What is a Star?
What is a falling star?
Does it get hurt as it tumbles?
What about a shooting star?
What happens after it crumbles?
What happens to a star that always twinkles?
As it get older does it start to show wrinkles?
Does it gradually disappear and fade away?
Does it hibernate and come back another day?
We are starry eyed, star kissed and have a famous tuna in our midst.
Star celebrities on sidewalks in cement do exist
So we can remember those who are missed.
When the heavens cover all the stars that are twinkling,
Don’t kid yourself, they are making out winking,
Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight,
Dance in the heavens, light up and stay
For star kissed lovers to find their way.

On Wednesday morning, July 30th, 15 Diller Teens, from New Jersey, who had been
scheduled to go to Israel, came to The Lester Senior Community to brighten up our
residents’ day. It certainly was a wonderful morning, I don’t know who had the better time,
the residents or the teens!

the Desk of the Administrator………… The Lester Senior Housing Community
welcomed Rabbi Hammer to speak to us about
his very recent experiences working with the
Israel Defense Forces giving strength and moti-
vation to the young soldiers on the front lines. I
hope you will allow me to join with you in
praying for the safety of our fellow Jews in
Israel, especially these brave soldiers who find
themselves in harm’s way. We are all
acknowledging the daily peril facing
ordinary Jews in Israel and the
extraordinary service of the IDF in
protecting them. These soldiers are endangering
themselves for the sake of defending the Jewish
people and I am sure that we are all praying for
their safety and peace around the world.
The Tuv Ha’aretz Program continues to be a
success. Every Friday morning from 10AM until
1PM the Country Store sells our weekly share of
produce that we receive from our local Farmer’s
Market. The beautiful vegetables and fruits we
receive are grown and delivered by third
generation farmers. The produce is picked the
same day it is picked up. Along with the fruits
and vegetables we have beautiful flowers for
Shabbat. The Tuv Ha’aretz Weekly is also
available with cooking tips and recipes.
A few weeks ago, we were informed that Dr.
Bhagavatula (Dr. B) will be moving out of state
with her family. We wish her great luck in all
her endeavors as we welcome our new physi-
cian, Dr. Rani Gundavarapu. Dr. Gundavarapu is
Board certified in both Internal Medicine and
Geriatrics and will be available to provide care
to our residents on the same schedule as Dr.
Bhagavatula. Nurse Practioner Carol McKissock
will be working with Dr. Gundavarapu and will
provide continuity of care.
Another item of note – the parking spaces
directly across from the Assisted Living
entrance is now reserved for 2 hour/ visiting
parking only. This will make it easier for visitors
to park and enable them to bring items into the
building. There is a new luggage cart in the AL
lobby to assist with packages.
Administrator’s Corner The Activities Department headed by Cheryl Fisch, our
Community Life Coordinator, has planned many varied
activities and outings for your pleasure. As I have
said in the past, pursuing hobbies and interests with
passion, particularly social activities and engaging in
adult educational activities challenges your mind and
just makes you feel great. Join these activities and trips
and you will reap the benefits.
Please know that my door is always open and I welcome
any discussion of concerns with residents, family
members and staff.
Have a great month.

Watermelon Social
A cool invite marks hot day in July,
Mustn’t permit this date to skate by,
Residents relax on the Heller Patio,
Or escape the sun, in shady Gazebo,
Listening to performer Ron Romaine,
Tweak his guitar, then lyrics he’ll name,
Cheryl, Dyann, and Arielle serve Watermelon slices,
Fresh, sweet, and juicy, tastier than ices,
Hence my candid declaration,
I feel like I am on vacation,
Thanks Cheryl, Dyann, Mitch, Carlos and crew,
For all the splendid things that you brew!

I’m late! I’m Late! WHY?
We can recall the White Rabbit's -”I’m Late! I’m Late! For
a very important date!”
As he hastens to the MAD HATTER’S TEA PARTY.
It is easy to fall into the habit of being late to
MEALS, MEETINGS, MOVIES AND EVERYTHING
ELSE, disturbing both the speaker and the audience.
We live in a community. “Do unto others as you would
have them do unto you”
GOOD MANNERS START WITH YOU!

