“ A book is a gift you can open again and again”……and we at Sanskriti Junior School, could not agree more with this apt quote by Garrison Keillor, while we enthusiastically participated in the Literary Days from 24 th to 25 th of April 2017. Right from our tiny toddlers in Nursery to our grown up grade 5, was a part of the enjoyable Literary Days here at Sanskriti. Each section of Grade Prep created their own story book, using different textures and a variety of colours. ‘Character Parade’ was organized where students came creatively dressed up as rabbits, lions, monkeys, parrots, crows etc. using recycled material. The teachers enacted a story ‘Sharing Is Caring’. Children enjoyed watching their teachers’ performance. The class one were seen totally engrossed in a story telling session followed by making stick puppets related to the story narrated to them. They enjoyed making book covers based on their favorite story books. It was a pleasurable sight to enter the doors of the class 2 classrooms which were decorated with illustrative thoughts on “where will your reading take you”. Each section of class 2 also presented an assembly on books enacting short stories, reciting poems and singing on songs related to books. English book cover making and Hindi poem recitation competition coupled with an interesting quiz on books kept the class 3 children completely busy with the Literary Days activities. The children of class 4 put their heart and soul in making book covers based on their favourite English story books and played dumb-charades on names of books and characters. The senior most class of the junior school presented enactments based on their supplementary reader “Idgah”. They drew comic strips and painted beautiful book covers based on Hindi folktales. All the classes enjoyed a visit to the Scholastic Book Fair which was a melodious cacophony during the break time. Many children bought books to add to their personal libraries and every child went back home with a resolve to read more and more.
