4.Formanyyears,GigasetDECThandsetshaveenabledtheautomaticadjustmentoftransmission power–dependingonthedistancetothebasestation.Forexample,transmissionpoweris reducedbyapproximately60%atadistanceofuptofivemetres.

2.TheECODECTfunctioncomplementsthisadjustment:thetransmissionpowerofthehandsetand basestationinidlemodeareautomaticallyreducedtozeroifthehandsetisinthebasestation andonlyonehandsethasbeenregistered.

3.Ifcustomersselect“ECOMode”,theycanalsomanuallyreducethetransmissionpowerofthebase stationandhandsetby80%.Inradiation-free“ECOModePlus”thetransmissionpowercanbereduced byupto100%whenthehandsetisidleorchargingandwhenallhandsetssupportECOModePlus.

Also,thehandset’spowerconsumptioncanbecutby9%,therebyincreasingtalktimeby10%.However,thisreducestherangetoabouthalfthedistance.

Effects of automation ThehighdegreeofautomationinGigasetCommunications’productionprocesseshasalimitedimpactontheenvironmentthroughenergysavingandefficientmachineutilisation.Forexample,theelectroniccircuitboardofthesedevicesisproducedsolelyonaproductionlinewithacycletimeofunder6secondsandanefficiencygreaterthan75%.

Processcontrolsandshortfeedbackpathsfortestingthereforeminimisematerialwaste(componentsandprocessaids).Rejectsarecontinuouslymonitoredwiththegoalofachievingarateoflessthan1%.

Refuse disposal Packagingmaterialandelectronicscraparestrictlyseparatedin“environmentalislands”atGigasetCommunications’productionfacilitiesandrecycledbylocalserviceproviders.Toreducevolume,theindividualmaterialsarecompactedbyrollerpresses.Thecompactionratioforcardboardboxesis,forexample,6:1.Thisenablesmoreefficienttransportationofaround800tonsofcardboardperyear.

Eachuserisgivenafour-digitIDthat,alongwiththeRESYsymbol,mustbeprintedclearlyandvisiblyonpaperandcardboardtransportpackaging.

AllsecondarypackaginghastheRESYsymbolonittoindicatethatthespecificationsofthePackagingOrdinancefortransportpackaginghavebeenmet.

10 Distribution

Whengoodsareshippedtothecustomer,theyareconsolidatedatcentralhubsofbestinclasslogisticprovidersandthendistributedinhighlyefficientlogisticsnetworks.

TheGigasetLogisticsNetwork(GLogN)isthebasisfortheefficientandsecuremovementofgoods.ThecoreofthistransportnetworkisapoolofhighlyqualifiedserviceproviderswhoofferthebestpricesandperformancethankstothepoolingofGigaset-wideneeds.

Theuseoftransportationresourcesisbeingoptimisedbycontinuingimprovementsinthesizeofproductpackaging.Thepackagingunitsofoursuppliersareoptimisedaheadofprocurementtoensurethemeansoftransportisfullyloaded(e.g.containersinthecaseofseafreight).

Inoverseaslogisticschains,wetrytoensurethatmarinetransportisusedasfrequentlyaspossible.Transportationofgoodsbyrailorinlandwaterwayispreferredovertrucksbecauseitreducesemissionsby50%.Airfreightfortransportinggoodsinternationallyistheexceptionandoutofprincipleshipmentbyseahaspriority.

11 Disposal

Our takeback conceptInaccordancewithEuropeandirectivesonthedisposalofelectricalwasteandelectronicequipment(2002/96/EC),packaging(94/62/EC)andbatteries(2006/66/EC),thesewastematerialsmaynotbethrownawayasdomesticrefuse.Therelevantnationalstatutoryregulationsmustbeobservedandthewastemustbedisposedofviatheapprovedchannels.

In case of faultIfadeviceshouldeverprovefaulty,itisnotreplacedbyanewonebutrepairedandreturnedfreeofdefectstothecustomer.Thisconcepthassignificantadvantages.Whendevicesarereplacedbypreviouslyrepairedproducts,thelawrequiresthatcosmeticparts,suchascradles,receiverinsetsormicrophones,arealsoreplaced.Ourserviceconcepteliminatesthis,whichsavesmaterialsandresources.
