ducation E Thursday, October 7, 2010 The Brownsville States-Graphic page 9 The Haywood County Schools District Office staff created this Scarecrow entry for the annual contest on the courthouse lawn and did it with ingenuity, representative of the entire school system. It was made completely with recycled materials – no new items were purchased for the bus or the scarecrow “riders.” The bus is a recycled shelf, desk and paneling, and the scarecrows were each made of used materials. There are scarecrow students representing each school, and the bus driver is representing the dedicated drivers of Haywood County Schools. INSOUTH Money Bee visits East Side students Anderson Early Childhood Center was host for the School Board Lunch/Visit in late September. Following their meal, students visited to share some of what they are learning. In music class, Kindergarteners are writing their own songs! They are composing lyrics using their sight words from class and making them rhyme. They color code the words to different keys on the piano and when they are finished, they sing the song using their own lyrics. Kindergarteners in Mrs. Nicole Henderson’s class have been learning an Alphabet rap in which they sing the name of the letter, then the sound that that letter makes, then something about the letter. Preschoolers in Mrs. Sami Jo Gore’s class have been studying shapes and colors. They made houses and other designs with their different colored shapes. These students enjoyed telling about their creations to our visitors. These are just a few of the many things students are doing at Anderson. Visitors are welcome! Pictured with the students are school board members Harold Garrett, Robbie Jarrett-King and Pearlie Hess and Deputy Superintendent Teresa Russell. We love fall here at your local library! Why? Because we can’t resist “falling” into a great book to read! We are going to have a great month here at the library. Here below is our schedule. Toddler Time is scheduled for the first and third Monday of each month at 11 a.m. We offer stories, crafts, and a light snack. All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to come have fun with us for Toddler Time at the Library. Toddler Time for October is Monday October 18. Lunch & Learn is scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of each month. We have a variety of speakers to come and visit with us. Lunch & Learn for October will be offered Wednesday, October 27 at noon in the meeting room. Our guest speaker for the month is in the process of being confirmed. Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert. The Friends of the Library Book Sale is continuing for the month of October. Come and check out our great selections of books and other materials. The proceeds from the sale of these items goes to the Friends of the Library who, in turn, help the library acquire new materials for you to enjoy. It is a win-win situation! Since school is fully geared-up, we want to remind everyone about TEL. The Tennessee Electronic Library is a wonderful resource for all your research needs. TEL offers not only the databases for research, but newspaper archives, a testing center, and genealogy research. All at the touch of a button. This service is available to all residents of Brownsville and Haywood County and is absolutely FREE! It is provided through the Tennessee State Library and Archives. Ask us about TEL today! It’s fall! We love it!! We love fall here at your local library! Why? Because we can’t resist “falling” into a great book to read! We are going to have a great month here at the library. Here below is our schedule.
