Navigation OperationWhat is Navigation? The term "navigation" (lat. navigare = to travel by sea) is gen-erally understood to mean the location of a vehicle, the deter-mination of the direction and distance from the desireddestination and the required route. As navigation aids, stars, prominent landmarks, compass and satellites are used. With OnlinePro, location is determined by the GPS receiver(GPS = Global Positioning System). The direction and dis-tance from the destination is determined using a digital streetmap, a navigation computer and sensors. A speedometer andreverse signal are additionally used to calculate the route. For safety reasons, route guidance follows predominantly inspoken form supported by a direction indicator on the display.

Navigation CDsTwo navigation CDs are supplied with the navigation unit. These CDs contain a digitised street map. One CD for North-ern Europe (CD no. 1) and one CD for Southern Europe (CDno. 2) are supplied. The complete trunk road network and all destination centresin the digitised area of Northern and Southern Europe areavailable on the CDs. All digitised roads of the northern countries are also includedon the Northern Europe CD. All digitised roads of the south-ern countries are also included on the Southern Europe CD.In these detailed areas of the Northern or Southern Europe CDroad map, motorways, regional roads and unclassified roadsas well as country roads are stored. Larger cities and commu-nities are comprehensively covered. For smaller towns andcommunities, the regional and unclassified roads or accessroads and the town centres are included.

One-way streets, pedestrian zones, turning bans and othertraffic regulations are taken into account as far as possible. There may be discrepancies between the data on the naviga-tion CD and the actual local situation, due to permanentchanges to road systems and their traffic regulations.

For example, if you wish to navigate from a town on theSouthern Europe CD (D) to a town on the Northern EuropeCD (B), enter your destination address as usual. After enter-ing the town, you will be prompted to insert navigation CDNo. 1 by the display .After inserting the relevant CD, enter the road and, if re-quired, the house number or the town centre. The required map data is loaded and stored internally afterroute calculation has started.

Note: For Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark, non-ver-ified data has been used to achieve a high depth of dig-itisation; i.e. with this data, the navigation systemcannot refer to information such as motorway, trunkroad, 30 zone, one-way street or other traffic regula-tions, as this is not recorded. All roads can be used, but optimum route guidancecannot be guaranteed.

General InstructionsRDS SYSTEMThis car radio is capable of receiving RDS signals (RDS =Radio Data System) in the VHF range. RDS is a techniquewhich enables the transmission of inaudible additional infor-mation in the VHF broadcasting range. This means that thetransmitting station sends information capable of being ana-lysed by the car radio.
