The HistoryThe original buildings on this site were small one-story and two-story brick commercial buildings. Themost distinctive feature on 7517 Monterey was a variated parapet which was in the shape of anelongated arched brick band along the roofline. The ornamentation on 7525 Monterey was the largeindented rectangular space on the second floor. Over time the first-floor façade were significantlyaltered. With this update the building were returned to a deep recessed centered front door with angledglass displays with retention of the second-floor features. By retaining the basic design elements thesebuildings help define the urban form of downtown Gilroy.

Built in 1900 and 1910, theses building have housed varied uses over time. The original 7517 Montereytenant was Red and White Grocery and Meat Market, followed by B. Rocca and Company Clothing Store,Rendi’s Clothing Boutique and other clothing stores. The original 7525 Monterey tenant was the GilroyTelephone Company, followed by Conrotto’s Barber Shop and Candy Store and Mr. Art’s Shoe Store.
