Kansas Accreditation is…

•Q + P = A

A Change in Approach/Mindset

• A broader view of a School’s Quality

•Much more takes place in School

• Personalized Focus: Allowing Choice

• Focus on Intangibles

Current System: Quality

1 A school improvement plan2 An external assistance team3 Local assessment aligned with state

standards4 Teachers trained in state standards and

assessments5 In assessed areas, all teachers must be

certified6 Board policies meet 91-31-347 Local graduation requirements meet the state

requirements

Current System: Quality

8 Curricula that meet the regent’s admission requirements

9 Elementary and middle schools that offer computer literacy, counseling services, fine arts, etc…

10 Secondary schools that offer business, FACS, etc…

11 Policies ensuring compliance with other accreditation regulations and laws

Current System: Performance

•% at standard or above in reading and math• 95% take the state assessments•Attendance rates at or above 90%•Graduation rates at or above the

• The focus will be on a transition to 21st century standards and College and Career Ready Standards.

• Accreditation will be at the district level.• Accreditation and Non-Accreditation and perhaps

some other distinctions like • Accredited through growth• Accredited with distinction

8

Process

• QPA Advisory Council Work

• Rubrics for each R are being finalized.

• Field test will take place this school year.

• Pilot will take place next school year.

• Pilot schools will help determine how the system will function.

The Heavy Lifting

• Determining how the Five R’s will Work Together – Equal Values?

• Determining Points/Values for Each Area of the Rubric: Relationships, Rigor, Responsive Culture, Relevance, and Results

• Different Levels of Accreditation?• Procedure for Validation• Frequency of the Process?
