SKIDSTEERSAFETYSUMMARYSECTIONIt is important that all operators of thismachine are familiarwith all the safety aspectsmentioned

below before operating the machine. Always keep a copy of this manual with the machine. It is theresponsibilityoftheoperatorofthemachinetofullyunderstandthissafetysection.RememberthatYOUarethekeytosafety.Goodsafetypracticesprotectnotonlyyoubutalsothepeopleworkingwithandaroundyou.Keepinmindthatthissafetysheetiswrittenforthistypeofmachineonly.Practiceallotherusualandcustomarysafeworkingprecautions;andaboveall,rememberthatsafetyisuptoyou.

I. PRE-STARTEQUIPMENTCHECK(equipmentcheckistobemadewiththeengineoff):

1. Verifythatallguardsareinplace.

2. Checkthetiresforproperinflation.

3. Inspect all hydraulic hoses and tubes for cracks,bulgesordamage. If hoseor tube isbad, replaceimmediately.

4. Keepequipmentandoperator’splatformcleanofoil,fuelspillage,andanyotherdirtordebrisbuild-up.

5. Remove obstacles such as rocks, tree limbs, etc.fromtheworkarea.Tallgrassandweedscanhideobstacles.

II. MACHINEOPERATION:

1. Always wear safety gog-gles when operating themachine. Other safetyattiresuchassafetyshoes,earprotection,gloves,hardhats, dust masks, etc.,shouldbewornasrequiredby warning decals onmachine,operator’smanu-als,jobrequirements,orlocalordinancesandinsur-ance regulations. Remove rings, watches, etc.Avoidloosefittingclothing,whichmaygetcaughtinrotatingmachinery.

2. Do not operate themachinewithoutallguardsinplace.

3. When operating on wet grass, reduced tractioncouldcausesliding.

4. Makesure thatnoone isworkingon themachine.Make sure the work area is clear of all persons,animals, etc. Keep unauthorized personnel awayfrom the machine and attachments at all times.Only responsibleadults,whoare familiarwith theinstructions,aretooperatethemachine.Neverallowchildrentooperatethemachine.

5. Never attempt to connect or disconnect auxiliarycouplerswhileoperatinganyattachments.

6. Operate up and downslopeswith theheavyendof themachine uphill. Anempty bucket makes therear the heavy end and afullbucketmakes the frontof the machine the heavyend. Most other attach-ments will make the fronttheheavyend.

7. Never operate machine inan enclosed area withoutventing the exhaust of theunit. Deadly carbonmon-oxide fumes can accumu-late.

8. Keepallmovementonslopesslowandgradual.Donotmakesuddenchangesinspeedordirection.

9. Avoid turning on slopes. If you must turn, turnslowlyandkeeptheheavyenduphill.

10. Slowdownwhenturning.Sharpturnsonanyterrainmaycauselossofcontrol.

11. Neveroperatethisoranymachinerywhenfatigued,tired,undertheinfluenceofalcohol,illegaldrugsormedication.Youmustbeingoodphysicalconditionandmentally alert to operate thismachine.Alwaysbeawareofobstructions,whichmaycauseinjurytotheoperatorordamagethemachine.

12. Nevermodify themachine.Neverremoveanypartofthemachine(exceptforserviceandthenreinstallbeforeoperating).

13. Use only FINN approved attachments. Otherattachments can change stability of machine andmayvoidwarranty.

14. When leaving the equipment unattended for anyreason,besureto:

A. Lowerloaderarms.

B. Shutoffengine.

C. Takekeyswithyou.

D. Ifonasteepgrade,blockthewheels.

Theseactionsarerecommendedtoavoidunauthor-izeduse,runaway,vandalism,theftandunexpectedoperationwhentheequipmentisrestarted.

15. Donotsmoke,read,eatorotherwiseloseorlessenyour attention in any manner while operating theSkidSteer.Operatingisafulltimejob.

16. Do not carry arm in theraised position. Alwayscarry loads close to theground.Donotstepoffoftheoperatingplatformwiththeloadraised.

