary Queen Church.

To set up your recurring contribution on Pushpay, simply
text the words MARY QUEEN to 77977 or go to https://
pushpay.com/g/maryqueencatholicchurch. As you set
up your recurring gift you will complete the creation of
your new account. Unlike Faith Direct, Pushpay does not
give us the option at this time to make all second
collections visible or to schedule annual giving. We are
currently working on that with Pushpay and we will have
a temporary solution soon until the "Annual" giving button
is developed.

Mind Your Step
(5
th
Sunday of Easter: Acts 6:17; 1 Peter 2:49; John 14:112)

St. Peter, in today’s second reading, combines three
distinct Old Testament texts: Isaiah 28:16, Psalm 118:22,
and Isaiah 8:14.

The first two are used to give force to his exhortation:
“Come to him, a living stone, rejected by human beings but
chosen and precious in the sight of God, and, like living
stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house.”
The third, however, refers to “a stone that will make people
stumble,” and he adds, “They stumble by disobeying the
word.”

This is an apt image for the people whom Mary complained
about at La Salette. They were stumbling in many ways.
Blighted wheat and potatoes, rotten grapes and worm
eaten walnuts, the prospect of famineit is no wonder that
they were anxious and demoralized.

Mary saw all this, but she also saw their blighted inner
harvesttheir indifference to and mockery of religion, and
their blasphemous disrespect for her Son’s name. These
had brought them very low indeed.

Not all spiritual stumbling is sin. In our first reading, for
example, we learn that dissension over the distribution of
food was threatening the harmony of the early Christian
community in Jerusalem. A solution was found before
permanent harm could be done.

The same is true of our doubts and questioning. These are
most often honest expressions of our inability to
understand the ways of God. When we are tempted to go
so far as to blame God for our troubles, we do well to
remember St. Peter’s quotation of Isaiah 28:16, “Behold, I
am laying a stone in Zion, a cornerstone, chosen and
precious, and whoever believes in it shall not be put to
shame.”

We must believe in the cornerstone and build a structure of
hope upon it. It is one thing to stumble. It is quite another
thing not to get up.

Let us not forget the Gospel, in which Jesus says, “You
have faith in God; have faith also in me,” and “I am the way
and the truth and the life.” Along this Way no stumbling is
fatal, before this Truth no doubt is permanent, and in this
Life, death shall not have dominion.

Archdiocese of GalvestonHouston Prayer
in the Time of the Coronavirus

Comfort us, O Lord, for we are like
your disciples on the storm tossed seas,
unsettled by what lies ahead.
We turn to You, our Healer and Guide,
to still our hearts in our time of need and
hear our prayer: Heal those who are sick
with the coronavirus and protect the elderly
and most vulnerable. Give strength to all who
tend to our health and wisdom to researchers
who work toward a cure. Open our eyes
and hearts, as you did during Hurricane Harvey,
that we may look beyond our immediate needs to care
for others who need help.
Through the Holy Spirit, guide our leaders to make wise
decisions for the welfare of all the people
they serve. Grant eternal rest to those who
have died from the virus. May Mary,
Our Mother, who has heard our pleas in
the storms of our lives, intercede to her Son,
that we may find healing and a prompt end to this ill-
ness. Mary, Star of the Sea, pray for us.
Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, heal us. Amen
Spiritual Act of Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most
Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I
desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this
moment receive You sacramentally, come at least
spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were
already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never
permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

During these difficult times, men need spiritual
sustenance more, not less: “Man does not live by bread
alone, but by every word that falls from the mouth of
God” (Matthew 4:4).

As such, many of our men our friends and neighbors
are not able to receive the spiritual sustenance they need
and have traditionally found through That Man is You!

To continue to serve the Men of Mary Queen, we will
continue to meet on Wednesday mornings from 5:45
7:00 AM for the TMIY sessions "virtually". Obviously, this
can never fully replace inperson meetings, but it can
provide the spiritual sustenance needed when we don't
have other options.

I know that the coronavirus is placing increasing
demands on all of us. Let us trust that God's grace will
always be sufficient: "God ... will not let you be tempted
beyond your strength" (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Gospel Meditation
May 10, 2020

When earthly lives end, especially when the person is
younger, we tend to focus upon and consider what was
lost. We think of lost opportunities things they won’t be
able to see, babies they won’t be able to cradle, and
adventures that now must go undiscovered. Our minds
create this chasm between earth and heaven that sees
the losses of this life as permanent ones, never possible
to achieve again. This perception causes many folks to
remain stuck in their grief as they ponder all of the missed
opportunities and regrets.

