Many of the gallery’s treasures once decorated the region’s gracious homesteads. Open Mon – Fri 10am to 5pm, Sat 10am to 12pm & 2pm to 5pm, Sun 2pm – 5pm. HAMILTON HISTORY CENTRE (Map Ref F4) Located at Gray Street, the centre is situated in a dignified and formal structure designed by architect William Smith. The museum displays an extensive and fascinating array of local history. Genealogy and history resource materials form the basis of the collection including information on historic buildings, residences in Hamilton, pastoral properties, shops, businesses, people, german history, transport through the ages as well as local church, school, cemetery and war records. Over 2000 local historical photographs are also kept on site in addition to a small historical museum and a lace collection. Open every day from 2pm until 5pm, except Saturday and the first Wednesday of each month when the centre is open from 7:00pm-9:00pm for research purposes only. HAMILTON PASTORAL MUSEUM (Map Ref J4) Reflecting the region’s pastoral heritage the museum contains early farm machinery, horse drawn vehicles, steam and oil engines and other relics from the past. Rally days are run featuring the old machinery in action. Contact the Hamilton Visitor Information Centre for opening times. THE BIG WOOL BALES (Map Ref C2) Visitors can enjoy a hands on experience of the wool industry including a shearing demonstration by arrangement and a range of local woollen products from which to choose. Opening hours are 9:30am - 4:00pm Eastern Standard Time, 9:30am - 5:00pm during daylight savings and at other times by appointment. HAMILTON INDOOR LEISURE AND AQUATIC CENTRE (HILAC) (Map Ref E2) The state of the art centre is a sporting hub for the region in any season. Facilities include an eight lane heated indoor 25 metre pool, fully equipped gymnasium, four basketball courts, multi use table tennis arena, squash and racquetball, meeting space, crèche and café. SOUTHERN GRAMPIANS The Southern Grampians is ideally located between Melbourne and Adelaide, and is well serviced by major highways, a regular, daily air service to and from Melbourne and daily coach services. With a landscape dominated by the spectacular Grampians mountain range, ancient volcanoes, tranquil rivers & waterfalls and undulating pastoral land dotted with majestic red gums, the Southern Grampians spans the heart of Victoria’s renowned ‘Western District’. HAMILTON Hamilton, both the geographic and business hub of the region, has been the centre of a large and wealthy pastoral industry for over 160 years and has grown to become a thriving country city. Exhibiting style and quality, with excellent shopping, diverse architecture, an outstanding art gallery and stunning botanic gardens, this gracious city offers a first class visitor experience. LAKE HAMILTON (MAP REF H2) An attractive landscaped manmade lake used for swimming, sailing, yachting, rowing and featuring an excellent walking/bike track of 4.5 km. SIR REGINALD ANSETT TRANSPORT MUSEUM (Map Ref H4) Once home to Sir Reginald Ansett, Hamilton became the birthplace of Ansett Airlines. The museum tells the story of the Ansett Empire with displays of aviation memorabilia and early documents. The museum is open 7 days a week from 10am - 4pm HISTORIC WALKS Significant historic buildings feature in the many self guided walks available throughout Hamilton. Hamilton art Gallery (Map Ref F4)One of the finest provincial galleries in Australia, it is renowned for its outstanding historic and contemporary collections of fine and decorative arts. Many of the gallery’s treasures once decorated the region’s gracious homesteads. Open Mon – Fri 10am to 5pm, Sat 10am to 12pm & 2pm to 5pm, Sun 2pm – 5pm.

Hamilton History Centre (Map Ref F4)

Located at Gray Street, the centre is situated in a dignified and formal structure designed by architect William Smith. The museum displays an extensive and fascinating array of local history.

Genealogy and history resource materials form the basis of the collection including information on historic buildings, residences in Hamilton, pastoral properties, shops, businesses, people, german history, transport through the ages as well as local church, school, cemetery and war records.

Over 2000 local historical photographs are also kept on site in addition to a small historical museum and a lace collection.

Open every day from 2pm until 5pm, except Saturday and the first Wednesday of each month when the centre is open from 7:00pm-9:00pm for research purposes only.

Hamilton Pastoral museum (Map Ref J4)

Reflecting the region’s pastoral heritage the museum contains early farm machinery, horse drawn vehicles, steam and oil engines and other relics from the past. Rally days are run featuring the old machinery in action. Contact the Hamilton Visitor Information Centre for opening times.

tHe BiG Wool Bales (Map Ref C2)

Visitors can enjoy a hands on experience of the wool industry including a shearing demonstration by arrangement and a range of local woollen products from which to choose. Opening hours are 9:30am - 4:00pm Eastern Standard Time, 9:30am - 5:00pm during daylight savings and at other times by appointment.

Hamilton indoor leisure and aquatiC Centre (HilaC) (Map Ref E2)

The state of the art centre is a sporting hub for the region in any season. Facilities include an eight lane heated indoor 25 metre pool, fully equipped gymnasium, four basketball courts, multi use table tennis arena, squash and racquetball, meeting space, crèche and café. An attractive landscaped manmade lake used for swimming, sailing, yachting, rowing and featuring an excellent walking/bike track of 4.5 km.

sir reGinald ansett transPort museum (Map Ref H4)

Once home to Sir Reginald Ansett, Hamilton became the birthplace of Ansett Airlines. The museum tells the story of the Ansett Empire with displays of aviation memorabilia and early documents. The museum is open 7 days a week from 10am - 4pm

Hamilton BotaniCal Gardens (Map Ref F5)

One of Victoria’s most outstanding regional civic gardens, the Hamilton Botanic Gardens are rightly recognised as an important part of Victoria’s heritage. Designed in 1881 by Melbourne Botanic Gardens curator, William Guilfoyle, the Gardens are open every day and are a source of interest and pleasure to Hamilton residents and visitors alike.
