Any member of the United Nations may

accede to the UPU.

Sovereign countries which are not members

of the UN may also become members of the

UPU provided that their request is approved

by at least two-thirds of the member

countries of the Union.

With the re-admission of South Africa in

1994, the UPU reached its present number

of 189 member countries.
