Dear Parents and Guardians,
CHINESE NEW YEARBest wishes to all our families celebrating the Chinese New Year.
BIKES HELMETSWe encourage children from grades 3-6 to ride to school and younger children to be accompanied by an adult. Parents, can you please ensure your child wears their safety helmet and are familiar with the safest route to school? We stress to the children the importance of walking their bike or scooter in the school grounds and would be grateful if this is supported by parents.
USING THE SUPERVISED CROSSINGWe would like to remind parents of the importance of modeling safe walking practices by using the school patrolled or pedestrian crossings. Parents and children darting across busy Point Cook Road can be very distressing for drivers and sends a poor message to children about crossing the road safely. Fred and Angie are there daily at the crossing to support all our community when crossing the road.
SKOOLBAG IS BEING PHASED OUT, LAST DAY IS THURSDAY 28TH OF FEBURARYPlease note that at the end of this month the Seabrook Skoolbag App will be phased out as we streamline our communication methods. Parents will be able to access information through the parent portal www.seabrook-ps.xuno.com.au More information in this edition of the newsletter and in further editions to come.

HELPING AT SCHOOL AND WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKSWe value the time our parents offer to work in classrooms and when attending excursions and camps. All parent helpers are required by law to have a current Working With Children Check. Now is a good time to apply for one so that you can work in the classroom or with the class. These can be completed on-line or forms can be collected from the post office visit www.working-withchildren.vic.gov.au for more details. Please provide a copy of your wwcc to the office.
TEACHERS’ PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE DAYS The department believes the most important thing they can do to improve student learning outcomes is to develop and improve the skills of teachers. The department commenced last year with an initiative to provide professional development opportunities for teachers in order to support the learning and development of students. Each teacher will each spend four days per year, one per term to further develop their skills in areas that are aligned to our school priorities. Students will directly benefit from these improvements in their daily learning. The professional practice days are an opportunity for teachers to work collaboratively to improve their teaching practice. The days are being scheduled ahead of time to ensure there is minimal impact and a learning program in place to ensure education continues as usual in the classroom. Our regular relief teachers, many of whom are Seabrook teachers will be engaged for the day to take the class and will follow the normal school daily program.
SCHOOL UNIFORM Seabrook children have a formal school uniform which should be worn every day. We are insisting on children wearing the correct school uniform. Please note navy stockings or white socks are preferred for girls. Some
children are coming to school in black stockings. This is not the correct colour. Some children are wearing white polo shirts that are not our uniform, instead they should be wearing a white cotton short or long-sleeved shirt. Some older children are sometimes not choosing to wear their jumper to school, wearing different coloured jackets instead. These items are weekend wear and they will be asked to wear their school clothes.
Our uniform is available from Noone Imagewear in Hoppers Crossing who will help fit out your child correctly. Don’t forget our second hand uniform shop too. This has a great variety of pre-worn school uniform items very reasonably priced. The shop is operated by volunteers every Monday morning to drop off school items for sale from 9am – 9:30am and then open for purchasing every Thursday from 2.30pm – 3:30pm. Clearly labeling your child’s clothes is a great way for your child and staff to identify any clothes when misplaced.

PARENTS TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS Please be respectful of people’s privacy. When your child is performing at assemblies or at other school events we understand you are keen to take their photos for memories or to show other family members. Out of respect we ask that pho-tos that contain images of other children are not up-loaded to social media or other web-based programs without first consulting their parents. Photos can easily be cropped and this can save any worry for other parents.
MEDICATION If, at any time, your child must take any medication at school please make sure it is brought to the office with the Medical Authority form available on our website under the forms tab. We ask that whenever possible, medication is taken just before school or immediately after, to avoid medications being brought to school unnecessarily.
REBEL SPORT POINT COOK IS ONCE AGAIN OFFERING VOUCHERS TO SCHOOLS
Our PE department can redeem vouchers forwarded to the school when families choose to link their purchases with the school. New equipment has been purchased following the recent holiday period. Thanks to our parents who shop at the branch of Rebel Sport, Point Cook Town Centre. We look forward to further vouchers becoming available across the year helping us to replace old and lost sports equipment.
Have a great week ahead. Sue & Staff

