am delighted to be welcoming you all to the Sedbergh Super Tens tournament, now in its 22nd year.

Along with returning friends, many of whom we have had the pleasure of hosting regularly since the inaugural year, we extend a very warm welcome to Seaford and St Peter’s York in 2018.

As ever, we are all extremely grateful for the support of the Army and our particular thanks go to Lt Colonel S L Humphris MBE, Commanding Officer, 2nd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment and Captain James Jenkins and the Yorkshire Regiment Recruiting Team.

We also offer our thanks to the RFU for their superb team of high calibre referees, and to our entertaining commentator Graeme Marrs MBE.

This tournament is eagerly anticipated every year and we are always impressed by the outstanding level of skill and gamesmanship on display. For many players, this is their last school boy fixture, and one that will hold fond memories for years to come.

I very much look forward to seeing you all on Buskholme.

With all best wishes,

Andrew FleckHeadmaster

The best sporting regiment in the British Army

Supported by

Yorkshire Regiment officers with just a few of the sporting trophies won in 2016/17.

‘We are the best sporting regiment in the British Army and we combine it with being a first class front line fighting regiment. All our officers and men are team players and enjoy sport at all levels. The Regiment currently has four players in the Army XV. Our sporting history and our rugby prowess in particular stretch back to 1877 and the first days of Army rugby. In those early days the 13-a-side game was played in all the schools in Yorkshire ensuring a steady stream of talented rugby playing soldiers into the Regiment. This in turn attracted officers from across the country and overseas who could identify with the ethos and values of the Regiment. The Yorkshire Regiment and before it the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment has become synonymous with Army rugby, winning the Army Cup 14 times, more than any other regiment. Eleven members of the

Regiment have gained international honours and three have represented the British Lions. The Yorkshire Regiment also offers opportunities in many other sports including skiing, sailing, football, fencing, cycling, boxing and much more besides. There is also the opportunity to follow interests in adventure training around the world. Whether you are training in Cyprus, scuba diving in the Mediterranean, skiing in the Alps or running a marathon in the USA adventure is all part of the job. For those who might like to find out more about the opportunities to lead ‘Yorkshire Warriors’ and play sport including quality rugby in The Yorkshire Regiment please take the time to talk to the representatives from the Regiment who are here today.’

COMPETITION RULES1. All players must have been under 18 years old and at least Year 11 age, ie 15 years or older, on 1 September 2017.

2. Each squad to comprise 17 players, of whom six should be conversant with front-row play to cover these areas in case of injury.

3. RFU Youth Laws apply with the following exceptions: i) The scrummaging to be formed by five players in the conventional front five formation ii) The scrum-half cannot pass the mid-point at the scrummage on his opponent’s put-in, ie he cannot follow his opposite number around the base iii) The locks cannot break with the ball from the scrum.

4. All conversions are to be drop kicks.

5. Normal seven-a-side rules apply at kick-offs, ie the team scoring to kick off.

6. Rolling replacements are allowed. Please inform the referee of these changes.

7. Duration of the game is 11 minutes each way on Day 1 and 12 minutes on Day 2. There will be a two minute interval between halves.

8. Team Colours: if the referee decides there is a colour clash, the team named first in the programme is obliged to change.

9. Group Matches: 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw. The Group Winner will be the team with the most league points. If these are equal then the positions will be decided by:

i) Head to Head result ii) The team with the larger points difference iii) Tries scored iiii) The toss of a coin.

10. In the Final: if the scores are equal at full time then two periods of six minutes each way will be played. The first score during extra time will decide the winner. If there are no further scores the Trophy will be deservedly shared.

11. The Tournament Referee reserves the right to give the final judgement on the Competition Rules.

12. In the event of a sending-off, the player is not allowed to play for the remainder of that day and, subject to the Referee’s report to the Tournament Director, may be banned from the entire Tournament. A sending-off is signalled by a red card or two yellow cards in the same game. Players sent off may not be replaced for that game, but sides may start new games with a full ten players. The use of Temporary Suspension (sin binning) indicated by a yellow card will be implemented. The player must leave the field for four minutes and stand behind the opposition’s posts.
