Adjusting Drum Drag Brake for Free-Spooling When clutch is disengaged (Knob in OUTBOARD hole) the Drum Drag Brake should be up tight against the drum surface, enough to permit slow rotation of drum but at the same time preventing rapid rotation or "backlash" action. Adjust with 2 locknuts as shown .

Lubrication To keep your winch in peak operating condition, periodic greasing , is essential. Grease fittings are provided in 3 places as shown to keep the drum shaft properly lubricated. Also to assure smooth clutch operation, grease should be added to the shaft in the area where the clutch slides. Add grease every 60 days or more often, depending upon usage and environment.

INSTALLATION & APPLICATION Because of the wide range of applications and unlimited char
acteristics of particular vehicle designs, it is impossible to provide detailed installation procedures he·re. The PTO winch is available in 2 basic designs: the FRONT MOUNT (underslung) version, and the BASE MOUNT (pedestal) version. We have illustrated some TYPICAL vehicle applications showing both types. The winch is designed to utilize the vehicle transmission either directly or indirectly as the mechan·ical power source; however, in some applications, power is supplied hydraulically or even electrically. Whatever the particular installation, the winch is relatively easy to install with the most commonly used tools, hardware and methods.
OPERATION & MAINTENANCE CAUTION
Before attempting to use this winch, please observe the following precautions for SAF ETY reasons-and to prevent unnecessary damage to the equipment.
A. This winch is NOT intended for moving PEOPLE and must NEVER be used for such purposes.
B. This winch should NEVER be used for forces beyond its rated capacity. C. The winch is shipped WITHOUT 01 L - do NOT attempt to operate
the winch without making sure it has the proper amount of oil in the Worm Housing. (refer to PROPER OIL LEVEll.
Connecting Winch Cable extend at least 1"
/ "U" BOLT ......
('
WIND IN EVEN LAYERS
Unwind coil of cable by rolling it out along the floor (this will prevent kinking). Loosen "u" bolt and insert cable thru to extend at least 1". Tighten "u" Bolt.
NOTE: Cable can be wound either UNDER or OVER drum, depending upon usage.
Using hand tension, wind the cable onto the drum in even layers.
Operating Clutch To operate winch, engage clutch (with power OFF or in NEUTRAL) as follows:
Lift Knob on Shifter Fork and move toward INBOARD hole on Clutch Bracket. Rotate drum by hand as necessary to engage clutch dogs into drum. When clutch is properly engaged, Knob should lock into INBOARD hole.
To disengage, turn power drive OFF or in NEUTRAL and return Knob to OUTBOARD hole position.

Proper Oil Level Before operating the winch, oil must be added to Worm Housing to the level illustrated. A Fill Plug is located on the top of the housing for this purpose. Under normal climate conditions, 90 weight E.P. gear oil is recommended. For subfreezing operation, use a lighter viscosity. When re-installing plugs, apply fresh pipe dope to prevent leakage.
