QUESTION 4 ANALYSIS

● 7th Grade ELA Students:

Fail: 63% Pass: 37%

● The correct response is B.

● B is correct because “intensely” means “very serious and using a

lot of strength and effort,” which is the same meaning as

“strenuously” in the context of the sentence. A is incorrect

because “conclusively” means “showing something is definitely

true.” C is incorrect because “exuberantly” means “full of

excitement and energy.” D is incorrect because “tentatively”

means “not definite or certain.”

QUESTION 12 ANALYSIS

● 7th Grade ELA Students:

Fail: 57% Pass: 43%

● The correct response is D.● D is correct; the paragraph explains how much work was put into building a

bridge that could “span the Straits” and link the “peninsulas of Michigan.” In

addition, the “two main towers” eventually tower above the water, but this

happens “slowly.” A is incorrect because the language in paragraph 4 does

not show that it took “far too long” to make the bridge because of the

caissons. B is incorrect because the language of the paragraph does not

indicate disorganization. C is incorrect because the language does not

indicate a “precise method.”