17. Check carefully for overhead clearances beforedrivingunderthem.Nevercontactanyobstruction.

18. Stayclearofallelectricalconductorlines.

19. Donot try tostabilizethemachinewithyourhandsorfeet.

20. Donotexceedaslopeof15degrees.Avoidstartingorstoppingonslopes.

21. Never carry passengers on equipment or attach-ments.This is not a toy and should not be usedfor recreation. Do NOT fool around: operate in asmoothcontrolledfashion.

22. Do not exceed the rated operating capacity, asmachinemaybecomeunstablewhichmayresult inlossofcontrol.

23. Operateonlyindaylightorsufficientartificiallight.

24. Use extra care when loading or unloading themachine onto a trailer or truck.The unit should belifted from the lift eye located on the top centerframemember.Whentransportingthemachineonatruckor trailer alwaysproperly secureusingstrapsorchains inareas thatwillnotdamageequipment.Chain tie-down rings are provided on each side ofmachine.

25. Donotoperateneardrop-offs,ditches,orembank-ments.The machine could suddenly turn over if awheel goes over the edge of a cliff or ditch, or ifanedgecavesin.

III. MAINTENANCE:

1. Before servicing themachine, turn off engineandallowallmovingpartsto stop. Disconnect thebattery cables to preventaccidental starting of themachine. Tag the engineoperatingareatoshowthatthemachine is being ser-viced. Use lockout/tagout procedure (29 CFR1910.147).

2. Battery maintenance. Lead-acid batteries containsulfuric acid which may damage eyes or skin oncontact.Alwayswearafaceshieldtoavoidacidinthe eyes. If acid contacts eyes, flush immediatelywith clean water and get medical attention. Wearrubber gloves and protective clothing to keep acidoffskin.Lead-acidbatteriesproduceflammableandexplosive gasses. Keep arcs, sparks, flames, andlightedtobaccoaway.

3. Filling of fuel. Never fill the fuel tank with theengine running, orwhile smokingorwhennearanopen flame. Never smoke while handling fuel orworkingonthefuelsystem.Thefumesinanemptycontainerareexplosive.Never cut orweldon fuellines,tanks,orcontainers.Wipeoffanyspilledfuelandletdrybeforestartingengine.

NOTE:Becarefulnottoallowfuel,lubricant,hydrau-licfluid,orcoolingfluidstopenetrateintothegroundorbedischarged into thewatersystem.Collectallusedfluidsanddisposeofthemproperly.

4. It is recommended that only authorized genuineFINNreplacementpartsbeusedonthismachine.

5. Fuelorhydraulicfluidunderpressurecanpenetratetheskin or eyes and causeinjury, blindness or death.To check for such leaks,use a piece of cardboardor wood instead of yourhand.Pressuremaybuildup in thehydraulicsystemso use caution whenremovingthecap.

6. Perform all maintenance with the loader arms intheloweredposition.Ifanymaintenancerequiresthe arms raised, secure the cylinder with lockingdevice.

7. Somepartsandassembliesarequiteheavy.Beforeattemptingtounfastenanyheavypartorassembly,arrangetosupportitbymeansofahoist,byblockingor by use of an adequate arrangement to preventit from falling, tipping, swinging or moving in anymanner which may damage it or injure someone.Allowallcomponentsonmachineorattachmentstocoolbeforeattemptingtomaintain,adjustorservice,orbeforestoring.

8. Stop and inspect the equipment if you strike anobject.Repairifnecessary.

9. Ifrepairsrequireuseofatorchorelectricwelder,besure that all flammable and combustible materialsareremoved.Fueloroilreservoirsmustbeemptied,steam cleaned and filled with clean water beforeany cutting or welding on them is attempted. DoNOTweldorcutonanytankcontainingoil,gasolineor their fumes or other flammablematerial, or anycontainerwhose contents or previous contents areunknown.