Naomi’s Rhyme Time
Time of Day
The time of day I find the best
is when I need to be getting dressed.
What’s the weather, hot or cold?
Will a rainstorm soon unfold?
Will I need a wrap or coat?
Or is that need just too remote?
What color would enhance my mood.
Nothing too harsh that would intrude.
Do I feel like blue or green,
Or another color in between?
Is black too somber, white too bold?
So many answers to be told.
What’s the best color for my shoes?
Do I have the right purse to choose?
What jewelry should I attach?
Do I have earrings that will match?
Should I wear bracelet or ring?
Or would a scarf be just the thing?
I feel like I’m life’s CEO,
I have to draw on all I know.
No help from others, just my decision,
Once I make it, no revision…
As the next day dawns, I’ll start then,
to be chief dress once again.

JCHC Concierges/Security Guards Provide Smiles and Security
As our residents know, JCHC takes their safety and security very seriously and our Concierge/Security staff is on the job
to help our seniors in many ways. From emergency procedures to safeguarding package deliveries, our concierge/
security guards make sure all JCHC residents receive the service they need with details that make their lives easier.
These front-desk employees do more than watch the door. In their concierge capacity, they help residents sign up for
transportation on our JCHC buses, put in repair work orders for the residents, and accept their meal delivery orders or
packages that are delivered. They answer the main switch boards, route outside calls and answer emergency calls by
residents promptly. Our activities staff also relies on them for help in setting up for evening activities.
Al Williams, who has worked at Lester Senior Housing Community for over 10 years, conveys the can-do attitude of our
concierges perfectly. “Our goal is to always provide customer service with a smile. We try to anticipate our residents’
needs before they even ask.” Indeed, they do!
As our communities’ hospitality ambassadors, they’re always at their posts with a welcoming smile and are ready to
address any questions or concerns. Need directions to one of our buildings? No problem. Looking for information about
area attractions? No sweat. Count on our concierges to share helpful information about local area restaurants or other
services.
In their jobs as a security presence, these key employees are all well-versed in our emergency plans and procedures and
are all fully trained through SORA (Security Officers Registration Act, http://www.njsora.com), which includes training in
CPR, the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) and in a variety of external and physical plant emergencies.
They provide support when police or other emergency services are called, and add a comforting presence for residents in
those situations. As Terrence Roselle, our Regional Director of Facilities always says, “Our residents’ peace of mind is
most important.”
Our concierge/security staff is on site in our building every day, all day.
Keeping our Buildings Safe and Secure
The JCHC has instituted many security protocols to keep residents and their belongings as safe as possible. All entrance
doors to our buildings are locked at all times and visitors must be buzzed in to enter. All visitors must also sign in at the
front desks so we have a record of who has been there. Security cameras keep a watchful eye on activity in public areas
and our concierges tour the buildings periodically throughout their shifts.
We are always updating our security and safety measures in our buildings. We recently installed a swipe card system at
the Lester Senior Housing Community and will be doing so in our other buildings in the coming months. This system
enables us to better track who enters our building and where, to provide even greater security for everyone.
Many thanks to Terrence for developing such a strong security program, for selecting such wonderful employees for our
Concierge/Security department, and for always making sure our residents’ safety and comfort are at the top of his list.

luggage cart for residents’ use.

Shabbat is Special at Lester
This past Shabbat, under the leadership of Rabbi Richard Kirsch, was a particularly meaningful
experience for the significant number of Lester Residents who participated. Friday night services, always
delightful, were enhanced by the inclusion of a beautiful set of opening prayers, to be read each week by
another woman congregant. Shabbat morning services, 49 in attendance, included the observance by
specific residents of eighteen Yahrzeits, acknowledged by Rabbi Kirsch with the individual recitations of
K’el Moleh Rachamim.
The delightful luncheon Kiddush, open to those who attended services, was sponsored by children Bob
and Barbara Gold, in loving memory of Evelyn Gold, a three and a half year Heller resident who passed
away in June. Unexpected guest speaker at the 2 o’clock Torah study session was Dr. Joel Kirsch,
optometrist, teacher at the university level in Israel and Rabbi Kirsch’s brother, who lives in a northern
settlement. His lecture and conversation with us were highly current and informative. In light of current
news it was a most unique and dynamic opportunity for us to add to our knowledge and understanding.
And, as always, Shabbat ended with Havdallah , the most beautiful and appropriate way in which to
conclude the week past and begin our Lester lives together in the week to come.
How extraordinarily fulfilling, lovely and meaningful it is to spend Shabbat at Lester. Join Us!
