PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
THE 2017 SCHOOL FETE
On behalf of the school community, l would like to congratulate
and thank the Family, Friends and Fundraising Team; the Fete
Conveners, staff, students and other volunteers who gave so
willingly of their time to organise and contribute to this year’s
fete. I would also like to express our appreciation to Michael
Wilkinson and Rene Buckett for their superb organizational
skills!
We were so lucky that the weather cleared during the
afternoon. ensuring that the fete was once again an
outstanding success. I would also like to thank the broader
Patterson Lakes Community for their support. A number of
organisations will be acknowledged over the next few weeks
for their contribution.
In the past, the fundraising money has been used for the
re-surfacing of the basketball courts, replacement of the
basketball backboards and rings, the development of a new
basketball/netball area for the Junior School, the construction
of a new sandpit and the replacement of three shade sails in
our adventure playgrounds. Last year it allowed us to put
air-conditioning in the hall, which may come in welcome
next week during the presentations of your school concert!
This year’s money raised is being used for the new hall blinds,
sound system and portable staging.

CLASS FORMATIONS FOR 2018
Paul Clohesy and I are always happy for parents to place in
writing, requests for class placements 2018. However, we will
always trust the teacher’s professional judgement, as they
spend 6 hours each day with the students in their class and
have an insight into the dynamics of the classes in the school.
They spend a considerable number of hours in ensuring the
correct placement of every child in the school. Any requests
made by parents will be considered but cannot be guaranteed.
CITY OF KINGSTON TRAVEL SURVEY FOR PLPS - WALK
TO SCHOOL DAY
On Tuesday we had a very successful WALK TO SCHOOL
DAY. Just a reminder to families that the travel survey will
close on Tuesday 31st October 2017.
Last term we held a community information session with
Kingston Council. We had an open and helpful discussion
about road safety, personal concerns such as stranger danger
and then looked at our local map to highlight traffic concerns
for the Council to work on. Our next step is for parents to
provide feedback via the Council’s 5 minute travel survey
online. We need input from families to help create a safe travel
route map for the school. A 5 minute travel survey on road
safety to help us better understand how we are currently
travelling to and from school. We can then plan to improve
options for student travel. This will be a great opportunity for all
parents to have an input into our safe travel plan. There are
only 6 questions and it will take you less than 5 minutes.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
FIRST AID NEWS
HAY FEVER SEASON IS UPON US
This year’s season is already upon us and is expected to be
a severe one and many students at PLPS are starting to
suffer the symptoms of hay fever.
Hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis, is common in spring
because it is often caused by an allergy to grass pollen.
Hay fever can occur at any time of the year as an allergic
reaction to dust mites, mould and animal fur or hair.
Symptoms include a running nose, sneezing and itchy,
watering eyes. Medication including antihistamines can help
symptoms. Allergen immunotherapy may be a suitable
treatment for some people.
For those children who suffer re-occurring hay fever, now
might be a good time to look into administering a 24 hour
antihistamine, giving some relief to these students on high
pollen days.