TheEagleSkidSteer244Disacompacthydraulicallydriven power unit. It is intended to be used with avarietyofattachments.Thismanualisintendedtopro-vide step-by-step instructions on the operation, care,and maintenance of the Eagle 244D. IMPORTANT: Onlyuseclean,fresh2-Ddieselfueloil.Ifoperatingatambienttemperaturebelow40°F (4°C)oratanaltitudeexceeding5000feet(1525m)useNumber1-Dfueloil.

NOTE: Thisengine isnotequippedwithasparkarrestormuffler.Useoroperationof thismachine in theStateofCaliforniaonanyforest-covered or unimproved grass-covered land, without an approvedsparkarrestermuffler, is a violationof the law.Other statesmayhavesimilarlaws.

STARTINGPROCEDURE:

CAUTION: Seesafetysectionofthemanual(pages2-4)beforeoperatingthemachine.

1. Standontheoperator’splatform.

2. Makesurethattheauxiliaryattachmentleversareoff(centerdetentposition).

3. Setthrottleabout1/4open.

4. Turnkeycounterclockwiseandholduntiltheglowplugindicatorstartsglowingred.

5. Turnkeyclockwiseuntilthestartercatchesandenginefires.Keyswitchwillautomaticallymovetotherunposition.

NOTE: This engine has a safety system which will shut the engine offif the oil pressure decreases below an acceptable level or if theenginetemperatureistoohigh.

OPERATION:

Thinksafetyfirst!PleasecarefullyreadtheSkidSteersafetysummarysectiononpages2-4andallsup-pliedsafetyinformationonallattachmentsbeforeattemptingtooperatethemachine.Closelyfollowingtheseinstructionswillhelpyouandanybystandersavoidbodilyinjury,aswellaspreventdamagetothemachine.

CONTROLS:

NOTE: It is very important to become familiar with all the controls inFigure1beforeyoustarttheengineandoperatethemachine.

WARNING: Alwayskeepbothhandsonthegriphandlesandbothfeetontheoperator’splatformwheneveroperatingthemachine.

WARNING: Always use a smooth motion whenever moving any controllever. Never jerk any of the control levers; this will resultin themachine jerking,whichcould throw theoperator fromthemachine.

IMPORTANT: For an individual’s initial introduction to themachine, a level andopenareafreeofhazardsshouldbechosentolearnandpracticesafe operation. Do not attempt to do work with the unit untilyou are proficient in its operation.When first learning to use themachineonlyrunthethrottleuptoabout2400-2600rpm.Thiswilllimittheamountofhydraulicfluidtothewheelmotorsallowingforslower and smoother operation. As the operator becomes moreproficient the throttle can be increased formaximumpotential ofthemachine.

NOTE: The left and right-side of the machine is determined as theoperatorstandsontheplatformfacingforward.

PROPEL:

Togoforward,slowlypushthepropelleversforward.Todrivestraightequalpressureonboththerightandleftleverisrequired.Togostraightforwardpushbothrightandleftleversthesameamountforward;thefarthertheleversarepushedforwardthefasterthemachinewillpropel.Togostraightreversesimplypulltheleversbacktowardsyou.Alwaysuseaslowandgradualmotionwheneveroperatingthemachine.Bothoftheseleversarespringcenteredtoreturntoneutralwhentheleverisreleased.

Themachineissteeredbymovingoneofthedriveleversfurtherforwardthantheother.Foragradualturn,totheleftforexample,movetherightdriveleverfartheraheadoftheleftlever.Themachinealsohasthecapabilitytodoatrue“pivotsteer”,whichallowsthemachinetopivotonitsownradius.Toaccomplishthispushoneofthedriveleversforwardandpulltheotherdriveleveranequalamountbackwards.Thefarthertheleversarepushed/pulledthefasterthispivotturningwilltakeplace.

Tosloworstopthemachine,movethepropelleverstowardsthecenterdetentpositiontoslowandallowtoreturntocenterpositiontostopmachine

LIFTARM:

To raise the lift arm simply pull the lift arm lever back towards you. To lower the lift arm, pushthe same lever forward away from you. This lever is spring centered to return to neutral when theleverisreleased.

