Writing Task 1 Option AYour first task is to read the traditional fairy tale ‘The Three Little Pigs’! You may have this book at home, if not then use the links above to have the story read to you.

Before you start reading/listening to this fairy tale, discuss with a parent or sibling about any other Fairy Tales that you know of? The Three Billy Goats Gruff is an example of a great Fairy Tale! Once you have thought of some, think about these questions:

- What do the Fairy Tales have in common? - Do they both have a villain (a naughty/bad person)?

Here is your task!

When reading/listening to the story, you are going to write down the main events that happened! This is going to help you in a minute! Here is a hint – there are 6 main events that happened!

Parents, look at the Task 1 Option B for the 6 main events, just be aware that they are not in order. In the attached documents for today is a planning sheet to help you plan out what happens in the story.

Now you are going to draw a story map (S plan), with the main events that happened in the story. Add a couple of words for each picture so you know what the picture is telling you. Keep this story map for later in the week.

Writing Task 1 – Option B

You are going to listen/read the Fairy Tale Story ‘The Three Little Pigs’.

Page 2: 8.6NEW...  · Web viewWhat happens to the first 2 pigs? How do the pigs feel in their house at first? Again, edit your work and use the tick list. Checklist. Tick. Capital letters.

In the resources for this week, is a worksheet for you. After reading this story, you are going to put the story into chronological (beginning to end) order. Underneath each picture, you are going to write a few words or a sentence (if you want to challenge yourself) to go with the photo. Remember to use capital letters and full stops! Keep this for later on this week.

Writing Task 2 – Option A and Option B A few questions to answer before today’s tasks!

- What did you like about the story? Explain why.- What did you not like about the story? Explain Why

Now you are going to choose a character from the fairy tale! You can choose either:

- The Three Little Pigs, or- The Big Bad Wolf!!!

You are now going to compare the two characters and talk about their characteristics (this is a feature or quality belonging to yourself which identifies you as a person)

Below are two pictures; A little pig and a big bad wolf!

In and around both of the pictures, I want you to think about words to describe what they are like. This is called their personality. Also, I want you to think about words to describe what they look like. This is called their appearance. Choose two colour pens to write your words.

Writing Task 3 Over the next 3 days we are going to build up to write the story ourselves. We will do a section each day to produce our best thoughtful writing. Maybe you could put several pages together to make your book. Today is the beginning of the story. You are going to need the story map you made Monday or the story sequencing you put together!

Answer these two questions before today’s task!- What can you remember about the story? - What is your favourite part from ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and why?

Now can you retell the story using your story map as a prompt. Remember to think about expressions to make your story more interesting.

You are now going to look at your plan and discuss what happened at the beginning only. Using your plan and the character descriptions from yesterday you are going to write sentences about the beginning in the story.

Expectations for your child’s writing:- All children must write three sentences that make sense and have a capital

letter and a full stop. Spell words phonetically correct. - Most children – Use ‘and’ to form a compound sentence. Proof read their work,

checking year 1 spellings. - Some children – Think about how they want to make their reader feel and add

an adjective to achieve it and make it more powerful.

Here are some questions to help you write your sentences.

- Who are the main characters?- Where is the beginning of the story taking place?- How do you think the pigs are feeling?

Page 5: 8.6NEW...  · Web viewWhat happens to the first 2 pigs? How do the pigs feel in their house at first? Again, edit your work and use the tick list. Checklist. Tick. Capital letters.

- Who do the pigs meet?

In the resources for this week, there is a word bank to help you when writing your sentences. If you can, remember to use adjectives, these are your describing words, when writing your sentences. The sentences can be phonetically plausible so do not worry if some words are not spelt correctly. Now check through your work and see if you have included the skills in the tick list.

Writing Task 4 , Look through your story starter writing from yesterday. Today we are going to write the middle section. You are going to write at least three sentences again. The sentences can be phonetically plausible so do not worry if words are not spelt correctly.

- What materials do they use?- What happens to the first 2 pigs?- How do the pigs feel in their house at first?-

Again, edit your work and use the tick list.

Writing Task 5 Look through your story starter writing from yesterday. Today we are going to write the end section. You are going to write at least three sentences again. The sentences can be phonetically plausible so do not worry if words are not spelt correctly.

Use these questions to help you with the task- Why does the Wolf like to blow their houses down?- What happens to the third house?- How does the wolf feel now?- What happens next?
