Doña Ana Arts Council'sVolunteer of the Month

Larry Gioannini Larry Gioannini is our Volunteer of the Month for April. Larry was a tireless volunteer for the Load In and LoadOut for the Las Cruces Arts Fair. We have artists who,when they check in, ask for Larry by name­that is just how good he is. He is alwaysbusy, offering his assistance throughout the Convention Center. Larry came here forschool and stayed to work at Raytheon for 31 years.

Since retiring, Larry has volunteered as a campaign worker, a substitute gleaner for ElCaldito Soup Kitchen and has served on the board of directors of American ContractBridge League Unit 380. Larry is involved with environmental issues with both theBlack Range District of the Gila and La Llorona Park. Larry is a hard worker, andalways thinking of ways to improve whatever job is at hand. His volunteer time at theLas Cruces Arts Fair is very much appreciated and we look forward to seeing him nextyear!

Career Art Path, is a two week immersion program inthe visual arts for middle school students. Theprogram is designed for students entering the 5th,6th, 7th, and 8th grades and will be held on June13­24, 2016 at the Alma d'Arte Charter High School,402 W Court Ave, Las Cruces, NM. Tuition is $100per student for the two­week program; partialscholarships are available. The Arts Council andprogram founders, Marian and Jordon Wolle, donatefinancial support to any student who has an expressed

interest in the visual arts, but who is unable to pay the full tuition.

MISSOULA CHILDREN'S THEATRE JUNE 27 ­ JULY 2, 2016

The Doña Ana Arts Council is proud tocontinue its tradition of bringingMissoula Children's Theatre to LasCruces. The Missoula Children'sTheatre is now set for June 27­July 2,2016. The open auditions will be from 10:00 AM to noon on Monday, June 27at the Rio Grande Theatre. The performances will be on Friday, July 1 at 7:00PM and Saturday, July 2 at 11:00 AM. For students entering grades 1 ­ 12. Tuition is $60 per student; partial scholarships are available. The show title thisyear is The Jungle Book.

returns in an expanded version. The camp will be twoweeks running from July11 ­ 22, 2016 and will bepresented at the Rio Grande Theatre. The program isdesigned for students entering 3rd ­ 8th grade. 25­ 30 students will use elements of opera: libretto­writing, music composition, and theatrical staging tocompose and perform their own musical drama basedon the Hero's Journey. Tuition is $300 per student forthe two week camp; partial scholarships are available.Additional information and applications are availableby calling 575­523­6403.

The Doña Ana Arts Council is a non­profit organization whose mission is, through thearts, enhance the quality of life and develop the cultural, educational and economicgrowth of our community. Each year, the Arts Council offers a wide variety of programsin the visual and performing arts to thousands of area students, sponsors such regularly­attended events as the Renaissance ArtsFaire and operates the Rio Grande Theatre. Noneof this would be possible, however, without generous donations from sponsors andpeople like you.

Among the many programs offered by the Arts Council are the Missoula Children'sTheatre, a week­long theatre ex­perience open to all children ages 5­18 in thecommunity; Youth At Risk / Artists in Residency at La Casa Shelter for DomesticViolence, in which local artists conduct free weekly art workshops for children living atthe shelter; Career Art Path (CAP), in which 40 middle school children spend two weeksgetting first­hand knowledge of the arts; Kennedy Center Partners in Education, workingwith the Las Cruces Public Schools to provide professional development for teachers andincreased student access to the arts; and many more programs throughout each year.

In addition, the Arts Council sponsors such regularly­at­tended events as the Las CrucesArt Fair, the Renaissance ArtsFaire, and a variety of special events taking place in the RioGrande Theatre, including Every Other Tuesday, RGT Live! Open Mic and Film LasCruces. None of this would be possible, however, without generous donations fromsponsors and people like you. To those who have donated time, money, or goods &services, and to those who continue to give, we thank you. Your inspiration and energysustain us.
