John 20:30-31 “And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name.” An honest consideration of the word of God reveals to us that not only is Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, He is the Christ that we need for He is the Lord of life. Man is a being of manifold need. Jesus has the power to meet and satisfy our every need. That He is the Master of all creation is plain- ly seen in the declaration of the apostle Paul Colossians 1:16 “For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or princi- palities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.” The power of Jesus extends over the material and the immaterial, the secular and the spiritual. There are many blessings that stem from spending time with Jesus (through His word). Of these many blessings is that fact that we learn not only who Jesus is, we learn that we need Him. Peter ex- pressed his understanding of this fact in this way when asked by Je- sus if they would stop following Him as many others had done. John 6:68-69 “Then Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that Thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” Did not Peter acknowledge by this that he understood Jesus to be the Christ that we need. The great commonality of all humanity is that all men need a Savior (Romans 3:23). Jesus alone has the power to meet our needs. He- brews 7:25 “Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them.” Indeed, He is the Christ that we need.
