As we celebrate our 10th year – and our 7th Showcase – we remain committed to our vision of “creating and developing companies that improve the human condition.”
Over the past decade – following our model of invention, investment, and incubation in combination with intense support – we’ve created an ecosystem that encourages curiosity and promotes collaboration.
And it works. Since 2007, we’ve established 75 medical and agricultural technology companies, completed 6 exits, and taken 2 companies public. Our companies have received more than 15 awards, and Trendlines Medical has twice been honored as Best Incubator.
Our Showcase today is only one of the 28 conferences and road shows we’ve organized in Israel, China, Singapore, and the United States. These events are a key part of supporting our portfolio companies by exposing them to investors and strategic partners around the world.
We look forward to speaking with you about how you can be involved with Trendlines and our portfolio companies.
We invite you to speak with our entrepreneurs, talk with Trendlines’ professionals, and meet others from the global investment community. We look forward to working with you as we enter our second decade of creating and developing companies to improve the human condition.
We extend our thanks and appreciation to our companies, sponsors, program participants, and shareholders, who, along with our staff, serve to make this, our 7th Showcase, a success.

7th Annual Trendlines Company ShowcaseKeynote Speaker
A passionate serial entrepreneur and disruptor, Uri Levine has been involved in the high-tech industry for the last 30 years, with half of those in the start-up scene. He has “seen everything” from failure to middle success, to extreme success. Uri’s consumer services-focused agenda has one objective: to “create a lot of value to a lot of users” like saving money and time and empowering the consumer. In other words, doing good and doing well.
He co-founded Waze, the world’s largest driving traffic and navigation app, with more than 250 million drivers around the globe, which was acquired by Google in June 2013 for more than $1.1 billion.
After Waze, Uri co-founded and remains the active chairman at FeeX, which “addresses the biggest secret in the world”: the $600 billion of financial fees that no one knows they’re paying. FeeX enables users to recover hundreds of thousands of dollars in retirement savings and long-term investment plans.
In addition to FeeX, Uri is a co-founder and board member in half a dozen start-ups.

The needPreterm birth (delivery at 23 to 36 weeks of pregnancy) is the leading cause of newborn death and illness. Worldwide, 15 million babies annually are preterm. One million will die and another million will suffer from substantial life-long complications, including neurodevelopmental delays, breathing disorders, blindness, hearing loss, or cerebral palsy.
Obstetricians are at a loss regarding how to prevent spontaneous preterm birth. Treatments such as medications, stitching the cervix, and pessaries are unsuccessful.
The productatTerm Medical is developing the OBSPRING, a novel device positioned around the uterine cervix that behaves as a shock absorber, allows transient shortening and dilation of the cervix during contractions while restoring the cervix to its initial state when contractions subside. OBSPRING maintains the natural resistance of the cervix thus preventing preterm birth. The small, disposable device is positioned by the physician in the outpatient clinic and removed at term.

The needAround the world, the demand for fish is increasing, while the supply from the sea and natural fisheries has stagnated. With the limited availability of land and water, the only way for aquaculture to meet the growing demand is through intensification: producing more fish per unit of area and water.
Technologies that improve water quality are required for intensification. Current water treatment systems support high fish densities, but are complex and very expensive, making them accessible to only the small segment of high-end growers.
The product The BioFishency system operates with all different aquaculture methods and enables fish growers to upgrade their existing facilities while using existing infrastructure and operations.
The BioFishency system is easy to install and enhances water conditions to enable adding more feed to increase fish production.
● 95% reduction in water use (intensive tanks) ● 2-5 fold increase in yields (extensive ponds) ● 2x nitrification (ammonia removal) for improved water quality
AchievementsBioFishency launched Asia sales, with installations in multiple countries.

The needPOP is a clinical condition that affects millions of women worldwide. Associated with physical, psychological, and sexual problems, POP has a significant impact on quality of life, and treatment options are limited.
The productEscala’s novel system presents a long-overdue repair option for women with mild to moderate POP. Escala’s approach mirrors a gold standard surgery-based repair to fixate the vaginal apex to the sacrospinous ligament (SSL) in a safe, quick outpatient procedure.
● Incision- and mesh-free ● Safe, quick, easy-to-perform fixation ● Restores anatomy and preserves pelvic organ functionality

