A new name —“pgC” — and our transformation into a complete basketball university. After 17 years, Point Guard College is changing its name to “PGC.” But we’ve changed much more than our name. The expanded PGC curriculum teaches more than just point guard play. It provides dedicated players of all positions (and coaches too) with a complete education on how to play smart, tough, intelligent basketball.

what stays the same?At PGC, we continue to believe that there is a richness in the sport experience, and that our mission is to empower you to experience this richness, including:

• Thesenseofaccomplishmentthatcomesfromthemasteryofadiscipline;• Thespecialbondthatiscreatedbyateamthatstrivestogethertowardsacommongoal;• Thesatisfactionthatcomesfromthepursuitofexcellence;• Thesenseoftriumphthatarisesoutofovercomingadversity;• Theintensityofcompetition—thethrill,thejoy,andeventhedisappointment.

These are the things that those of us who teach and work at PGC love about the game. It is this type of basketball experience that has shaped our lives and our careers. As a result, wearepassionatelycommittedtoprovidingyou—andotherplayersandcoaches—witheverything you need to achieve your dreams.

We want you to be prepared with the tools that you need to win championships, to earn honors and scholarships, and to play at the next level (if that’s what you desire). But we also want you to experience the joy of the journey, and the opportunity that you have to uplift the environments that you’re in.

Thisisthereasonwhywe’vechangedournameandourcourseofferings—tobetterserveyou. This is the reason for our transformation into what can now be called a “basketball university”(completewitha“universitydegree”—you’llreadmoreaboutthisinside!)

This is what inspires us and is at the heart of who we are. This is the legacy that we receivedfromourfounder,DickDeVenzio—thelegacythatweareproudtocontinue.

COACHEsDuring the past three summers, more than 500 coacheshave attended PGC courses. Each PGC session servesas a high-level coaching clinic where you can expand yourknowledge and improve your ability to transform your players.

sHOUlD EVErY plAYEr AttEnD pgC? Actually—NO. Our degree program and even our individual courses are not for every player, so please don’t rush to sign up. Our courses are only a good fit for dedicated players and coaches who are serious about getting better and making the most out of their basketball experience. To benefit from our programs, you have to be willing to get up early, put in long, hard days, and spend a lot time exploring the outer limitsof your comfort zone. Many players aren’t willing to take that approach, and since we have only a limited number of spots available in each of our courses, we prefer to accept players that will take full advantage of their time with us.

“I have been fortunate to play the game of basketball as acollegiate, Olympic and professional player. As a new coachat the high school level, I was looking for a great developmentopportunity for my players. After hearing rave reviews aboutPGC from coaches around the country, I decided to checkPGC out for myself. I was hooked within the first 20 minutes. The lessons on leadership, confidence and doing the little things are a must for any player, regardless of what position they play.”— Coach Jeff Turner, OrlAndO, FlOrIdA,1984 OlymPIC GOld medAlIsT (UsA) And 10-yeAr nBA veTerAn.

“Any player who wants to have a serious chance to playcollege basketball, especially at the ‘d1’ level, needs to attend PGC. Going to PGC is the smartest move you can ever make,as you’ll learn all of the little things that make college recruiterssit up and take notice. As a two-time PGC athlete, I learned how to succeed against bigger, more athletic defenders and how towin at the highest level.”— Kristi Toliver, WnBA 3rd OverAll PICk (2009 drAFT),UnIversITy OF mArylAnd, 2009 1sT TeAm All-AmerICAn,2005 nCAA ChAmPIOns.

HigH sCHOOl & JUniOr HigH AtHlEtEsAll PGC courses, with the exception of The Prep School, are open to dedicated male and female high school and college players, as well as mature incoming high school freshmen. “PGC opened my eyes to many new aspects of the game.I just played in my first game since I got back home, and I couldn’t believe how much more I could do on the court. In this one game alone, I ‘gnawed’ the ball out twice, ‘skirmished,’ ‘gushed,’ ‘slapped up,’ used ‘break-out dribbles,’ ‘what’s up fakes,’ ‘sweep-overs,’ ‘momentum stops’ and direction changes, and encouraged my teammates by giving them reminders. every time I penetrated,I was under control. you taught me a lot and I appreciate all that you’ve done!” — Ross Spain, FrIsCO, TexAs.

“I learned so many things that will take my game to the next level—for example, the ‘C-rip,’ the ‘Twist Pass,’ the ‘30-day Challenge’, and what good coaches like and dislike. The thingsthat I learned at PGC were things that no other program has taught me. I loved the classroom sessions and I now have a totally different approach to the game. Thanks for all that you taught me—both on and off the court.”— Bobby Casey, sCrAnTOn, PennsylvAnIA.

“not only did my physical skills improve, but I learned valuable lessons on how to study, examine and think the game that I had never been exposed to before. The teaching I received helpedme to become a better teammate and leader—both on andoff the court.” — Justin Conway, FOrmer PrInCeTOn UnIversITy TeAm CAPTAIn.