UNIVERSALFACEPLATECONTROL:

Totilttheuniversalfaceplateandanyconnectedattachmentforwardpushtheuniversalfaceplatecontrolleverforwardawayfromyou.Tocurltheplateandattachmentpulltheleverbacktowardsyou.Thisleverisspringcenteredtoreturntoneutralwhentheleverisreleased.

AUXILIARYHYDRAULICSCONTROL:

Thisunitisequippedwithtwoauxiliarycontrols.Oneisusedforattachmentsthathaveahydraulicmotorcontrollingthemandtheotheroneisusedforattachmentsthatarecontrolledwithahydrauliccylinder.

Theauxiliarycontrolleverthatisontherightsideofthemachine(whenfacingforward)istheoneusedtocontrolattachmentswithahydraulicmotor.Thisleverisfrictiondetentedinbothdirectionssoastocontroltheamountofoilthatactuallygoestotheattachment.Onedirectionwillturnthemotorforwardandonewillturnthemotorinreverse.Thisleverisnotspringcenteredsoitisnecessarytomanuallymoveitbacktothecenterdetentpositionwhichwillturnthehydraulicmotorthatitiscontrollingoff.

NOTE: Theenginewill not start unless this lever is in the center detentposition.

Theauxiliarycontrolleverontheleftsideofthemachineisusedtocontrolattachmentswithahydrauliccylinder.Thisleverisspringcenteredtoreturntoneutralwhentheleverisreleased.Pushingtheleveronedirectionwillextendthecylinderwhilepullingtheleverintheoppositedirectionwillretractthecylinder.

LEAVINGTHEMACHINEUNATTENDED:

Whenever leaving the machine unattended, even if it is only for a few minutes, it is important that themainliftingarmsarereturnedtothegroundascloseaspossible,dependingonwhichattachmentisonthemachine.Turntheignitionkeytothe“OFF”positiontostoptheengine.Besuretoremovethekeyfromtheignitionswitchandtakeitwithyousothatanyunauthorizedpersonnelcannotstartthemachine.

ATTACHMENTS:

Theuniversalfaceplateisdesignedtoallowquickinterchangewithavarietyofattachments.Theattach-mentsareheldontothemachinebytwospring-loadedlockingpins.Thesepinssimplyrotate180degreestolockandunlockanyattachment.Thefollowingstepsaretheproperwaytoinstallanyattachment.

IMPORTANT: Use only Finn authorized attachments. Other attachments maychangethestabilityandoperatingcharacteristicsoftheunit.Themachine warranty may be voided if unauthorized attachmentsareused.

CONNECTINGATTACHMENTS:

1. Insurethatthelockingpinsareintheunlockedposition(pinsfacinginwards).

2. Starttheengine.

3. Slowlytilttheuniversalloadplateforward.

4. Move the machine forward so that the universal faceplate lines up with the adapter plate on theattachment.

5. Oncetheuniversalfaceplateisinsidetheadapterplateontheattachmentcurltheuniversalfaceplateallthewaybackandraisetheloaderarmsslightly.Theattachmentshouldrollbackontotheuni-versalfaceplate.

6. Turntheignitionkeytothe“OFF”positiontostoptheengine.Carefullystepoffplatformtoengagetheattachmentlockpins.

7. Rotatethelockingpinstothelockedposition(pinsfacingoutwards).Makesurethatthelockingpinsarefullyengagedbyobservingthelockingpinsstickingthroughthebottomoftheadapterplateontheattachment.

Iftheattachmentthatisbeingconnectedishydraulicallydrivenproceedwiththefollowingsteps.Ifitisnottheenginemaybestartedandtheunitoperated.

12.Givethehosesatugtoconfirmthattheyareproperlyconnecttothequickdisconnects.

13.Starttheengineandbeginoperationofthemachine.

