Auto Hold FunctionAs soon as the Tiguan comes to a complete stop, the ABS hydraulic unit retains its fi nal braking pressure. So even when you take your foot off the brake pedal, the brakes remain applied to all four wheels, providing increased comfort in stationary traffi c. When you drive off again, a touch on the accelerator automatically releases this function, and your journey continues.

TSI Technology. A Miracle Of PerformanceTSI describes Volkswagen’s twin or single-charged petrol engines with direct injection. This innovative engineering has created high tech engines boasting excellent torque and power output at low revolutions, combined with lower fuel consumption and emissions.
The Tiguan TSI engine is an innovative 2.0 litre unit that saves petrol while delivering impressive power and performance thanks to the turbocharger and direct petrol injection. A turbocharger compresses the air required for combustion. Compared with a naturally aspirated engine with the same displacement, a turbocharged engine can produce higher power and torque, as well as being highly effi cient.
TDI TechnologyVolkswagen’s cutting-edge TDI engines with Diesel Particulate Filters feature Common Rail technology – injecting precise amounts of fuel at exceedingly high pressure. The result is a cleaner burning engine with exceptional fuel economy, impressive torque and compelling performance.

Static Cornering Lights* O
When the steering wheel is turned or the turn indicator is operated, a small additional refl ector with a separate halogen bulb illuminates the area into which the vehicle is turning. As a result passers-by are picked up sooner and more easily by the driver, and the attention of other road users is increased by the clear signal effect of the Static Cornering Light.
Dynamic Cornering Lights* O
Bi-xenon headlights with Dynamic Cornering Lights provide up to 90% better illumination of corners or the turn-off area. The headlight beams follow the steering angle of the vehicle’s steering wheel with the aid of small servomotors in the headlight units. The improved visibility enables obstacles to be detected earlier, and the driver gains additional reaction time.
*Static and Dynamic Cornering Lights are combined with optional bi-xenon headlights.
Park Assist O
Thanks to this innovative technology, reverse parking has never been so easy. When driving past a parking space at up to 30 km/h, ultrasonic sensors compare the available space with the length of the vehicle. Park Assist is able to maneouvre the vehicle into spaces with as little as 1.1 metres in addition to the length of the vehicle, with several moves if necessary. If there’s enough room to park, Park Assist automatically takes charge of the steering when you select reverse gear.
The accelerator, clutch and brake are all you need to control as the Tiguan is expertly parked for you. Naturally, the driver is fully responsible for monitoring the speed of the vehicle and the distance between it and other vehicles, even when the Park Assist system is operating.
DYNAUDIO Premium Audio System O
The optional DYNAUDIO premium audio system delivers superb sound quality with 300W and 8 speakers.
Adaptive Chassis Control O Adaptive chassis control electronically adjusts the damper characteristics for each wheel, ensuring optimum driving comfort for any road surface or driving situation. It achieves the optimum balance between driving comfort and driving dynamics.
Adaptive chassis control uses wheel movement and body acceleration sensors to determine wheel positions, speeds and chassis motion, then adjusts the damping for individual wheels every millisecond. It analyses signals from the steering, engine, gearbox, brake system and driver assistance systems.
By selecting Normal, Sport or Comfort modes, the damper controls adapt from comfort-oriented to a fi rmer, sporty characteristic. Sport mode suppresses rolling and pitching and adjusts the electro-mechanical power steering to achieve sporty and dynamic handling. Comfort mode improves ride quality, especially when driving on poor road surfaces at slow speeds.
Media Device Interface (MDI) O This sophisticated new interface facilitates connection to USB audio devices, data storage devices and Apple iPod®*. The MDI allows audio fi les to be operated via the in-dash audio system without the need to input controls via the media device itself. The MDI system also provides a charging function.

Safety.Safety is of the highest priority to Volkswagen and is therefore an overriding theme in the design and engineering of the Tiguan. With a maximum 5 Star Rating awarded by ANCAP# plus a full suite of active and passive safety systems, you can rest assured that your safety has been thoroughly considered.
The Tiguan owes its high safety rating# to its rigid body structure which creates a solid passenger cell. Its body panels are designed to crumple in the event of an accident, absorbing the energy of the impact. The Tiguan’s lightweight construction is reinforced with hardened, high strength steel to give occupants maximum protection in an accident.
In an accident, depending on the severity of the impact, the Tiguan’s safety features work together to protect occupants by deploying the belt tensioners and airbags. The system also activates the hazard warning lights, the doors are unlocked, interior lights are switched on and the fuel pump is deactivated. Pedestrian safety is also improved with a deformable bonnet and foam sections behind the front bumpers to minimise leg injuries.
Active Safety – Everything designed to help prevent accidents from happening.Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)When braking, wheel speed sensors measure the road wheel speed and should one or more wheels start to lock the ABS system reduces brake pressure to that wheel. This prevents the wheels from locking during heavy or emergency braking, enabling the vehicle to remain steerable.
Brake AssistDuring emergency braking, Brake Assist aids the driver by increasing the brake pressure automatically to a level exceeding the locking limit. The ABS is thus quickly brought into the operating range, which enables maximum vehicle deceleration to be achieved.
Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD)Every vehicle’s centre of gravity shifts forwards when the brakes are applied. This presents a risk of the rear wheels tending to lock up due to the reduction in traction. Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution uses the solenoid valves in the ABS unit to regulate the braking power at the rear wheels, thereby ensuring maximum braking performance at both the front and rear wheels and preventing the rear end from swerving out due to over-braking in the rear wheels.