“We’ve had three of our players go through your programs. The floor general on our state Championship team wasa graduate of Think The Game, and what he learned hada tremendous influence on our team. Without the time thathe spent at PGC, I’m not sure not sure that we would havehoisted that state championship trophy at the end of our season.” — Coach Josh Kendrick, BrOWnsBUrG, IndIAnA (2008 sTATe ChAmPIOns).

gEt tHE mOst OUt OF YOUr trAining. Do you ever feel like you practice and practice and justdon’t get results? Or, even worse, that your coach can’t see the results? Do you ever wonder why you don’t have more confidence on the basketball court?

PGC will teach you how to use those hours in the gym to make significant improvements that produce noticeable results. We’ll show you how to train smarter and harder so that your efforts pay off and teach you how to ‘chunk’ your training to improve faster. You will also be introduced to key principles aroundyour preparation, recovery, hydration, and nutrition, whichwill reduce potential injuries and maximize the impactof your training. COmmUniCAtE EFFiCiEntlY.Coaches always tell their players to communicate on the court, but what do they actually mean? Most players don’t know the answer and resort to useless ‘chatter.’ At PGC,you’ll learn how to use ‘meaningful talk’ when you step onthe court and how to use communication to help your team-mates play better. The more you can share timely and relevant information with you teammates, the better your team will be. It’s that simple. At PGC, we’ll teach you exactly what to sayand exactly how to say it.

lEAD YOUr tEAm EFFECtiVElY.It takes a great deal of energy, intelligence, and knowledge to run the show successfully on a basketball court. Great leaders have to sell their vision, inspire teammates, urge perseverance, and get their teammates to work together. At PGC, we teach leadership principles and create a ‘leadership laboratory’ where players can put those principles into practice.

DEVElOp tHE DnA OF A CHAmpiOn.PGC serves as a training ground for players who want to learn how to be champions. At each of our courses, you’ll learn how to inject the six essential ingredients of championship perfor-mance into every minute of every practice and every game.

make teams. get more playing time. win championships.

Have you ever been cut from a team that you really wantedto make? Or sat on the bench wishing that you could be one of the players on the court during crunch time? How many times have you lost a close game to a team that you didn’t think was better than yours? How many games have you lost when a referee’s call against your team seemed to be the deciding factor in the game?

At PGC, we’ll teach you the basketball skills and the mental attitude that you need to make teams and get more playing time. You’ll also find out what really wins games and what really loses them. Learn how to get ‘luck’ on your side: Find out how referees think, what they penalize and reward, and how you can make the refs a non-factor in your games.

“My son has been a different kid since the session. his personal growth has been remarkable. now he thinks, talks and acts likea leader. he is so much more confident and is not afraid to fail. last night was his first game of the season. he started and played 34 minutes, the most he has ever played with his team. he played with passion, fire, and energy. honestly, I can’t believe it’s my son. “I have to tell you about my daughter, kate. she saw very little playing time as a freshman. We knew that something had to change, so she enrolled in PGC. I could talk forever about the changes that occurred, but let me just say it like this: By her first game as a sophomore she had taken over the starting position from an upperclassman, and her school went on to compile their best record ever. The following year we made it to the state playoffs for the first time. This past year, kate’s senior year, we wentto the state championship. now her wall is lined with all-league, all-tournament and MVP trophies. she was recruited by several schools, and will be playing university basketball in California.my daughter came back from PGC with renewed confidenceand a ‘can do’ attitude, and I think that was largely responsiblefor her team’s success. In all sincerity, thank you for what you’ve done for kate.” — John Anderson, nATICk, mAssAChUseTTs.

COnqUEr DisCOUrAgEmEnt AnDmAintAin YOUr lOVE FOr tHE gAmE. What if you could transform your perspective towards setbacks, losing, injuries, being benched, unfair treatment, and all the other things that can rob you of your love for the game?

Players frequently catch a glimpse of the richness in basketball, but then situations, circumstances and other people steal the joy that they feel for the game. Many players get so discour-aged by mediocrity, frustration and disappointment thatthey leave the game or simply settle for a less-than-satisfying experience in their basketball careers. This doesn’t have to happen to you.

Our goal at PGC is to empower you to experience a rewardingand fulfilling basketball career. Our summer courses and year-round programs will equip you to protect your love for the game through the ups-and-downs of your season, as wellas throughout your basketball career.

“Our daughter had a basketball game the night she got home—and boy was there a difference. Her coach was totally amazed. her dad and I sat up in the stands and were shocked at the girlwe were watching out on the court. That was the BesT we had ever seen her play. The techniques and pointers you taught her during those four days worked a miracle.”— Carey & Becky Jobe, FOrT WOrTh, TexAs.

