Ministry That Doesn’t Take The Summer Off
For Galilee, as with many congregations, the summer brings with it a different kind of ministry character than during the rest of the year. Our Sunday School classes don’t meet during the summer, and neither do our choir and handbell ringers rehearse. But our weekly Text Study Group continues, as do our Men’s and Women’s Bible Studies, and our Spiritual Formation Groups. In addition to this are the weeks of camp that Galilean youth have participated in at Lutherdale Bible Camp, and our Middle School and High School youth and adults have given of themselves traveling to St. Louis and St. Paul to care for others in need. You see, ministry for Christ really doesn’t take the summer off.
As we now turn into the last month of summer, many families will be seizing upon the last chance to vacation together before the school year begins at the end of August. These are important times, too. It is important not to neglect to nurture our relationships as family. Often times going somewhere away from home gives us the opportunity to focus ourselves a little more on each other, and share an enriching experience together.
My hope and prayer for you is that this month will find you spiritually equipped for doing what you need to do this month. An important reminder for that was present last month in the story of Jesus, Martha, and Mary (Luke 10:38-42). There we affirmed that there are certainly things that each of us needs to do. Nevertheless, and at the same time, it is important not to miss the opportunities of receiving all that the Lord wants to do for us. Remember, because His ministry never takes the summer off, make yourself present before Him. August is still a time filled with the gracious and loving touch of Christ.

Deacon Doug is Ending His Call to Galilee In July, the Leadership Board reluctantly received Deacon Doug Krekling’s letter of resignation from Call to Galilee Lutheran Church. Enclosed, please see his letter posted in this newsletter. As you will read, Deacon Doug is not sure what he will be doing next, but he is confident in the Spirit leading him forward. We are saddened, yet thankful for the loving service that Deacon Doug has provided Galilee for these last three and a half years. On the weekend of August 18 we will be expressing our appreciation to both Deacon Doug and his wife, Lisa, for their caring leadership. Details for that will be shared with you as those come together. If you are not able to be present that day, please take advantage of these upcoming days to express your appreciation and God’s care to both Deacon Doug and Lisa. Please read his resignation letter on page 3.
Deacon Doug and the youth and adults who have been in mission in the St. Paul area shared their experiences with us on July 20-21. We were blessed by their service on our behalf, and by the life experiences that they shared - experiences accompanied by Christ and empowered by the Spirit. Galilee participants pictured above (left to right) are Sara Schroeder, Austin Slominski, Matthew Strosin, Vaughn Strosin, Savannah Evans, Sarah Stippich, Heather Evans, and Deacon Doug Krekling.

2019 LOWER LEVEL RENOVATION PROJECT UPDATE
Lower Level Renovation Project Update – from the Financial Planning Team Have you noticed the posters and displays that have been constantly changing in the narthex? Have you read the updates in the bulletins and on the website? Have you been following the exciting progress of the fundraising appeal? We want to remind you we have an immediate goal of raising $100,000 by the August 5
th start
date of the project. We are thrilled to report that as of 7/15/19 we had received $54,145 or 54% of that goal. Some members have told us that their stock transfer, qualified charitable distribution, pledge or cash donation is on the way or in process, so we expect this number to keep growing. Please remember to complete the donor form and turn that into the office so that when the funds are received you can be given the proper credit. A donation to the general project is great, but maybe you’d prefer to sponsor an item – like a cabinet, sink, toilet, fire extinguisher, etc. Please see the list that was included in your letter or check out the poster in the narthex. If you choose to sponsor an item, please note that on your donor form. We thank those that have responded to the financial appeal! And we ask those that have not to please prayerfully consider how you might contribute to this welcomed project of renovation and renewal. If you did not receive an appeal letter or if you have misplaced it, please see the displays in the narthex for donor forms and other information. For questions related to the project or donation process, please contact the Leadership Board members, Pastor Jay or the Church Office. Thank you for your faith and support for God’s ministry in this appeal.

everyone who helped to make this faith
formation for life experience possible.

People of God at Galilee, ¡Saludos a nuestros queridos amigos y companeros en el evangelio! Greetings to our dear friends and partners in the gospel! It is with tremendous gratitude that we thank you for your generous gift of $1100.00 towards the 2019 Mission of Healing trip to our partner congregations in El Salvador. We give thanks to God for our many travelers—including doctors, nurses, therapists, dieticians, pastors, and lay members—and to you, who funded our supplies and other expenses and prayed for us, who helped make this trip happen! Thanks to you, our partners in this work, for helping make all of this possible! Rev. Josh Evans, Pastor Unity Lutheran Church, Brookfield on behalf of the Mission of Healing Leadership
Galilee Book Cub will be discussing “Virgil Wander” by Leif Enger, Thursday, August 22. Meet Virgil Wander, owner of an old movie theatre. He leads a somewhat normal life until one night when he hits an icy patch on the road, and lands in the icy waters of Lake Superior. He survives the crash, but suffers short term memory loss and some of this words. As he tries to get his life back on track, he has a group of quirky friends to help. Join us at 4 pm in the Gathering Place for a fun discussion. - Sharon Vitek

Galilee Worship Service Flower Guidelines
If you would like to include flowers to enhance the church service, to celebrate a special occasion, or to remember or honor a loved one….here are some suggestions:
Decide the date. Sign up for your choice on the flower chart in the Narthex.. or .. go online to Ministry Scheduler Pro to note your decision.
Make contact with a florist for the flower arrangement you would like and schedule to have it delivered to Galilee on Saturday afternoon around 4:00-4:15pm… or.. you can bring the flowers to Galilee yourself on Saturday. Flowers should be left on a table in the Narthex. Later they will be placed in the sanctuary.
You may pick the flowers up after the last service of the weekend. Thank you for your participation.
