What is Faith Formation?Decades ago it was called CCD. Then it was calledReligious Education. Now it is called Faith Formation!Because our faith is always forming, always growing andlearning from the time we are wee-little children all theway through life. Our spiritual selves need challengeand inspiration. At Padre Serra, our Adult FaithFormation Team plans and hosts a variety ofopportunities every year. For children and teens wehave weekly gatherings that meet from late Septemberthrough most of May, with lots of parent participation. These are fantastic sessions that are planned to meettheir growing need, curiosity and hunger to know, loveand serve God and each other. Register your childrenand teens now. Stop by the parish office orwww.padreserra.org go to I Want To Learn.

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ Page 3
Dear Friends,
Three weeks ago, we celebrated the Risen Jesus’ Ascension into heaven. In the gospel reading that day, Jesus tellsthe disciples (and us) “And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” So it seems to me that we canlook at the Eucharist as a way for Jesus to fulfill his desire to be with us always in the most intimate possible way, because of his infinite love for us.
And Jesus, really present, body, blood, soul and divinity, in the Eucharist, is nourishment for us, strength for thejourney, so that we can do his work, building up the kingdom, transforming the world, while being transformed intothe disciples he wants us to be. So the Eucharist helps us to meet the implicit challenge “why do you stand therelooking at the sky?” by preparing us to go and “make disciples of all … teaching them to observe all that I havecommanded.”
Thinking about this great gift makes us grateful for what we have received. This is appropriate, because themeaning of the Greek word from which Eucharist is taken is “thanksgiving.” So in celebrating the Eucharist withthe full, active, conscious participation to which the documents of the Second Vatican Council call all of us, lay andordained alike, we are giving thanks to the Lord in a way that he gave us himself. I have heard it said that atEucharist, all those who have gone before us are present, though invisible to us. Our beloved church becomes oneof the “thin places” where heaven and earth are very close. That is certainly another reason to give thanks.
It has been written that the Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life1. – of who we are and of whatwe do. In other words, it is our beginning and end; the sustenance that knits us into God’s holy people, and ourcelebration of the Eucharist is a sign of the eternal banquet of love and beauty for which we long and for which westrive. As such, it gives meaning to our lives, individually and collectively. Fr. Ron Rolheiser wrote in a recentcolumn:
The question should not be: Am I happy? Rather the questions should be: Is my life meaningful? Is there meaning in my life? Is there meaning in my marriage? Is there meaning in my family? Is there meaning in my job? Is there meaning inside my church?
Today’s solemnity reminds us that by our participation in the Eucharist, the answer to the questions he poses is apeaceful, joyful “yes, of course.” We are drawn more and more deeply over the course of our lives into the truththat we become what we receive: the Body of Christ. May God kindly and gently keep us humbly aware that wehave not yet fully “arrived”, yet grateful that we are being brought there together.Let’s also remember that the night he instituted the Eucharist, at the Last Supper, the Lord gave us an example of how we are to behave when he knelt down andwashed the feet of his disciples, then commanded them (and us) to do the same foreach other.