“Our daughter, susan, attended one of your courses this past summer. she didn’t want to share any information with us untilwe both were giving her our undivided attention, so we all sat down while she got out her notebook and began to tell us about what she had learned about the kind of player and person she wantsto become. she began to talk and then got choked up. you helped her to rediscover her passion for the game that she loves so much. she found the hop in her step again because of you. her approach to life, school, and basketball has all been altered in a positive way. There are no words to express our thanks.”— Jill & Bryan Bossler, reAdInG, PennsylvAnIA.

“We have twin boys who attended PGC last summer. The night before they went back to school, the family was having dinner and we asked the boys about the highlight of their summer. keegan very quickly answered, “PGC,” and Cole’s response was, “the talks that we heard at PGC”. I am not sure what the talks were about, nor do I ever need to know, but they sure had a huge impact on our sons. After PGC, they found the love of the game that seemed to have been lost, and that passion has spilled over into other aspects of their lives. It seems so very inadequate to say, but, thank you.” — France Bonner-Parker, CAlGAry, AlBerTA.

wHAt sEts pgC ApArt?You won’t find a complete system for teaching the game in north Americathat is as thorough as pgC.There are coaches who teach their teams some aspects of what we teach, but it’s hard for them to find the time to teach it as comprehensively, creatively, or thoughtfully as we do at PGC. The demands of a competitive schedule and the challenges posed by limited practice time make it difficult for even the best coaches to teach all the “little things” that they wouldlove for their players to know.

HOw wE tEACH—HEAr it, sEE it, DO it.At each PGC course, we use a multi-dimensional approach in order to maximize your learning and take advantage of your personal learning style. We call it our “Hear it, See it, Do it” approach, which includes:

1 ClAssrOOm lEArning sEssiOnsYou will need a notebook and pen to take full advantage of our courses. Two-to-three times a day you will attend classroom sessions where you will be introduced to principles, habits, and a way of thinking about the game that will prepare you to play smart basketball.

2 ViDEO AnAlYsisYou will study actual game footage to see examples – both good and bad – of every aspect of play. These in-depth study sessions will help you to understand the “whys” behind what we teach.

3 COUrt timEFor six-to-seven hours each day, you will participate ina series of unique gym sessions where the concepts taughtintheclassroomarereinforcedthroughcreative—andoftenunusual—activities, challengesandcompetitivegames.

From sun-up to sundown, they personally teach every classroom, video, and court session. You won’t be just a number at our courses. Your director will take the time to get to know youby name.

“Our entire university women’s team attended a PGC session last may and it was the BEST teaching program that I’ve ever seen! The concepts you teach are not being taught anywhere else in north America! The on-court sessions are intense and so are the classroom sessions. you strive to create great players, but also great people. your courses are for the serious, dedicated player who truly wants to become a difference-maker.” — Shawnee Harley, heAd COACh, UnIversITy OF CAlGAry WOmen’s BAskeTBAll TeAm.

“All of the gym sessions were game-like and served a definitepurpose. It’s awesome how the points of emphasis were reinforced. each and every player improved. I’ve been to approximately50 basketball camps, and you truly have the BesT teachingprogram in America.” — Coach Laura Sellers, nOrmAl, IllInOIs.

“Outstanding! The best clinic experience I have witnessed in36 years of coaching! The combination of the on-court training and classroom sessions was really unique. I will leave here with plenty of new ideas on how to teach different aspects of thegame. I will definitely be encouraging players and coachesalike to experience PGC.” — Coach Len Stanley, BIsmArCk sTATe COlleGe.

“I have worked with some great teachers of the game of basketball; however, this week at PGC, I observed the best teacher that I’ve ever seen. your lectures were powerful, purposeful and efficient. Throughout all 11 classroom sessions, you not only didn’t takea breath, but I never once wished that you would. not a session went by where I wasn’t thrilled with the content and delivery.I can’t tell you how impressed I am with the program!”— Dave Jankowski, lAPAlmA, CAlIFOrnIA.

“The classroom sessions changed my game more than anything else. I particularly loved the ‘Unruffleability’ and the ‘extra-Ounce’ lectures. Once I learned how to be in the right state-of-mind,I was able to perform at my best.”— Michael Lutter, COlUmBUs, OhIO.

“The video segments that PGC uses to support each and every one of their teaching points are probably the most beneficial aspect of the week. These clips not only hold the attention ofthe students, but reinforce the validity of each teaching point.”— Coach Christian Papp, hAmmOnd, IndIAnA.

“The gym sessions were always intense and purposeful. We knew why we were doing each activity and we were pushed to do our best. The atmosphere in the gym was amazing. There was a great sense of camaraderie. I learned so much this week and I am so grateful.” — Jessica Knox, hArvArd UnIversITy.

“The difference that PGC can make is in the area of transfor-mation. There are plenty of places where you can learn skills, but I was surprised by how quickly PGC could change players’ basketball habits, and more importantly, their attitudes, their composure, and their approach to the game.
