The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM)Fiber to the User (FTTU) system provides you with a 21st-century platformfor bundled services and offers a wide range of network applications, includ-ing fiber access to residential and business subscribers, as well as subscribersin multiple dwelling or tenant units (MDU/MTU). With the Alcatel-Lucent7342 ISAM FTTU, you gain a long-term strategic advantage over yourcompetition. The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAMFTTU uses Full Service AccessNetwork (FSAN) standards compli-ant gigabit passive optical network(GPON) technology to multiplexany mix of voice, video or data inthe central office (CO) onto asingle fiber that is terminated atthe subscriber’s premises. Each PONline supports 2.5 Gb/s downstreamand 1.2 Gb/s upstream. In additionto GPON performance, PON linescan be extended up to 20 km with32 subscribers per PON, or up to64 subscribers per PON for shorterdistances.

The Alcatel-Lucent ISAM technology is also designedfor wire-speed performance with cost-effective Ethernetswitching and enhanced Layer 2/Layer 3 functions.The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTU combinesISAM performance with a comprehensive integratedsolution for fiber access. With this technology, you havethe flexibility to deliver RF video, IPTV, data, legacyand next generation voice – as well as backhaul 2G, 3Gand WiMAX radio access, all on one platform. Just asimportant, the Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTU ismanaged by the same systems used for all Alcatel-Lucentaccess products: the Alcatel-Lucent 5526 AccessManagement System (AMS) in ANSI markets, or the Alcatel-Lucent 5523 ADSL Work Station (AWS)in ETSI markets.

Figure 3 illustrates the elements of a complete Alcatel-Lucent 7342ISAM FTTU end-to-end solution.The solution includes a packetoptical line terminal (P-OLT),located in the CO, that terminatesPON interfaces connected to manyoutlying ONTs. The Alcatel-LucentFTTU solution includes fourdiffer ent types of ONTs: IndoorONTs (ONT I-Series) for singlefamily homes; Outdoor ONTs(ONT O-Series) for single familyhomes and Small Office HomeOffices (SOHOs); Business ONTs(ONT B-Series); and Low ProfileMultiple Dwelling/Tenant ONTsfor up to 12 living units or smallbusinesses (LP-MDU-ONTs).

The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAMFTTU solution supports longer reachfrom the CO to the subscriber —up to 20 kilometers (12.4 miles).Each fiber terminated at the P-OLT

in the CO can be split using opticalsplitters, which enables the 7342to serve up to 64 ONTs located at outlying subscriber sites. TheAlcatel-Lucent 7342 FTTU performsservice differentiation and trafficflow prioritization in the ONT andP-OLT. using multiple GigE and 10 GigEinterfaces. Traffic flow prioritizationis performed at all interfaces usingup to 8 queues for different servicetypes. Traffic flow grooming is per -formed by using per service or persubscriber virtual LANs (VLANs)in the Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAMFTTU and virtual private LANservice (VPLS) instances in theBSA. The VPLS instances areterminated at the BSR, which isconnected to the IP routed network.

8 Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTU

For IPTV, the Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTUsupports the Internet group management protocol(IGMP) proxy/snooping function within the P-OLTand ONT, permitting dynamic multicast of videochannels. The GigE/10GigE interfaces at each P-OLT,the GPON interfaces, and the ONTs receive and forwardIP video traffic using multicasting. In addition to IPvideo, the Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTU systemincludes an optional integrated RF overlay solution forvideo services. A video optical line terminal (V-OLT)is used to amplify the video signal using erbium-dopedfiber amplifiers (EDFAs) for transmission downstream.

Service AccessWith the Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTU solution,you can also deliver a full bundle of services — voice,data, and video — over a single fiber cable to anyresidential subscribers — for indoor or outdoordeployment — whether these subscribers are living in single family units (SFUs) or multi-dwelling units(MDUs). Moreover Alcatel-Lucent ONTs are compliantwith ITU-T standards and managed through an ONTmanagement and control interface (OMCI).

The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ONT O-Series is designedto deliver triple play services to single-family homeowners and Small Office Home Office owners that needa telco demarcation point outside the home or office.The ONT O-Series is a temperature-hardened unitready for outdoor deployment with battery backup for lifeline services. The SFU versions of the O-Seriesinclude two or four POTS interfaces and one or twoEthernet or Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and one optionalF connector for RF video. In addition, an optionalMOCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) interface isincluded for Ethernet over existing coax home wiring.

The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 LP-MDU-ONTs are designed to provideservices to residential subscribersin MDUs, such as apartment build -ings or multi-tenant units such asbusiness buildings. The ONT canconnect up to 12 subscribers overtelephone or Ethernet cables. Itslow profile (3.844” x 17.43” x 12”)design is ideal for installation interminal rooms in a rack, closet, or outdoor cabinet. Two differentversions of the LP-MDU-ONT canbe used depending on the in-build -ing cable interface required. TheLP-MDU-V ONT provides VDSL2interfaces over telephone wires andthe LP-MDU-G ONT providesGigabit Ethernet interfaces overCategory 5/6 wires. Both versionsinclude 24 POTS interfaces alongwith a coax interface with highlaunch power that you can use todistribute RF video.

The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ONT I-Series is designed to deliver tripleplay services to single-family homes.I-Series ONTs can either be mount-ed inside the home or placed free-standing on a desk, and can beequipped with a battery backup for lifeline services. They includetwo POTS interfaces for voice, and up to two Ethernet or GigabitEthernet interfaces for high-speeddata and one F connec tor for video.

The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ONT-BSeries is designed to deliver tripleplay services to businesses thatneed a telco demarcation pointoutside the business site. The B-Series ONTs are temperature-hardened and ready for outdoordeployment with battery backup.They include eight POTS inter -faces for voice, and one GigabitEthernet interface, two DS1 or EIinterfaces for TDM services, and oneoptional F connector for RF video.
