8 th November 2019 (9) Dear Parents and Carers, Product Design Week Year 5 children have had a really exciting week taking part in a design and technology and enterprise/food project. The children had to work together in a group and put together a list of questions to ask the client, about what they would like in their pasta. They then interviewed their client, which I was lucky enough to be part of, for 3 groups! Each group then worked in their class looking at packaging, costs and ingredients for their pasta dish. I would like to thank Dee and Martin who supported every group making their pasta dishes. I would like to thank all the parents/carers who went out and bought the ingredients, as each pasta dish I tasted was delicious! It was great to see the children pitching their product to the staff and Year 5, which they all did confidently. Well done to the Year 5 staff and children! Finance Cabinet- Book Sale The book sale and stationery shop has been a huge success. We are very grateful for all your donations. We had a fantastic range of books available for all children to buy. Children also had the opportunity to purchase stationary. Please remember stationary is always available to purchase from the school office. Cabinet members assisted throughout the day, serving customers, counting money and working out what change was required. There were a few children who did not bring in their £1 and the Finance Cabinet decided we did not want any children to go without, so we have allowed those children to choose a book. We would appreciate it if you could send your £1 donation into the school office. We are all looking forward to our next cabinet meeting, where we shall be counting money! Parent/Carer Consultations Tuesday 19th November and Thursday 21st November 2019
School will be open for parents/carers to see their child's classteacher on Tuesday 19th November between 4pm and 6.30pm, and on Thursday 21st November between 6pm-8.30pm. ParentMail, our online service for arranging appointments will be available from Saturday 9th November until Saturday 16th November to book an appointment. Please log on to your ParentMail account, click on Parents Evening and select your choice of time. Only one appointment is allocated per child. The duration of the consultation is 10 minutes and will take place in your child's classroom. If you are having difficulty in connecting to your ParentMail account or if you require more than one appointment, please advise the school office.

Should you wish to discuss a specific concern, the SEN Team will also be available for parent consultation appointments on these days. Please phone the office to make an appointment or, alternatively, there is a clipboard at the main office for you to sign up for an appointment.
Year 1 Reading Presentations We would like to thank all parents/carers who attended the Year 1 reading presentations in school this week. We hope you found the sessions useful to support your child at home with the reading strategies that were shared. Reception Story Café Each Reception class had their Phonics Cafe last week! The teachers taught a phonics lesson after Mrs Towli, Mrs Gaughran, Miss Cookson and Ms Jones talked about phonics and how reading and writing are taught in Reception at Eversley. The children did very well in showing just how well they learn, well done! After the Phonics lesson the children, along with their parents/carers took part in lots of different Funky Fingers and graphics activities. 1F Story Café This week was 1F's turn to have their Story Cafe. The parents and children had lots of fun reading Room on the Broom and making some potions together. There were lots of very funny and interesting ideas from the children! Thank you to everybody who was able to attend.

Year 4 Forest School This week Year 4 requested to make fireworks, build bonfires and toast marshmallows. Although we didn’t make fireworks, the children did build a fantastic bonfire, experimented with adding copper sulphate to the flames and observing the chemical reaction that took place.
We all had great fun learning about the history of November 5th and the traditions associated. Many children made a stickman Guy Fawkes by learning how to tie a clove hitch and join using square lashing. True to tradition, the children set fire to their guys. Year 4 were also introduced to whittling and learnt how to safely sharpen sticks to toast their marshmallows. What a great week Year 4! More adventures to come next week. Children in Need This year Children in Need is on Friday 15th November. In order to raise money for this national event, we will be having a non-uniform day. Children, and staff, will be asked to come in wearing anything spotty and colourful. A minimum donation of £1 will be collected by the class teachers and the class who brings in the most money will win a Pudsey Bear for their class. Many thanks for your continued support.

Anti-bullying week 2019 Next week is national anti-bullying week and the theme is 'Change Starts With Us'. As part of this, Eversley Primary School will be taking part in Odd Socks Day on Tuesday 12th November. The day is an opportunity to encourage people to express themselves and
celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique! All we have to do is have as many people as possible wearing odd socks for the day. In addition to odd socks day, we will be holding assemblies based around anti-bullying next week and throughout the following weeks. Our main anti-bullying focus will be on Thursday 21st, Friday 22nd and Monday 25th November when we have visitors coming in to hold workshops with all classes in years 1-6. The children will also take part in activities in class linked to the workshops. We are very much looking forward to these workshops and will be updating you with photos! Eco Warrior! As head of our Eversley environment cabinet, I would like to say a very big thank you to Maya Jani (5B) for helping make our local area a cleaner place to be. During her daily walk to school, Maya and her mum collect rubbish from the roads and pavements surrounding our school grounds. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed. A job very well done, thank you!

The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre are hosting a Festive Fun Walk to raise funds for The Nightingale on Saturday 7th December at Trent Park, Cockfosters.
The 5km walk is suitable for all ages to take part. Alongside exercise and raising funds for The Nightingale, they will have carol singers, Christmas crafts for children, plus a seasonal scavenger hunt around the 5km walk for Children to take part in.
