Owatonna Summer Events Make a Economic ImpactMost locals would agree that summer goes by too fast in Minnesota. With all the jam-packed summer events going on in Owatonna, it’s no wonder it felt so fast. Whether it was a sporting event, like Corky’s Early Bird Softball Tournament or a bike race to raise money for Bike Multiple Sclerosis they both offered a host of economic and social benefi ts to our community. Tourism brings communities together and instills a sense of pride and community. The Steele Country Free Fair is a perfect example of fostering community pride. All these events that took place this summer not only made our community stronger, it contributed economic growth for our region as well.According to Explore Minnesota Tourism, the average per person, per day spending for day travelers is $52. It jumps to $89 for overnight travelers, not including lodging. Overnight visitors also provide a source of off-site revenue when they stop at local shops, gas stations and restaurants. Here is a breakdown of a few top events that helped to boost our economy.

TOURISM Update | Karen Pehrson, Director of Conventions and Tourism
