S AVE W ATER & S AVE E NERGY Saving energy and water does more than help the environment, but also helps you save on your utility bills. In each issue we'll offer three simple tips to help you save:

Turn off all lights, appliances and electronics you're not using; an efficient way to do this is to have them plugged into a power strip so you can turn them off all at once!

Switch to low-flow shower heads and faucets to reduce your water use.

Combine errands and trips as much as possible; walk or bike as much as possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to keep you fit!

I bet the above grouping of letters looks like I put my fingers on the wrong keys, or worse, that I forgot how to spell. In fact, it is neither. I have written a cipher to send a message to all the moms in Bernalillo.

Ciphers have been around for a long, long time. They have been used to carry messages to kings, queens, presidents, generals, and more. Of course, most ciphers that carry critical information about politics or battle plans and are very complicated. Mine is not.

Ciphers come in many, MANY sizes and shapes. Hint: mine is just a matter of shifting letters left or right. If you cannot figure it out, look at the bottom of the article for help.

Did you know there is a new room at the library? We call it The “Zone”. It is a place where kids, ages 6 and up*, can spend time “zoning” out and having fun playing board games, computer games, using the Lego wall or Marble Trac board, STEM items, or doing an arts and craft project of their choosing.

*Keep in mind that 6 - 9 year olds must be accompanied by an adult or older sibling.

The “Zone” is open after school, 3:00 until closing, and on Saturdays 9:00 until closing. Summer hours for The “Zone” will start in June.

Summer Hours - the library is now open until 7:30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. All other hours are the same.

Summer Events and the Summer Reading Program both start on June 3rd. We have LOTS of great programs planned. Check out the marquee, Library website, or stop by the library for a calendar of events.

Answer to Cipher: Each letter is 2 letters to the right of the correct one. See if you can figure it out now. Go head. Grab a piece of paper and give it a try.

If you still need help, drop by or call the library for the answer.
