INTRODUCTION

The Leo d'Or c l a i m was staked aver a marble d e p o s i t i n the n o r t h e r n p o r t i o n of Uancouver I s l a n d . The d e p o s i t i s l o c a t e d on the n o r t h e a s t e r n shore of Bonanza Lake and i s a c c e s s a b l e d i r e c t l e y by road 37km south of P o r t McNeil v i a Kokish.

Marble d e p o s i t s i n the area were f i r s t s taked as the P e r s i a n Cat 1 and P e r s i a n Cat 11 f o l l o w i n g t h e i r d i s c o v e r y . b y M.S. Madari i n June Df 1SB1. The marble u n i t has been g e o l o g i c a l y mapped as c r y s t a l i n e limestone, but as of t h i s s t a k i n g , the p o t e n t i a l of an economic d e p o s i t of marble was unreckognized. The Leo d'Or c l a i m s were l o c a t e d 2km south of the P e r s i a n Cat c l a i m s i n June of 1S85.

The l e g a l c o r n e r post i s l o c a t e d about 50m up-slope from the l a k e on the e a s t s h o l d e r of the road. T h i s road heads almost due south along the c l a i m boundary SOOm bef o r e c u t t i n g d i agonaly a c r o s s the south-western p o r t i o n of the c l a i m b l a c k , f a l l o w i n g the lake share. From the road, the h i l l r i s e s q u i t e s t e e p l y t o the n o r t h - e a s t , l e v e l i n g o f f at between 2500 and 3000 f t . The lower p o r t i o n s of the s l o p e have been logged and burned i n the p a s t . There, i s good exposure, approaching B0^, of outcrop on the property i n t h i s r e g i o n . Those r e g i o n s l y i n g f a r t h e r up the s l o p e are h e a v i l y t r e e d and a l l outcrops are covered by moss.

The marble from t h i s s i t e seams to be of good t a h i g h q u a l i t y upon i n i t i a l i n v e s t i g a t i o n s by Mr. Madari. Cut s e c t i o n s r e p r i s s e n t e d as coming from the s i t e have been•shown with q u i t e f a v o u r a b l e reviews to s e v e r a l marble supply houses i n the lower mainland. Of p a r t i c u l a r i n t e r e s t i s the massive nature of the d e p o s i t . T y p i c a l l y , marble found i n B r i t i s h Columbia tends t a be extremely broken and f r a c t u r e d , being of use only i n p a r t i c u l a t e form. The marble found on the Leo d'Or c l a i m s i s very massive and c o u l d be cut i n t o l a r g e b l a c k s f a r use as d e c o r a t i v e or b u i l d i n g m a t e r i a l . As of t h i s time, the f u l l economic p o t e n t i a l of the property i s unknown.

INITIAL REC0NAI55ANCE OF THE LED D'OR CLAIMS

H a v i l a h Gold Mines L t d was approached by Mr. Madari, the owner of the Lea d'Or c l a i m s i n A p r i l c f 1SB7. A f t e r viewing cut samples from the property, i t was decided t o make a quick t r i p t o the p r o p e r t y t a bath v e r i f y the e x i s t a n c e a f the d e p o s i t and to a c q u i r e a f e e l f o r the land i n terms of a f u t u r e program of assesment. As per s u g e s t i a n s from Mr. Madari as t a the p o s s i b i l i t y of road axcess t a the tap of the property, a four-wheel d r i v e v e h i c l e was r e n t e d . Dn A p r i l 23, Mr. Madari and myself t r a v e l l e d to P a r t McNeil, s t o p p i n g a t the mining r e c o r d e r s o f f i c e s i n Nanaima, B.C., f o r r e l e v a n t documents.

Mr. Madari took me t a the property on A p r i l 24. There was no raad access t a the upper reaches of the p r o p e r t y . I made s e v e r a l i n v e s t i g a i o n s i n t o the ground from the road l e v e l . The f i r s t confirmed t h a t the marble was indeed as s t a t e d . The marie tends t o be a l i g h t t a darker grey i n c o l o u r . Near the road, i t was of f i n e r g r a i n s i z e , t r e n d i n g t o a c o a r s e r g r a i n towards the e a s t e r n boundary of the c l a i m . I t was noted t h a t a high percentage of the outcrop was very massive, showing l i t t l e s i g n s of f a u l t i n g or f r a c t u r i n g . The marble seams t o be q u i t e weathered on s u r f a c e . I t i s very d i f f i c u l t t o o b t a i n f r e s h samples due to the massive nature of the outcrop not p r e s e n t i n g any breakable s u r f a c e s f a r a hammer. Those s u r f a c e s thus presented tend t o be q u i t e narrow, and are t h e r e f o r e weathered from bath s i d e s , thus p r e v e n t i n g a q u i s i t i a n of any unweathered s u r f a c e s Fresh samples of f r a c t u r e d rack were obtaine d from c u t s along the road from the raad c o n s t r u c t i o n . These gave goad i n d i c a t i o n of c o l o u r and g r a i n s i z e but they tended to be q u i t e f r a c t u r e d , mast l i k e l y due t a b l a s t i n g .

A t r a v e r s e a c r o s s the south e a s t c o r n e r of the p r o p e r t y was made i n order t o t e s t the p o s s i b i l i t y of a l t e r n a t e m i n e r a l i z a t i o n on the s i t e . T h i s t r a v e r s e was i n i t i a l l y thought t o be wholly on the p r o p e r t y , but l a t e r a n a l y s i s a f maps and a i r p h o t a s not a v a i l a b l e a t the time confirms t h a t indeed t h i s t r a v e s e s only c r o s s e d the corner of the p r o p e r t y . I t has been found t h a t the a c t u a l l o c a t i o n of the l e g a l c o r n e r post i s not as p l a t t e d on the c l a i m maps, but about 300m n o r t h of t h a t l o c a t i o n . My t r a v e r s e took me up a draw and over the h e i g h t s of l a n d b e f o r e desending back along a p a r r e l l e l draw. I encountered marble along the e n t i r e t r a v e r s e . S e v e r a l dykes were encountered i n t h i s marble. About h a l f way up the s l o p e a major dyke or s i l l of a f e l s i c v o l c a n i c type rock with minor qu a r t z phenacrysts was encountered s t r i k i n g 300-120 and d i p p i n g BOO t o the south west. Above t h i s u n i t was more marble af a much darker grey i n c o l o u r and having a much l a r g e r g r a i n s i z e , i n the order of 1 t a 3 mm a c r o s s . Across the tap and dawn the s l o p e t a the east about 200m was more of

the same course g r a i n e d dark grey c r y s t a l i z e d limestone CmarbleD. Apart From minor F r a c t u r e F i l l i n g p y r i t e s i d e n t i F i e d i n two s m a l l dykes i n the south west oF the c l a i m , no m i n e r a l i z a t i o n was encountered. No samples have been submitted For assay.

Another reconnaisance oF the property has s i n c e taken p l a c e i n the company oF Mr. Ande Rychter, a c o n s u l t a n t under c o n t r a c t t o H a v i l a h Gold. H i s r e p o r t on t h i s second v i s i t F a l l o w s .
