Cleaning Products
Basic Cleaning products that every home should have: Glass cleaner Grease cutting liquid Mild abrasive powder Disinfectant: cleaning agent that destroys
bacteria
Basic Cleaning Rules
1. Check to see if your products can be used for more than one purpose.
2. Check labels to see if toxic, poisonous, or flammable
3. Check to see if product will harm a surface. Not all products are safe for all surfaces
4. Follow directions of the product 5. NEVER MIX PRODUCTS 6. Store away from children and pets 7. Wear protective gloves
Cleaning Schedule for time management and people
Daily: make bed, wash dishes, wipe counters, sweep floor
Weekly: change bed linens, laundry, clean bathroom, vacuum/dust, mop kitchen/bath
Monthly: clean refrigerator, range, kitchen shelves, vacuum furniture and drapes/blinds
Semi-annual: clean closets, wash all bedding, wash walls, clean baseboards
Saving Energy in the Home
Energy Guide: label that states the yearly average cost to operate an appliance
Energy Star Label: product is better for the environment because it LESS energy than standard models
Repair Tools for the Home
Hammer: has a curved claw, used to drive and pull nails.
Screwdrivers: used to drive and remove screws
Standard: flat head, ranges from very small to large
Phillips head: fits a slot shaped with a X or T shape. Used to assemble furniture, bookcases, cabinets, etc.
Adjustable Wrench
Used to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts Comes in many different sizes If the nut is hard to turn, apply a lubricant
such as WD40
Steel Tape Measure
Used to measure areas larger than 3 feet. Usually retractable and most have thumb locks.
Can have standard or metric measurements
Pliers: used for gripping & cutting
Slip joint pliers: Moves to fit nut and bolt
Channel lock pliers: used for plumbing problems (loosen and tighten nuts/bolts)
Long nose pliers: used for bending wires and positioning components in small areas
Excellent for floral arranging and crafts also
Side-cutting pliers: used to cut wire and to strip the insulation and coating off electrical wire
Ladders
Used to reach high places in order to reach items, do repairs or paint interiors and exterior walls. Can be small (2-3 steps) up to 16’ or more. Made of aluminum, steel, fiberglass
Installation
Pictures/mirrors: Per Danny Lipford The center of the picture should be at eye level,
approximately 60” from the floor. Leave at least a 3” to 6” gap between the top of
a sofa and the bottom of the picture frame, and 4” to 8” inches from a table top.
Find the Stud and use hardware that is compatible with the weight of the picture or mirror