This is not resurrection thinking. All of the love that we can
give and receive, the joy and elation that can be
experienced, the adventures that can be undertaken, and
the possibilities to be discovered are all part of a
continuous journey. They are not ends in and of
themselves but are all part of the unfolding of a
relationship we have with God, who not only makes all of
these wonderful things possible now but sustains them
and fulfills them into eternity. The perception and
experience of loss is really an illusion, because in God’s
eternal kingdom and in God’s time, nothing is ever lost.
Even the most intimate and tender of moments we can
conceive of sharing with another human being are only
part of a journey toward perfect intimate and tender
moments to be shared with God in our resurrected life. We
become like God and see God as He is in eternity. What
greater joy, love, and hope can ever be discovered as we
walk down our often dimly lit paths in this world.

This is an awesome wonder and magnificent news to
behold. Call to mind someone you have lost in death. How
do you see them now? How do you see yourself in
heaven? Remind yourself, again, that God is the Way, the
Truth and the Life. Our happiness is not going to be fully
realized in this world, and there is nothing we can find
here that cannot be found one hundred fold in eternity. It’s
all about relationship, and not solely about the
relationships we have with each other, ourselves, and the
world in which we live. It’s about our relationship with God.
If we realize how special that one relationship really is,
then there is only one particular of heaven and life eternal
that really matters: namely, that we fall into love eternal
and discover truth. For when we finally close our eyes in
death, then all will be well as long as we are with God.
There are no losses, only gains.

Rite of Crowning
On Friday, May 1st, after the 8:30 AM Mass, Mary Queen celebrated The Rite of Crowning, also referred to as May
Crowning. Mary was presented with a crown of flowers to signify her queenship as the mother of Christ the King. Father
Jim and Father Sibi presided over the ceremony. Josephine Krancher was the crowner, while her brother, Jude assisted
her. Many parishioners brought flowers throughout the day to honor, Mary. It was a beautiful ceremony as we begin to
reopen our church. May is the month that we honor the example and venerate Our Mother Mary. Mary deserves honor,
not only during the month of May, but always.

The video of the ceremony can be found on the Mary Queen Facebook page.

The Scammers are out in full force, trying to
take advantage of kind hearted people
during this difficult time. Fr. Jim and Fr. Sibi

Consumer Alert: Scammers Impersonating
Pastors to Solicit Gift Cards
Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a consumer alert
regarding persons alleging to be priests or pastors,
texting members of the church and asking them to buy
gift cards for a false charitable cause.

Texans have received deceptive texts from people
pretending to be pastors, then requesting that they
purchase a gift card and send them the information to
access that card. The scammers claim these cards are
needed for some charitable reason, but insist they cannot
pick up a gift card themselves and the purchaser will be
reimbursed.

All Texans should be aware of unsolicited calls and texts
from scammers impersonating leaders of the church. We
believe that the scammers are using information found on
churches’ websites or bulletins. Churches throughout
Texas have seen reports of this scam.

Focus on the Good

When I was a child, my mother had a set of sculptures
resembling three human heads. One head had hands
over the ears, one had hands over the eyes, and one had
hands over the mouth. Of course, they depicted the
phrase, “Hear no evil; see no evil; speak no evil.” I have
seen these images repeated many times since then, usu-
ally as the monkey heads from a Japanese proverb,
which would have probably seemed a little less creepy to
me when I was a small child. Apparently, there is no con-
sensus about the full meaning or certain origin of these
three images nor the phrase. At the very least, it causes
us to reflect on the need to avoid evil and look for the
good in things.

As I have lived my life, I have come to believe there are
more people who lives their lives in a contrary manner to
these images. It is not that they seek evil, but it is as if
they “see no good, hear no good, and speak no good.”
Gossiping is the way they pass the time, and they always
seem to find the negative in people and situations. Being
a good steward certainly means that we do not seek evil,
but more than that, it means that we see the abundance
of good things all around us. These gifts of God are big
and little, profound and ordinary. By seeing the world in
this way, we begin to change our personalities and our
overall disposition. We always need to follow a new prov-
erb: see all the good, hear all the good, and speak about
the good. Amen.