The needWhile laparoscopic surgeries are less invasive, closing abdominal access ports remains a difficult and time-consuming task. Today, surgeons manually suture ports with a needle and thread, adding up to 20 minutes per operation, or use a dedicated closure device, adding significantly to procedure cost and presenting safety problems.
The productInstead of inserting closure sutures in the fascia at the end of a procedure, Gordian’s uniquely designed “two-in-one” trocar automatically inserts sutures into the tissue surrounding the trocar at the beginning of the procedure. When the trocar is removed, the physician easily closes the fascia by tying the sutures.
● Simple: requires only minimal training ● Safe: reduced risk of organ damage ● Saves time: up to 20 minutes per operation
AchievementsThirteen U.S. surgeons completed 17 successful procedures in January 2017 using the Gordian Surgical system, marking the first time the system had been used in the United States and bringing the total number of surgeries to nearly 75. Procedures were performed at a number of U.S. hospitals, including Mount Sinai in New York and Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and Florida.

Developing a platform delivery technology to increase the mobility of active agrochemical ingredients in plants
The needTo ensure sustainable food production, it is essential to reduce the amounts of chemicals used for crop protection and fertilizing while maintaining their beneficial effects on yields. A key challenge is to improve the uptake of the agrochemicals into the plant and their mobility inside the plant to move the active ingredients (AI) from the site of application (for example, leaf or root) to the location in the plant where they produce the needed action.
The productInPlant’s delivery platform is the first to address the mobility of AIs within the plant. The technology is based on submicronic liposomes used as a carrier to enhance uptake and dispersion of AIs throughout the plant. The liposomes are comprised of inexpensive, GRAS materials that are compatible with factors in the agriculture environment including spraying, UV, and water.
● Lower doses, possibly fewer applications ● Reduced use of toxic formulation additives ● New synergetic AI combinations (magnesium and iron)
in a single product ● New application routes
AchievementsSigned a collaboration agreement with a multinational company to develop advanced crop protection products.

OrthoSpin
7th Annual Trendlines Company Showcase Trendlines Medical
The needExternal fixation devices are often the first line of treatment for lengthening bone, setting complex fractures, and correcting deformities. For treatment to be effective, patients manually adjust the frame by turning the struts (rods) up to four times per day to promote bone distraction (slowly moving two segments of bone apart) and healing.
Manual adjustments and complicated patient training often result in misuse and non-compliance that leads to increased pain, poor clinical outcomes, and repeat surgeries.
The productComprised of a strut powered by a lightweight motor and a control box placed on top of the circular, hexapod fixation frame, OrthoSpin’s smart system automatically and continuously adjusts and lengthens the struts according to the prescribed treatment regimen — without patient involvement.
Proprietary software program allows physicians to chart patient progress and easily change the treatment schedule.
● Highly accurate frame adjustments ● Reduced dependency on patient compliance ● Real-time feedback on progress ● Reduced revision surgeries

Tandem Technologies
7th Annual Trendlines Company Showcase Trendlines Medical
The needPolyps in the colon larger than 6 millimeters are usually removed using a wire loop (snare) that encircles and cuts the polyp. Due to polyp shape, size, and location, snares may not securely encircle and remove the entire polyp in a single step, leaving parts intact and increasing the risk of developing cancer. A second tool — a basket- or net-shaped retrieval device — is used to “catch” the resected polyp and remove it from the body. Locating and retrieving the resected polyp inside the long colon with its many bends and folds is challenging.
The productTandem Technologies has developed one device for precise polyp removal and retrieval. The Tandem Snare’s™ two wire loops work together to securely hold, precisely cut, and efficiently retrieve the polyp — all in one step. With the Company’s device, large polyps are removed in a single piece, reducing resections and increasing the retrieval rate.
● Simplifies the procedure and saves time ● Offers fast, precise placement of the snare’s loop on the polyp ● Enables complete polyp removal in one piece ● Improves pathology

The needPeri-implant disease is an irreversible, inflammatory condition that affects the soft and hard gum tissue around dental implants.
Current nonsurgical and surgical treatment options to stop the progression of bone loss and kill off the bacteria are only partially effective. Often the dentist must completely remove the implant and replace it with a new one.
The productZeev Implants’ unique dental implant is based on a modular design that consists of multiple sections (rings) that can easily connect or separate to achieve a customized length. When peri-implant disease develops, dentists can simply remove the bacteria-infected upper ring(s) of the implant and replace it with a new sterile ring(s).
● Prevents the need to extract the entire infected implant ● Gives dentists greater confidence ● Presents dental implant treatment as an option for patients
who may otherwise be rejected due to health risks such as diabetics and heavy smokers
