Level 1 Options

• General Training Course (GTC)• This course is an introduction to summer training. It gives

the participants a little taste of the cadet summer training centre (CSTC) life, survival, leadership, citizenship, drill, aviation, music, marksmanship, fitness and aerospace training.

• Duration: 2 weeks;• Location: Bagotville, QC;• Sqn proficiency level: Level 1 successfully completed by

the end of the current training year.• Prerequisites: Must be medically and physically fit, and

have completed Level One training by 30 Jun 13.

Minimum Level 2 Options

• Basic Drill and Ceremonial Course (BDCC)• The aim of the training is to prepare cadets to

perform the role of a peer leader while building upon the leadership and drill and ceremonial knowledge and skills learned through the sqn program.

• Duration: 3 weeks;• Location: Valcartier, QC; TBC• Sqn proficiency level: Level 2 successfully completed

by the end of the current training year June 30, 2013.

• Basic Survival Course (BSC)• The aim of the training is to further develop in cadets

basic survival skills and inspire them to pursue specialist training in this subject area. This will allow them to participate as a skilled junior cadet in survival training as part of the sqn program.

• Duration: 3 weeks;• Location: Bagotville, QC; TBC• Sqn proficiency level: Level 2 successfully completed

by the end of the current training year, June 30, 2013.

• Basic Fitness and Sports Course (BFSC)• The aim of the training is to prepare cadets to

perform the duties of a Basic Fitness and Sports Assistant while continuing to develop personal fitness and healthy living skills.

• Duration: 3 weeks;• Location: Bagotville, QC; TBC• Sqn proficiency level: Level 2 successfully completed

by the end of the current training year, June 30, 2013.

• Basic Aviation Course (BAC)• The aim of the training is to further develop in cadets

the fundamentals of aviation and inspire them to pursue specialist training in this subject area.

• Duration: 3 weeks;• Location: Bagotville, QC; TBC;• Sqn proficiency level: Level 2 successfully completed

by the end of the current training year, June 30, 2013.

• Basic Aviation Technology and Aerospace Course (BATAC)

• The aim of the training is to further develop in cadets the fundamentals of aerospace, airport operations and aircraft manufacturing and maintenance and inspire them to pursue specialist training in some or all of the subject areas.

• Duration: 3 weeks;• Location: Bagotville, QC; TBC;• Sqn proficiency level: Level 2 successfully completed by

the end of the current training year, June 30, 2013.

• Military Band - Basic Musician Course (MB - BMC)• The aim of the training is to develop the music

proficiency of cadets and prepare them to support their sqn bands and related music activities.

• Duration: 3 weeks;• Location: ERMC-Valcartier, QC; TBC;• Sqn proficiency level: Level 2 successfully completed

by the end of the current training year, June 30, 2013.

• Pipe Band - Basic Musician Course (PB - BMC)• The aim of the training is to develop the music

proficiency of cadets and prepare them to support their sqn bands and related music activities.

• Duration: 3 weeks;• Location: ERMC-Valcartier, QC; TBC;• Sqn proficiency level: Level 2 successfully completed

by the end of the current training year, June 30, 2013.

the skills and subject matter knowledge required to be an instructor and team leader for drill and ceremonial activities

• Duration: 6 weeks;• Location: Valcartier, QC; TBC• Sqn proficiency level: Level 3 successfully completed

by the end of the current training year, June 30, 2013.

• Survival Instructor Course (SIC)• The aim of the training is to develop a specialist with

the skills and subject matter knowledge required to be an instructor and team leader for aircrew survival activities within the Air cadet program.

• Duration: 6 weeks;• Location: Bagotville, QC; TBC• Sqn proficiency level: Level 3 successfully completed

by the end of the current training year, June 30, 2013.

• Fitness and Sports Instructor Course (FSIC)• The aim of the training is to develop a specialist with the skills and

subject matter knowledge required to perform the role of a fitness and sports instructor and a team leader for fitness and sports activities conducted at the squadron, during regionally directed activities and/or as a staff cadet at a CSTC.

• Duration: 6 weeks;• Location: Bagotville, QC; TBC• Sqn proficiency level: Level 3 successfully completed by the end

of the current training year, June 30, 2013.• Cadet Fitness Assessment Incentive Level:• Candidates are to successfully obtain level bronze for their age

group by the application deadline. More information on the Cadet Fitness Assessment and Incentive Program can be found in CATO 14-18.

• Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor Course (ARMIC)• The aim of the training is to develop individual air rifle

marksmanship and summer biathlon specialty skills while reinforcing and further developing the leadership and instructional techniques skills, preparing the cadets to support these two specialty activities at the sqn, during regionally directed activities and/or as a staff cadet at a CSTC.

