WHAT IS MISFIRE PHENOMENON?
Misfire is an undesired loss of flam which is triggering form different causes:
• Ignition problems: Defective ignition coil (hardware); dirty or old spark plug
• Injection problems: Defective Injector (hardware); Fuel pump failures; Shortcircuit in wiring harness
• Mechanical Problems: Loss of compression, valve terminals, poor carburation, extremely rich or lean mixture
Some side effects of misfires:
• Overheating / destruction of the catalyst
• Increase of Emissions (mostly HC)

FUNCTION PRINCIPLE
Morgan Le Cossec | 9th AVL Calibration Symposium | 04 11월 2015 | 6Public
An external function inside the ECU is activated via Calibration in order to generate the misfire patterns. The time between each event is necessary to cold down the catalyst. This measurement procedure has to be performed for all the operative points.
TEST PRINCIPLE
1ST Phase:
Stabilization the operative point (load and engine speed)
2nd Phase:
Generation Single Misfire event on each cylinder consecutively
3rd Phase:
Generation Continuous Misfire on one cylinder
4th Phase:
Generation paired cylinder misfire
(Cylinder 1&3 and Cylinder 2&0)
5th Phase: Generation opposite cylinder misfire
(Cylinder 0&1 and Cylinder 2&3)