4MOTION® All-Wheel DriveAll-wheel drive provides maximum traction and the Tiguan’s intelligent all-wheel drive adds to its active safety features. The latest generation of 4MOTION® all-wheel drive is standard and available with manual or automatic 6-speed transmissions.

Passive Safety – Design measures taken to protect the occupants of vehicles from injury, or to reduce the risk of injury.AirbagsSix airbags (twin front, side and curtain) are standard features. Airbags combine with the seat belts to reduce the risk of severe head and chest injuries in collisions. When infl ated, airbags cushion the head and upper body and distribute the resulting loads over as large an area as possible.
Safety Optimised Head Restraints Safety Optimised Head Restraints on the front seats are optimally positioned and specially contoured to help reduce whiplash injuries. In the event of an accident, excellent protection is achieved via the seatback controlling upper body movements, and this is balanced with head movements being controlled via the head restraints.
SeatbeltsFront seat passenger seatbelts are equipped with belt pre-tensioners and belt force limiters. Belt tensioners tighten the seatbelt on impact, pulling it closer to the occupant’s body, ideally positioning them for airbag infl ation. Belt force limiters reduce seat belt forces on front seat occupants and, in conjunction with belt tensioners and airbags, lessen the risk of upper body injuries. Three-point seatbelts are fi tted to all seats, and three child seat anchor points are fi tted in the rear.
Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP)ESP helps ensure that the vehicle goes where you steer it, even in extreme driving conditions. The ESP system constantly compares the actual movement of the vehicle with carefully pre-determined values. Should a situation arise in which the vehicle starts to skid, ESP will apply the brakes to individual wheels and automatically adjust the engine’s power output to correct the problem. It also minimises the likelihood of spinning off on a curve due to understeering or oversteering.

Interior.The Tiguan’s compact size disguises an exceptionally spacious interior. Its sense of style and ergonomic design create ultimate comfort and refi nement, with everything intuitively in just the right place.
The Tiguan’s clever design has created maximum storage space. Hidden compartments are found in the roof console and doors, as well as beneath the front seats in the 147TSI. The rear seats split-fold in a 60:40 ratio, and individually slide and recline. The front passenger seat backrest also folds down to give you plenty of room for transporting bulky items (standard on the 147TSI).
Comfort and convenience surround you with an eight-speaker, MP3-compatible radio/CD player, complete with auxiliary input socket for external multimedia sources. Each Tiguan model comes standard with alloy wheels, new anti-theft wheel bolts have been designed to provide protection against theft and turn indicators are integrated into the door mirrors. Volkswagen’s TSI direct injection petrol engines or TDI Common Rail turbo diesel engines deliver exhilarating performance, coupled with either manual or automatic 6-speed transmissions.

3-year/100,000km (whichever occurs fi rst) manufacturer’s
warranty, which includes Volkswagen Assist (24hr roadside
assistance). Every new Volkswagen passenger vehicle is also
covered by a 3-year paintwork and 12-year anti-corrosion
perforation warranty.
Volkswagen Assist – 24 Hour Roadside AssistanceAs a valued customer, you can be assured that wherever you travel
within Australia, you will have access to roadside assistance,
24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This is complimentary for the
duration of the vehicle’s original Volkswagen warranty period.
You will receive help in the event of a breakdown or accident and
if required, your vehicle will be mobilised or transported to an
Authorised Volkswagen Repair Centre.
As a Volkswagen owner you will also have access to the additional
benefi ts of accommodation and car rental if your vehicle cannot
be mobilised within 24 hours, when you are over 100kms away
from home. Volkswagen Roadside Assist can also be renewed at
the expiry of the original warranty, ensuring ongoing coverage for

