From My Heart School is back into swing this month. With that we hear about stores putting school supplies front and center, groups helping to supply needy students, and of course, warnings about school zones and watching out for the yellow buses loading and unloading. In a few weeks, it will be high school football time in Tennessee. For Christians, school starting provides many opportunities. Especially in middle school, high school, and college, there are Christian support and fellowship groups that students can attend. It is a great help for Christians from various local churches coming together to be strengthened and to strengthen one another. If there is such an evangelical Christian group in your school, I want to encourage your participation. School starting back gives us opportunity to be ministers of the love of God. We often think of the physical needs we can meet, but I want to challenge our students and their parents to be aware of students and families that have no or little support group. There are always students, for whatever reason, who are marginalized and need friends. I would encourage you to bring them into your group. Parents and students alike can tastefully share their faith with other parents and classmates. The greatest need of any one person is to come to faith in Jesus and then live that faith out on a consistent basis. Students, in addition to being a verbal witness, invite new- to-our community students and long-time unchurched residents to your church on Sundays and Wednesdays, as well as special events. Parents, as you find out about the spiritual needs of other parents give them an invitation to your church. As students and teachers return to the schools, please know your pastor has prayed for you and stands ready to be of help to you. I would love to hear your stories and provide you with resources to be “salt” and “light” to your school. Thank you for sharing Chris & Abi with us at All Nations Camp. They were such a blessing to all!

Dave Shelley Dear Silver Springs family,

Words cannot express our appreciation for all the get well cards, flowers, food, and most of all, the many prayers that went up for me during my surgery and recovery time. The food was wonderful and so helpful to our family. We are so blessed to have such a loving and caring church family. Thanks again. In Christian love, Tessa, David, Luke Grace, & Eli Toomey Dear Church,

Thank you for your incredible, faithful, & sacrificial giving to Great Commission work through your Cooperative Program. Thank you for participating in a unified effort to financially support almost 5,000 International Mission Board missionaries; the work of the North American Mission Board; equipping almost 10,000 students in our six seminaries; as well as other national ministries of the SBC. Thank you for being part of a network of over 2,500 Tennessee Baptist churches supporting work in our own state: Union & Carson Newman Universities; The King’s Academy; Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes; Tennessee Baptist Adult Homes; Tennessee Baptist Foundation; & the strong missions & ministry work of the TBC Executive Board. Through our BCM campus ministries, 275,000 Tennessee university students are being targeted with the gospel. Our TBC Disaster Relief ministry is one of the strongest in the nation. And each week, TBC churches are being revitalized, strengthened, & several new ones planted, supported by your CP giving.

It is a joy to be with you on this journey!

In Him,

Randy C. Davis President/Executive Directory-Treasurer

Dear Pastor Russ:

It was a great blessing to me to be a part of the worship service at your church on Sunday morning! The gracious reception on the part of Chris Gregg, Youth Pastor John Shouse, and your folks was genuinely felt and deeply appreciated.

Your people’s love for the Word of God is noteworthy. The offering that was given was in the amount of $375. These funds will be used in their entirety to help provide Scriptures for distribution to students and prisoners in Brunei, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, and other countries around the world.

Thank you again, Brother Russ, for the hospitality that your folks extended. May the Lord continue to minister to you and your dear people!

Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Woody Vardell Regional Field Officer Pacific Rim Countries

New Women’s Bible Study Gideon: Your Weakness, God's Strength

Beginning August 7 New Bible Study on the life of Gideon is a seven session women's Bible study by Priscilla Shirer. Like everything else in the Bible, this is a story about God and His people. His love for them, as well as His strength operating in spite of their weakness, even through their weakness. And because God's people includes you and me, Gideon's story is also about us our lives, our doubts, our struggles, and our possibilities as believers. Instead of ignoring, neglecting, or trying to escape your weaknesses, see them as the gifts that they are, given specifically and strategically by God to unlock the door of God's strength.

Request from a Missionary Jennifer Beadle, sister to Mt. Juliet resident, Kristen Morris, has asked us to pray for her. Upon graduation from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Jennifer has been appointed by the International Mission Board to work among Muslim people in an impoverished village in North Africa.

While building relationships and trying to talk one-on-one to people about Jesus, Jennifer will work on a goat farm.

On several occasions, when in Mt. Juliet, Jennifer has worshiped with us. She grew up on a farm in Norene and her home church is Fall Creek Baptist Church.

14For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. 15The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: 16“This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” 17Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more” (Hebrews 10:14-17)

Short and sweet. Is it time to forgive and remember no more? Is it time to realize that the guilt from your past can be let go as you are being made holy? As the journey to be like Jesus stretches on, continue to find a way to give to others, involve yourself in the ministries at SSBC, and reach the lost. Don’t let your past control you, but let God control your present and future.

Come join us for Fuel Worship Service

(students 7th-12th grade) on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.

It’s time to use your talents for the Lord! As God has encouraged and inspired you, encourage and inspire Silver Springs Baptist Church and the community by lifting your voice to the Lord!

Are you being called?

With eight joining we have five to go!

About the Training Events: This conference features a Basic and Advanced Conference for All Sunday School Leaders: Pastors/Ministers of Education/Sunday School Directors, Adult, Youth, Children, and Preschool Leaders.

*Basic Conference Basic Conferences are designed for teachers & leaders who have taught or worked with an age group less than three years or are attending their first training event. This is also an excellent choice for teachers and leaders who need a refresher course in the fundamentals of a particular age group in Sunday School.

**Advanced Conference Advanced conferences are designed for teachers & leaders who have taught or worked with an age group three or more years and have attended previous training events. If you can’t make Gordonsville, other conferences are close by that you can attend:

August 19: First Baptist Church, Joelton August 20: Thompson Station Baptist Church, Thompson Station

A Word for the Women Save these dates:

August 16 and 17 - An overnight mini retreat at the Barnett's farm.

We will be praying through the night! That's right, through the night! It's a "Daniel Retreat."

September 28 - Our annual Fall Family Fest from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00

p.m. Be thinking about what game or "booth" you would like to oversee. I will be asking really soon.

November 14 thru 16 - Women's Leadership Forum at LifeWay.

Five of us have participated in this for the last 3 or 4 years and always walk away feeling spiritually renewed and closer to each other. It is a time of keynote speakers, praise music, and breakout sessions of different topics. If you are interested in attending with us this year, email me at [email protected] or call me at 779-6511.

December 2 thru 7 - Week of Prayer for International Missions

And yes, our 2014 Spring Retreat at Linden Valley has been

scheduled for April 11 thru 13. Andrea Lennon of True Vine Ministries will be our leader and our theme will be "Free to Thrive." Cost is $100 per person and it is not too early to start saving or even paying for that. Once you attend one of our retreats, you will want to keep going. Just ask Jennifer Stephens and Abi Gregg! We know how to have a good time while being renewed and learning to be more like Jesus!
