Italian Prep News

Our prep students are learning about food in Italian through the story ‘Mangia, mangia’.

They listened to the story, repeated vocabulary and learnt some Italian expressions related to food:

After listening to the story for a few lessons, the students have recounted the story with pictures and Italian words.

Congratulations to Vitali, Maya, Holly, Shannon and Joshua for an excellent use of Italian words in their recount. BRAVISSIMI! OTTIMO LAVORO!

Maestra Elena, Italian teacher.

Grade 2 Sleepover

On Thursday the 16th of November the Grade 2s had a sleepover. The children had a great experience sleeping for one night at school. They participated in a variety of activities such as dancing, played games and watched a movie. They also enjoyed having pizza for dinner and breakfast with their peers and teachers.

The children also had the opportunity to be independent and responsible by setting up their own sleeping arrangements, brushing their teeth and also packing up all their belongings at the end of the sleep over. Thank you to all the Grade 2 teachers and volunteers for making this event successful and wonderful for all the children.

People think that making Lego EV3s are difficult. But after we tried it out ourselves we figured out that it was pretty easy.

On Tuesday the 14th of November our class participated in a Lego Mindstorms EV3 making. Miss Lad put us into groups of three and said that one person finds the parts while the other two build the robot. We first made the parts and them assembled it together. Lastly we put on main Brick and connected the wires. I was really excited to see it move but we ran out of time. We are going to put in the code for the robot next time we use the EV3s.

By Aarav

For the difficulty of making the Lego robots, it was simple, although some parts took more time to make than others. However, we also learnt other ways that the lego bricks and connectors could fit together.

We started by assembling the parts together. We made different sections of the robot and the wheels. Then, we put them together and connected the motors and wheels to the body of the robot. Lastly, we attached the code brick, and connected the wires on them to the motors, so they could run the wheels. The robot was completely assembled then.

Sporting News

Rebel Sports Equipment Rebate

Thank you to all our school community for continuing to purchase sporting goods at Rebel Sports in Point Cook town centre. Every time you buy something, the school gets a 5% rebate and then when

we have a bit raised we are able to purchase new equipment for P.E classes and Inter school sports teams. Keep up the great effort as it will continue to benefit our school in the future.

Regional Golf Championships

Well done to Krishan D who competed in the Regional Golf Championships at Medway golf course last Friday. He shot a score of 45 for 9 holes, which most of us would be proud of. However it wasn’t his best score for 9 and with the storms coming through that day, it was still a fantastic effort. He came 12th place out of 26 students who had qualified from other District events earlier in the year. The bonus for Krishan is he can try out again next year in Grade 6, having made the State Finals last year and Regionals this year. Keep up the great effort.

A reminder to families that Grade Prep Swimming commences this Monday, 27th November at Shawn’s Swim School in Hoppers Crossing. The Groupings will be as follows:

Group 1: (Prep JG -15 & 6 from Prep AF = 21) Leave school 10.05/10.10am, lesson 10.30 –11.15am, return 11.45/11.50am *(3 spots left in this group).

Group 2: (Prep SL – 16 & 5 from Prep AF = 21) Leave school 11.05/11.10am, lesson 11.30am –12.15pm, return 12.45/12.50pm *(3 spots left in this group).

Group 3: (Prep MT – 9 & Prep TC – 15 = 24) Leave school 12.05/12.10pm, lesson 12.30 –1.15pm, return 1.45/1.50pm *(Group is full).

Group 4: (Prep KS – 16 & Prep SP – 8 = 24) Leave school 1.05/1.10pm, lesson 1.30–2.15pm, return 2.45/2.50pm *(Group is full).

There are still 3 spots left in Group 1 and Group 2. If you are interested (even if from another class), please see Yvonne Golomb at the office and she will let you know what is still available). Groups 3 and 4 are full.

Final payments are due by this Monday 27th (1st session), so the office doesn’t have to chase up money throughout the program. An information note will come home Wednesday about venue details, what to bring etc..