LEARNING WITH CONFIDENCE
Social networking is a large part of the social identity of young people. They are avid users of a range of social networking services including Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter.
Many kids also network through playing online games like Club Penguin, Moshi Monsters and World of Warcraft.
All of these services provide fun and engaging ways to:• stay connected and interact with friends and
family• post information and updates about them-
selves and their activities• share photos and videos• chat and play games• comment on other people’s photos, posts
and profiles.
It can be difficult to resist the ‘pester power’ of your kids when it comes to allowing them to engage on social media, especially when their friends may be allowed. There is a risk they may feel alienated, but ultimately you know your child best and whether they can handle the responsi-bilities and pressures of being on social media.

I like the book ‘How Cool is This’ because it has information about how lava lamps, crash helmets, rocket chairs, sky lanterns, crystals and biometrics work. To me, this book is very interesting and also other people who have already read it! – Jett
I would recommend this book ‘Flood and Monsoon Alert!’ because it shows you really cool pictures of floods all around the world. It tells you about how floods begin, different types of floods and things that help stop floods. At the end of the book there is a really cool science experiment. It’s called ‘The Recipe for Disaster!’ Those are some reasons why I’d recommend this book for you. – Kiani
I recommend ‘Twighlight’ because it takes you on an adventure. It is a mature book to read and it is about a girl who goes to a town called Forks. This book is a horror story. – Brianna
I recommend this booked called ‘Demon Dentist’ because the story and chapters will keep you entertained. When I started to read ‘Demon Dentist’ I felt like it was too long but now I know it’s just right. – Jared
The book ‘Tom Gates: Extra Special Treats’ is about a family who eats chocolate raisins. Tom Gates is very intelligent and a chocolate finder and his father has so many chocolates. – Enric
I like the book ‘Big Nate I Can’t Take It’ because when you start reading it you never want to stop. The book is really long – 220 pages! – Dimitar
I recommend this book ‘Tom Gates Dog Zombies Rule (for now)’ because it has funny characters like Mark. He is nosey and annoying. – Paige
I like ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ and the Harry Potter books because the more you read it, the more interesting it gets. I also like it because it has a lot of magic and I think magic is cool. – Adem
I recommend this book ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid – The Last Straw’ and the series by Jeff Kinney because he is a nice author and I love all of his books. When I read his books I just get a blast of interest and that is one of the reasons I like to read. – Wyld Jasper
I recommend this book ‘Tom Gates: Genius Ideas (mostly)’ because I like that it’s funny and this book makes me happy when I read it. – Zach

Can You Help?
Parent Helper Wanted - Help needed
We have a student in Year Three who is learning English. We would like some parent volunteers who could spend about 10 -15 minutes helping him to read a couple of known books and to revise sight words, e.g. around 9 am after you drop your child off or at 3pm before you pick your child up.
Please see Mrs O’Connor if you are able to help.
This would be much appreciated.

Well done to the 62 students who banked last week including the three new students who have joined our school banking program.
Parent packs were distributed to all students last week containing information about school banking and the rewards card for 2019. Term 1 rewards: Scented stackable highlighters and Snowy origami set. Rewards can be redeemed for 10 silver tokens. One token is issued for each deposit made via school banking.
School banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. For every 10 deposits made per student our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 from the Commonwealth Bank. This is in addition to an Annual Contribution payment based on the total number of students who made at least one deposit through school banking during the previous year.
Participating in school banking is easy. If your child already has a Dollarmite/Youthsaver Account with the Commonwealth Bank all you need to do is start sending their completed deposit book with the yellow wallet each week. Refer to the parent pack for further information about opening a Youthsaver Account.
