    SurveillanceDescription:

A focuss assessment was carried out for the welding of 1 inch drain valves to 2 and 3 inchpiping at different areas 10, 12, 67 of Riyadh Refinery and PID noticed that the distancebetween drain valves and fixed obstruction was less than 610mm which violates therequirements of SAES-L-310 states that branch connections, 4 inch and smaller, includingdrain and vent valves and drip legs of all sizes, shall be located at a minimum horizontaldistance of 610 mm 24 i nches from any fixed obstruction. The contractor shall conduct afocuss assessment for these piping from Area H to tank R935-V15 and R935-V16 andcomply Aramco Standards.

6/6/2015 2:56:36 PM Inspector in-charge Mr. Immanuel will conduct the focus assessment and then the result will be shared with our engineering for justification. Please acknowledge ACD upto June 20, 2015. Thanks.

Focussed assessment was carried out and found 4 cases where the distance of drain f rom fixed obstruction was less than 610 mm. Stressanalysis of these four sections of piping revealed that the displacement is very less compared to the available clearance in all four cases asper drawings. This clearance is acceptable per SAES-L-310 paragraph 12.5 exceptions b) When the results of the piping stress analysis

including the surge f orces show that the branch clearance with obstruction is acceptable

Based on the stress analysis data for above mentioned four cases the available clearance vs maximum displacements are, [AREA 61] 200mm vs 5 mm, [AREA 64] 370 mm vs 20 mm, [AREA 10] 350 mm vs 45 mm, [AREA 12] 165 mm vs 60 mm (in this case displacement is 60mm away from the fixed support). Above values are acceptable per SAES-L-310 paragraph 12.5 exceptions b) When the results of the pipingstress analysis including the surge forces show that the branch clearance with obstruction is acceptable

Closing Comments: Based on the stress analysis the physical distance from the fixed obstruction is acceptable.
