This is National 911 Telecommunicator WeekEach year, the second full week in April is dedicated to the men and women who
serve as Public Safety Telecommunicators. National Telecommunicator Week bringscelebration and honor to the otherwise unsung hero on the other end of the line. The911 dispatcher is the true first, first responder!
Anson County kicked off the week with an appreciation cookout for the Telecommu-nicators and their families. They enjoyed a meal of grilled chicken which was providedand prepared by Med Northcutt along with homemade sides and desserts. The em-ployees enjoyed a time of good food and fellowship with their co-workers and families.
Anson County 911 Telecommunicators work 12 hour shifts, two Telecommunicatorsper shift. They dispatch all emergency calls for the Sheriff’s Office, 4 municipal policedepartments, EMS, Rescue, 8 volunteer fire departments, and NC Forestry.
Anson County telecommunicators include Holly Thomas (Director), Tammy McCall(Asst. Director), Elizabeth Brown, Ashley Ratliff, Monique Johnson, Mary Crawford, Jen-nifer Stovall, Sonia Gabriel, Kristi Rogers, Ashlie Jones, Ginger Phillips, Tammy Gath-ings, JaPrichia Smith, LaShonda Spencer, Victoria Leak-Williams and Jessica Terry.
Thank you to all of the dispatchers who work long shifts and serve to provide a lifelineto those in need! If you see a Telecommunicator this week please be sure to tell themthank you for the job they do in serving our community.
Fined for Not Having Health Insurance? Time is Running Out to Get Covered
Through the Affordable Care ActHealth care navigators can help consumers sign up for insurance coverageif they are subject to a fine or experienced a qualifying life event
The February 15 deadline to sign up for health insurance through the Affordable CareAct has passed, but Legal Aid of North Carolina’s health care navigators can still helpmany uninsured or underinsured North Carolinians get quality, affordable health cover-age during special enrollment periods.
North Carolinians subject to a fine on their 2014 taxes for not having health insurancemight still be eligible to enroll in an affordable plan during a special enrollment periodthat runs through April 30. To be eligible, consumers must confirm that they are subjectto the fine and were previously unaware of it.
Legal Aid of North Carolina’s health care navigators are available for one-on-onemeetings with consumers across the state to help them avoid the fine by enrolling in anaffordable health insurance plan. “We want all North Carolinians subject to the fine toknow that we have navigators in their area who can help them,” said Jennifer Simmons, director of Legal Aid’s navigator project. “They can still get quality, affordable healthcoverage now. We are encouraging them to check out their options before the April30 deadline. Time is running out!”
North Carolinians may also qualify for a special enrollment period if they experienceda qualifying life event, such as losing coverage, getting married, having a baby, movingto a different coverage area and becoming a citizen, among others.
Consumers who enroll in health coverage during a special enrollment period are eli-gible to receive financial assistance to lower their premiums. Last enrollment period,92 percent of North Carolinians who renewed plans or signed up through the Market-place received financial assistance to help make their plans truly affordable.
North Carolinians who think they might be eligible to enroll during a special enroll-ment period can schedule appointments with health care navigators by calling toll-free1-855-733-3711 or visiting the Get Covered Connector, at www.connector.getcov-eredamerica.org. To find out if they have experienced a qualifying life event, they canvisit the HHS screener (www.healthcare.gov/screener) and answer a few questions.
Legal Aid of North Carolina is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legalservices in civil matters to low-income people in order to ensure equal access to justiceand remove legal barriers to economic opportunity. To learn more, visitwww.legalaidnc.org or Facebook and Twitter.
