Factors that affect Biomes

Abiotic factors determine what plants and animals will live there. They include: Temperature Light Intensity Amount and patterns of rainfall

Terrestrial biomes of the world include:

Tundra Boreal Forest (Taiga or Coniferous

Forest)* Deciduous Forest* Grasslands* Tropical Rainforest Deserts*

* = biomes of the continental U.S.

Aquatic biomes of the world include:

MINNESOTA!!!

Page 6: A biome is an extensive area of similar climate and vegetation.

Why 3 Biomes in MN?

1. Amount of rainfall Plants need water to photosynthesize

2. Number of days without killing frost (growing season) Plants need a certain temp for enzymes to

work for photosynthesis
