MARANATHA CHOIR GKBJ SAMANHUDI

GKBJ Samanhudi Youth Choir was founded in 1980s known as the Maranatha choir. Jonathan Margono was the forefather of this youth choir. Then, the lead-ership was carried on by Jimmy Setiawan until 2000. Then, there was a regeneration of leadership in Ma-ranatha choir as Jimmy had intended to pursue his further study in theology in US.

Rinno Widjaja, then the assistant to Jimmy, took the responsibility until mid-2003. However, since Rinno took a further study in hotel field in Bandung, the GKBJ Samanhudi was led by Endang Djuana un-til end of 2007, while Jimmy was taking his further study.

The GKBJ Samanhudi Youth Choir once changed its format into a band, and produced some self-ar-ranged songs in accordance with the needs of each member and its youth commission. However, due to lack of coordination, the band stopped performing for some time. In March 2008, Rinno returned to Jakarta and took the responsibility to re-establish this youth choir.

Finally, a number of teenagers with interests in sing-ing joined. The new generation of Maranatha choir was established from ordinary people, yet having a hobby of singing. They have a regular practice on Saturdays at 6 pm.

SMA KATOLIK BUNDA HATI KUDUS CHOIR SMA Katolik Bunda Hati Kudus Choir is better known as “Sancfortius Choir”. The name “Sancfortius” origi-nates from the word “Sanctus”, meaning “holy”, and Fortus, meaning “strong”. Thus, it means a strong and holy choir of SMA Katolik Bunda Hati Kudus (high school). Sancfortius Choir was founded in 2006 under the guidance of Mr. T. Albert Tanoso until July 2008.

The choir is aimed at developing talents God has al-ready given, which are later used to serve God and fellow people. Currently, Sancfortius Choir is under the guidance of Mr. Dominikus Widi and for this con-cert, Mr. Paulus Wangga is assisting him in terms of choral trainings of vocal and songs. This Bunda Hati Kudus Choir itself was actually es-tablished in 1971 as a curricular activity. However, the choir members changed very often due to the ongo-ing regeneration. Before Sancfortius was founded, there had been a school choir under the guidance of Mr. Paulus Wangga and Miss Lisa. Currently, SMA BHK choir will still keep the name of Sancfortius. The Sancfortius choir, comprising of SMA Katolik BHK students, regularly has practices on Saturdays at 10 a.m.

At its young age, Sancfortius has scored several achievements, including 4th Winner in Chevalier Cup, a choral concert of Indonesian Independence at Ciputra Mall, a concert “Glorious Joy of Christmas” on Dec. 15, 2007, the fund-raising of which was do-nated for charity.
