She’s Come UndoneBy Wally Lamb
I had a really hard time getting into this book. I picked it up at the library before I knew how popular it was and couldn’t read more than the first few chapters.
How far I got: Less than 3 chaptersReason for quitting: Wasn’t feeling it
The Book ThiefBy Markus Zusak
I know, I know. EVERYONE loves this book and now it’s going to be a movie but I just couldn’t get used to the narrative style and had no desire to keep reading.
How far I got: Chapter 1Reason for quitting: Narrative Style
The Devil in the White CityBy Erik Larson
I actually finished this one but it was really difficult. I loved the H.H. Holmes parts but a lot of the history sections were soooooo dry and boring. I look back on this book more fondly now that it’s over.
How far I got: Finished
Mrs. DallowayBy Virginia Woolf
This classic was a bit much for me. I finished it because I felt like I had to but I really didn’t enjoy it. The story was all over the place and it drove me nuts!
How far I got: FinishedReason for quitting: Too scattered
The HelpBy Kathryn Stockett
This is one of those books with a narrative style that I just don’t like. First-person slang is not for me. I did, however, enjoy the movie (shame on me, I know!)How far I got: Chapter 2
Reason for quitting: Narrative style
RoomBy Emma Donoghue
Like The Help, this had a first-person narration that I don’t enjoy. I really tried to get into this one because I heard great things but I failed miserably. How far I got: Chapter 2-3

I really wanted to like this one. I really, really did. I was so excited to get it but just did not enjoy it and had to put it down about halfway through. How far I got: Halfway
Reason for quitting: Not interesting
The Shadow of the WindBy Carlos Ruiz Zafón
I was so excited about this book series and had every intention of reading all of them but it fizzled close to halfway through. I might pick it up again. How far I got: Halfway
Reason for quitting: Fizzling interest