DISCONNECTINGATTACHMENTS:

1. Lowertheattachmentontothegroundorontoatrailer.

2. Turntheignition“OFF”tostoptheengine.

3. Movetheauxiliarycontrolleverbackandforthtorelieveanypressureintheauxiliaryattachmentlines.

4. Removetheattachmenthosesfromthemachineandcouplethehosestogethertopreventcontamina-tiontothehydraulicsduringstorage.

5. Installtheprotectivecoversontotheauxiliaryattachmentquickdisconnectstopreventdirtfromcontaminatingthehydraulicsystem.

6. Rotatethelockingpinstotheunlockposition(pinsfacinginwards).

7. Starttheengine.

8. Tilttheuniversalfaceplateforward,andbackthemachineawayfromtheattachment.

HYDRAULICSYSTEM:

ThehydraulicsystemontheFinnEagle244Disdesignedtogivetroublefreeservice,ifproperlymain-tained.Themostimportantareasofmaintenancearethehydraulicfluidandfiltration.Thehydraulicreser-voirholds14.5gallonsofMobilDTE-13Mhydraulicfluid.Thereservoirisfilledbyremovingthefillcapandaddinghydraulicfluiduntilitgoesabovetheaddlineonthedipstickthatispartofthefillcap.Donotover fill thehydraulic reservoir. The reservoirwasdesignedwithextra room toallow thehydraulicfluidtoexpandasthetemperatureofthefluidincreases.Itisimportantnottosubstituteautomotiveoilasseverehydraulicdamagemayresulttothehydraulicsystem.Thehydraulicfluidshouldbereplacedperthelubricationschedule,iftheoilbecomesmilky,orifitgivesoffaburntodor.Thehydraulicoilfiltermustbereplacedonschedulewitha10micronfilter–Finnpartnumber#021618.Whenreplacingthehydraulicoilfilterbesuretolubricatetherubbergasketonthereplacementfilter.Thehydraulicsystemreliefisfactorysetat3000psi.

USINGCYLINDERLOCK:

WARNING: Normal maintenance should be done with the lift arms low-ered. If any maintenance or repairs have to be done thatrequiretheliftarmstobeintheraisedposition,thecylinderlockmustbeused.

Installingthecylinderlock:

1. Starttheengineandremoveanyattachment,whichmaybeontheunit.

2. Raisetheliftarmtothefullyraisedposition.

3. Turntheignitionkeyofftostoptheengine.

4. Removethecylinderlockandthetwosnapperpinsfromtherightfender.

5. Positionthecylinderlockaroundtheexposedrodoftherighthandsidecylinderandinstallthetwosnapperpinsthroughtheprovidedholes.

6. Starttheengine.

7. Slowlylowerthearmsuntiltheclevisonthecylindercomesincontactwiththecylinderlock.Thisshouldsandwichthecylinderlockbetweenthecylinderclevisandthecylinderbody.

8. Turntheignitionkeyofftostoptheengine.

Removingthecylinderlock:

1. Starttheengine.

2. Raisetheliftarmstothefullyraisedposition.

3. Turntheignitionkeyofftostoptheengine.

4. Removethecylinderlockandtwosnapperpinsfromthecylinderandreplaceontotheholesprovidedontherightfender.

5. Starttheengineandlowertheliftarmstotheground.

6. Turntheignitionkeytotheoffpositiontostoptheengine.

CLEANINGANDMAINTENANCE

CAUTION: Cleaningandmaintenanceisdonewiththeengineoffandallrotatingpartsstopped.

AFTERFIRST4-8HOURSOFOPERATION:

1. Retorquethewheellugnuts(100ft-lbs.(14kg-m)).

DAILY:

1. Removeanyloosedirtfromthemachine.Besurethatthehydraulicoilcooler,theradiator,andtheengineoilcoolerfinsarefreefromdirtthatwillcausethehydraulicsystemandengineitselftorunexcessivelyhot.

WARRANTYFinnwarrants to theoriginalPurchaser foruse (or rental toothers foruse)allnewconstructionmachineryandattachments therefore manufactured by Finn to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of12 months from date of purchase or 1200 hours of use, whichever comes first. Replacement parts provided underthetermsofthiswarrantyarewarrantedfortheremainderofthewarrantyperiodapplicabletotheproductinwhichinstalled, as if such parts were original components of that product.
