As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson Life has a way of throwing us curve balls. Just when we least expect it something happens to change the course of our lives and we are often left dismayed, distraught and bewildered. Mindfulness is another way of being. It is a way of paying attention to life exactly as it is in every moment. Living in the present moment connects us to our deepest selves. We develop a sense of clarity and calm within that keeps you firmly anchored no matter what. This quality of being is sometimes referred to as resilience. The MBSR programme has been scientifically proven to positively and often profoundly affect people’s ability to reduce medical symptoms and psychological distress while learning to live life with more acceptance, compassion, peace and joy. It will allow you to experience yourself, just as you are without judgement and as you learn to embed the practices and integrate them into your everyday life you learn to draw on your own inner resources to face whatever comes your way with a calm body, light heart, quiet mind and free spirit.

WEEK1:BeingAwakeInthisfirstsessionyouwillmeetthegroupgetanoverviewofthecourseanddeterminewhatyoumostwanttogetfromitandthepracticesthatwillgiveyouthat.Youwilllearnaboutthebasicpracticesofmindfulnessandhowtoapplytheminyourlife.Youwillbeintroducedtoafewsimplepracticesthatwillhelpyoutocomeoutofautomaticpilotmodeandbecomemorefullypresenttowhateverarisesinthemoment.WEEK2:WaysofSeeingAwarenessandperceptionarethekeystomindfulness.Howweseethingsdetermines,inalargepart,howwerespond.Inthisweek'ssessionyouwillbegintodiscoverthewayyouseetheworldandyournormalreactions.PracticingtheBodyScanandSittingMeditationsyouwillexplorehowtosimplybecuriousaboutyourexperiencesastheyarisewithoutanyneedtofixorchangethemandyouwillseethatbysimplychangingthewayyourelatetothingschangestheeffectsofstressonyourmindandbody.

WEEK3:AtHomeInOne’sBodyInthissession,you'llpracticethefundamentalmindfulnesspracticesMindfulMovement,SittingMeditation,andWalkingMeditation.Therewillalsobetimetoshareyourinsightsandyourexperienceswithintegratingmindfulnesspracticesintoyourdailylife.You’lldiscoverwhatachallengeitisforeveryonetobefullypresentandthepleasureandpowerthereiswhenyoucanenterfullyintothepresentmoment.Youwillalsoexploretheexperienceofpleasanteventsandtheirimpactonyourbody,mindandemotions.WEEK4:StressandMindfulnessThepracticeofMindfulnesscultivatescuriosity,compassionandopennesstothefullrangeofourexperiences.Thisweek,yourpracticewillfocusonthedevelopmentofyourabilitytoconcentrateandexpandyourfieldofawareness.You'lllearnaboutthephysiologicalandpsychologicalbasesofstressreactivity,andexperiencemindfulstrategiesforrespondinginpositive,proactivewaystostressfulsituations.WEEK5:ThoughtsandStressThisweekfocusesontheplaceswhereyoumightbestuckandyou’llbegintorecognisetheunhealthythoughtpatternsthatmaybeholdingyouback.Youwillalsolearnhowtoapplymindfulnessatthecriticalmomentwhenyouexperienceaphysicalsensation,intenseemotionorintrusivethoughtpayingparticularattentiontohowyoureactincertainsituationsandhowthateffectsyourstresslevels.WEEK6:BeingwithDifficultEmotionsThisweek,focusesonthewidevarietyandrangeofhumanemotionsandtheirpurpose.Throughmindfulnesspracticesyouwillexplorehowtocultivateemotionalintelligenceandresilienceanddevelophelpfulcopingstrategies.

WEEK7:MindfulCommunicationThissessionwillexplorethefundamentalsofrelationshipandlooksatwaysofapplyingmindfulcommunicationinchallenginginterpersonalsituationswhencommunicationhasbecomedifficultorfraughtwithstrongemotions.Thiswillbeafunsessionwhereyouwilldirectlyexperienceofavarietyofstylesformoreeffectiveandcreativeinterpersonalcommunication.WEEK8:TakingCareofOneselfToworkwellmindfulnessneedstobeanon-goingpractice.Inthissessionwewillrevieweverythingthathasbeenlearnedsofaranddiscussthemanywaysyoucanintegratemindfulnesssustainablyintoyourlife.You'lllearnhowtomaintainthedisciplineandflexibilityofdailypracticeascircumstanceschangeoverthecourseofyourlife.You'llalsolearnaboutresourcesandsupportsavailabletoyoutohelpyoucontinuetointegrate,learn,andgrow.ALL-DAYRETREAT–FoodfortheJourneyThisday-longguidedretreatwillbeawayofcompletingtheprogrammeandgettingtoknowothergraduatesofpreviousBambooLoft,MBSRprogrammes.Thisretreatisnormallyledinaspiritofcommunityandquiet,makingthebestofthebeautifulnaturalsurroundingsofGlenhordialFarm.Itisintendedtoassistyouinfirmlyembeddingallofthepracticesofthecoursesothatyoucandrawonthemfarbeyondtheconclusionoftheprogramme.ThehighlightofallofourMindfulnessRetreatsisthe‘BringandShare’lunchthatinvariablyturnsintoabanquetinbrightsunshine!