Electronic Diff erential Lock (EDL)EDL improves driving and steering characteristics when
accelerating on road surfaces where each wheel has a different
degree of traction. The system operates automatically and is
combined with the ABS system. Using the ABS wheel sensors,
EDL monitors the speed of the individual driving wheels.
When a difference in driving wheel speed is detected (i.e. when
one wheel starts to spin due to differences in road surfaces,
e.g. due to water or dirt) the system brakes the spinning wheel,
transferring engine power to the wheel with the best traction.
Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP)ABS and ASR traction control systems are integrated into the
Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP). In short, ESP helps ensure
that the vehicle goes where you steer it even in extreme driving
conditions. The ESP system constantly compares the actual
movement of the vehicle with pre-determined values and should
a situation arise where the vehicle starts to skid, ESP will apply the
brakes to individual wheels and automatically adjust the engine’s
power output to correct the problem. ESP prevents the vehicle
from losing control when trying to avoid an accident, for example.
It also prevents spinning off on a curve due to either understeer
or oversteer.
Park Assist*Park Assist actively helps the driver when reversing into parallel
parking spaces. The system works by using sensors mounted
either side of the front bumper together with parking distance
sensors front and rear. To parallel park the driver needs to press
the Park Assist button and use the appropriate indicator before
the car passes the potential parking space. Sensors in the front
bumper then scan the size of the parking space as the car is
driven slowly past and the driver is alerted if the parking space
is big enough. If there is suffi cient space, the driver stops the car,
selects reverse and let’s go of the steering wheel.
Park Assist will alert the driver of the intended reverse path in
the Multi-Function Display, within the driver’s fi eld of vision.
Park Assist then actively supports the driver by taking over the
steering control and parks the vehicle in the available space using
the ideal course, if necessary with several moves. The driver can
however take over the control of the steering at any time and end
the automatic parking procedure. The system can reverse into
parking spaces on both the left hand and right hand side of the
road, for example on one way streets.
Park Assist cannot replace the driver’s attentiveness. The driver is still legally responsible for the vehicle. If the driver notices a risk that pedestrians, other vehicles or objects could be damaged or if they are uncertain of the risk, they will need to react accordingly and stop the vehicle, ending the function.
Off -road Technology*With one switch, off-road technology mode activates an
integrated group of assistance systems that substantially enhance
control in an all-terrain environment. Off-road technology
includes Hill Descent Assistance which ensures by means of
controlled brake applications that the vehicle does not go out of
control when descending a steep hill. Hill Descent Assistance will
only operate when speeds are lower than 20km/h, the gradient is
greater than 20%, the engine is running and the accelerator and
brake pedals are not pressed.

Glossary.Adaptive Chassis Control*The electrically controlled dampers of adaptive chassis control
constantly adjust to the road conditions, the driving situation
and driver’s requirements. Using a button located on the centre
console, the driver selects between three damper settings –
NORMAL, COMFORT and SPORT.
Starting from the normal setting, the customer can change
the basic character of the car towards sporty or more
comfort-oriented driving. In SPORT and COMFORT settings,
the corresponding name is illuminated in the button.
In NORMAL setting, only the shock absorber symbol is
illuminated. In all settings, the adaptive chassis control
adjusts the damping to the particular driving situation
(up till one thousand times per second) which means it offers
an optimum level of driving comfort and enjoyment at all times.
In addition, in the SPORT setting the steering feel is also adapted.
Particularly on windy roads and poor surfaces, using adaptive
chassis control offers sporty and yet comfortable driving.
4MOTION®
An all-wheel-drive system that provides the best possible traction
at all road speeds, in all weather and road conditions. An electronic
Haldex clutch responds to traction losses at the front and rear axles
and directs torque to the axle with the best traction.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)When braking, wheel speed sensors measure the road wheel
speed and should one or more wheels start to lock the ABS system
reduces brake pressure to that wheel. This prevents the wheels
from locking during heavy or emergency braking, enabling the
vehicle to remain steerable.
Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR)ASR is a switchable traction control system that prevents
the wheels from spinning under acceleration by reducing
engine torque.
Auto Hold FunctionAs soon as the vehicle comes to a complete stop, the ABS hydraulic
unit stores the vehicles fi nal braking pressure. So even when
you take your foot off the brake pedal, all four wheels brakes
remain applied, providing increased comfort in stationary traffi c.
This function is released automatically when you drive off again.
Brake AssistDuring emergency braking, Brake Assist aids the driver by
increasing the brake pressure automatically to a level exceeding
the locking limit. The ABS is thus quickly brought into the
operating range, which enables maximum vehicle deceleration
to be achieved.
Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD)Electronic, more sophisticated means of regulating the ratio
of front/rear brake pressure. Settings are varied according to
driving and load conditions to ensure each wheel is braked to
the optimum extent.
Engine Braking Control (EBC)Prevents the driven wheels from locking if the accelerator is lifted
very suddenly or the vehicle is braked sharply because a low gear
is engaged.

Carbon Management ProgramOur range of vehicles has earned a reputation for fuel effi ciency. We’re working to extend that effi ciency throughout our entire operational structure. We’ve initiated a Carbon Management Program, to recommend changes to achieve emissions reductions. We’re making real changes in reducing our carbon footprint.
Environmentally Friendly EnginesOur TSI twin or single-charged petrol engines achieve impressive fuel effi ciency with reduced CO2 emissions. Our TDI diesel engines use less fuel and have lower emissions, with the benefi ts of high torque and performance. Our diesel particulate fi lter extracts soot from vehicle exhaust emissions. Numerous engines already fulfi ll the stringent forthcoming Euro 5 emissions standard.
Environmentally Friendly TransmissionOur dual-clutch Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) provides the comfort of a conventional automatic transmission and the dynamic drive of a manual transmission. DSG boasts signifi cantly reduced fuel consumption compared to a conventional automatic transmission. The new 7-speed DSG transmission is the fi rst dual-clutch gearbox with a ‘dry’ double clutch.