• Duration: 6 weeks;• Location: Connaught Ranges and Primary Training Centre,

ON; TBC;• Sqn proficiency level: Level 3 successfully completed by the

end of the current training year, June 30, 2013.

• Advanced Aviation Course (AAC)• The aim of the training is to develop a specialist with

the skills and subject matter knowledge required to be an instructor and team leader for aviation activities within the Air cadet program.

• Duration: 3 weeks;• Location: Bagotville, QC; TBC• Sqn proficiency level: Level 3 successfully completed

by the end of the current training year, June 30, 2013.

• Military Band - Intermediate Musician Course (MB - IMC)

• The aim of the training is to develop the music proficiency of cadets and prepare them to support their sqn bands and related music activities.

• Duration: 6 weeks;• Location: ERMC-Valcartier, QC; TBC • Music proficiency level: Have achieved the music

proficiency level basic; and• Sqn proficiency level: Level 3 successfully completed by

the end of the current training year, June 30, 2013.

Application Process

• Notice of Summer Training (Now, deadline to apply February 21).• Cadets must send an e-mail to [email protected] that lists their top three

choices by course name and whether serial 1(early summer) or 2 (mid-summer) or 3 (end summer) is preferred. They should also CC Capt Alle [email protected]; and Capt Leben [email protected].– The email should include whether the cadet is willing to accept other potential

courses that aren't listed and whether they are available outside of the serials that they have selected.

– General Training will have three serials (early, mid and late), three week courses have two serials (early or late) and six week courses have one serial (early July to mid August).

– Be sure to state your preferred language of instruction– If you are planning on attending a course which is not your official language

then you must be able to provide proof of your proficiency. Level 1 cadets can ONLY apply for General Training no other courses.

Application Process (Cont.)

• Once all of the applications are received Training and Admin staff will create a spreadsheet– The ranking takes into consideration your rank, age, participation to

Optional, Team, and Mandatory events, previous summer training, awards and level.

– A final local ranking is made which the CO approves and then the applications are sent to the Region.

• Once a cadet is accepted a “Notice of Participation Form” is printed and is to be signed by the parent/guardian and Cadet. (Expect May-June)

• All other cadets who applied, but did not meet the initial selection will be placed on stand-by (if they want).

• Stand-by position availability, subject to Region.– Stand-by on day of…– Results from last year were positive

• *Imperative that validation and health forms basic, and detailed/food questionnaire if needed.

Transport (Regular)

• All cadets will travel in uniform with element polar fleece. • Cadets must not bring their cadet corps tunic at camp. • Cadet corps will receive dates and schedules for group

transportation no later than June 1st. • The majority of cadets will travel as a group by chartered

bus. An escort officer is present on each bus, as per required.

• For cadets travelling to camps outside the province, the travel itinerary will be sent directly to home addresses prior to June 15th. • If you have not received this information one week prior to the

departure date, check with the cadet corps contact officer.

Travel (Other)

• Air Transportation: Cadets travelling by air will receive special security and luggage instructions. Those who do not receive thisinformation should check with the cadet corps contact officer.

• Cadets residing in the immediate area of Summer Camp : Cadets from the immediate area of the summer camp are expectedto report at camp from 8:00 (am) to 16:00 (pm) on the first training day.

• Travel Expenses : Some expenses related to authorized travel (bus tickets, taxis, meals) will be reimbursed at your arrival at thecamp or during your visit to CCD upon presentation of receipts. It is important to mention to the staff camp that you have receipts to be reimbursed.

• Departure from Summer Camp : Cadets will be able to leave with their parents/guardians at the end of the summer camp. Cadets returning by bus will be informed of the schedule and procedure 48 hours prior to departure.

• (BE ON TIME) Departure will not be at hangar, it will most likely be at the Aviation Museum or Ottawa Airport

Visit and Short Leave

• Cadets on the two-week and three-week camps will not be granted to leave the camp.

• For all cadets, visits are permitted on Sunday between 13:00 and 20:00 hrs.

• Parents should contact the administration officer of the camp (email or phone above) before attending the camp for a visit or request to leave with their children.

Supervision & Discipline

• All summer camp participants must adhere to rules andregulations promulgated by summer camp authorities, includingthe rules of community life and code of discipline.• Drugs/Alcohol : The use or possession of illegal drugs andalcohol are strictly forbidden.• Energy Drink : The use or possession of energy drink isprohibited (no sales on summer camp premises).• Weapons : Firearms and edged weapons like knives, daggers,machetes, etc, are prohibited.• Smoking : There are programs in place to encourage personneland cadets to quit smoking. No tobacco products are sold onsummer camp premises.

Services Available

• Canteen : A canteen is available on all summer camps.

• ATM : Each summer camp has an ATM for withdrawals only.
